I turn around and see my mom and Matt holding hands. Mom smiling excitedly and Matt looking really nervous, like he was just called into the principal's office.

'What's going on?" I say as I head over to sit beside mom.

Still smiling, she reaches into her bag, brings out a very flashy diamond ring and slips it into her finger. 'We're getting married!" She exclaims showing me her finger and giggling.

I just sit there starting at her, mouth wide. Completely stunned.

'We couldn't wait to tell you, that's why we drove up here to break the news." She goes on like she doesn't notice my reaction.  Still stunned.

'Honey I think you should close your mouth now, something might fly in". She says laughing.

I turn my stare over to Matt who definitely finds it very uncomfortable. As he should. He should be very uncomfortable at this point.

'I love your mother so much, she's like a ray of sunlight. She brings so much joy into my life, and I don't want to have to wait for a very long time to make her my wife. It's not like we're young kids anymore. I feel like the luckiest man on earth that she said yes". He says smiling at my mom.

'Oh baby, that's so sweet, I love you so much" Mom says blushing and smiling.

'Oh, cut the crap!" I snap at them

They both turn and look  at me stunned.

'You love her so much so you asked her to freaking marry you after barely two months of seeing each other because you lack the patience to wait?".

'Melanie! My mom shouts at me clearly surprised

'Don't Melanie me! What is wrong with you? How can you accept to marry someone you barely know? Is that how desperate you are?" I shout at her harshly. Her eyes widen and her lips start to quiver but I'm to angry to care.

'Melanie, I know you're upset but please don't speak to your mother that way. It's rude, unfair and she's your mother so she deserves respect from you even when you're angry".

'Who are you to tell me what to do or not to do? I would highly appreciate it if you do not get involved in my personal issues with my mom". I spit at him.

'Melanie Jones that's enough. Will you stop acting like a child this instant. I will not sit here and have you disrespect me or Matt. What is wrong with you? You have never spoken to me like you did just now. She says as she starts crying and Matt reaches to soothe her.

Ok, now I feel like a royal ass. She came to share her good news with me. A dumb good news I must add, and I shit on her parade and made her cry. That was selfish and insensitive.

'I'm so sorry mom. I really didn't mean to hurt you. I just… this is too much to take in. You come in here telling me you're getting married to someone you just started dating. Someone I've just only met. How else did you think I'd react? I say gently, trying not to make her more upset.

'We didn't just start dating, I've known Matt for about four months and we started dating two months ago. And even if we just started dating last week or yesterday, I'm a grown up for Christ sake. Your Mom! I can make my own decisions. I just need my daughter to be happy for me and support me.

I let out a long sigh. 'You're right, you're a grown woman and you have the right to make your own decisions. If this makes you genuinely happy, then I support you, even though you've made a series of bad decisions. Let's just hope he isn't one of them". I say looking at Matt.

'Thank you Melanie. I promise not to let your mother or you down". Matt says with right hand over his heart. Maybe he isn't so bad.

'I'm sorry for my crazy reaction and being rude to you, the news was a bit huge. Plus I haven't had coffee this morning so I'm a bit cranky". I say smiling apologetically.

'A bit?" He asks laughing.

'Okay a lot". I say also laughing

I turn around and see my mom smiling at us and then she mouths the words 'Thank you" to me.

'Congratulations mom" I say as I walk over to her giving her a big hug. 'I'm so happy for you and I love you so much".

'I love you too baby".

'Now let's see that stunning diamond piece". I say excitedly reaching for her finger.

'Isn't it so beautiful?" She sighs

'It's absolutely stunning mom". And I wasn't just saying it. The ring was really beautiful, with an oval shaped diamond piece that wasn't too large or too small sitting on top of it. It just fit perfectly on her slender finger.

'One day, we'll both be standing like this again. Staring at a beautiful ring on your own finger. Whoever gives you that ring will definitely be the luckiest person on earth because you're my personal lucky charm".

'Oh Mom". I say with teary eyes

'I always hoped it would be Jordan". She says hugging me so tight.

'Me too Mom". I say in my heart. 'Me too".
