Chapter24: Confronting Darkness

Maya

A deathly silence hung between us. The twins stared at me, their gaze unwavering, refusing to utter a single word. Yet, strangely, I didn't cower in the face of their silence. No, their silence… it fueled an inferno within.

For the first time in my life, I didn't feel an ounce of fear towards them. Instead, I was consumed by rage, hurt, and an overwhelming sense of fury. I couldn't stand the sight of their faces; they disgusted me.

"Disgusting..." I seethed, unable to contain the torrent of emotions that streamed down my cheeks in the form of tears, "Fucking disgusting! You both hate your Dad for his actions, yet you're no fucking different! Monsters, even worse than that! How could you do this to me?!"

Maximus's jaw clenched while Leonardo crushed his cigarette in his hand. I didn't understand their restraint, nor did I care to. It simply didn't matter.

When neither of them responded, I seized Maximus by the collar, pulling him close without fear of his hardened stare. I locked eyes with him, "Why? What have I ever done to either of you? Just tell me, why?!" My voice trembled as I yelled, unable to control the agony coursing through every fiber of my being. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't rein in my emotions. It felt impossible, and the lingering pull of his scent made me want to retch.

Maximus diverted his gaze, fixating on something else, and a flicker of rage marred his features. "What happened to your face?" His hand inched toward the corner of my mouth, and an involuntary hiss escaped my throat as I recoiled.

He had to be kidding me.

"Do not fucking touch me!" I swatted his hand away, "I don't want your filthy hands near me. You sicken me, you fucked up monster!"

"Stop crossing the line and answer the damn question, Maya!" Leonardo grabbed my hand and pulled me closer. My body collided with his, and a gasp escaped my lips at the sudden contact. But as I looked at him, the disgust resurfaced. Everything about the twins repulsed me, each glance triggering the scenes I had witnessed earlier.

God. How shamelessly they engaged with another woman, even after marking me….

They were fucking heartless and cruel.

"Cross the line? Was there ever a line to begin with?!" I shoved him away, simmering with rage, "After what you two did, is there even a goddamn line left? Do you even comprehend the weight of your fucking actions? My mother was the one who wrecked your family, Max and Leo. Not me! If you have the guts, then fucking deal with her, not me. But you're both cowards! You're taking out all your pent-up anger and frustration on me just because she'd report it to your father and you'd lose your 'Alpha' status in this damn pack. What fucked-up revenge is this, huh? Do you think your mother, watching from above, is clapping for your performance? Do you honestly fucking believe she's proud of you two?!"

"How many times have we warned you not to talk about our mother, huh?" Leonardo grabbed a fistful of my hair, pulling me closer. His body pressed against mine, his lips dangerously close to mine, and his breath on my skin. All I could smell was his intoxicating scent, and underneath, I felt his rage.

But I was too out of my own control to give a fuck about it.

"I don't give a fuck about what you ask me, Leonardo Sterling," I managed a bitter chuckle, tears welling up in my eyes. Despite the tears, every cell in my body burned with rage. "So don't bother asking me... anymore. Because I'm just telling you the truth."

"You're asking for a death wish, Maya," Maximus's voice hissed from behind me. His hand snaked around my neck, fingers tightening their grip. He brought his lips close to my ear, his threat chilling my spine. "Do you really want to see the worst of us? Because if you do..." His other hand rested on my hip, claws extending menacingly, ready to tear into my skin at any moment, "You won't ever be able to meet your own gaze."

"What else do I have left to lose?" My voice barely rose above a whisper. Fighting had become excruciatingly difficult when it seemed like I'd been fighting my whole life. It was staggering to realize that these were the same individuals I had once hoped would rescue me from this turmoil because I believed my mate would bring salvation.

The Moon Goddess had shattered my life by pairing me with these monsters. They had destroyed everything, and I could only watch as they continued to dismantle me.

"You both have stripped away everything in just a matter of days. In only two fucking days, you've achieved what you wanted - breaking me beyond repair! What else I'd there even to lose? I have lost everything already!"

Their bodies pressed against mine making it difficult to breathe. The mate-bond sparked sensations on my skin, yet it revolted me. Each spark brought back the vivid memory of them with Penelope, flashing before my eyes.

"You think that's all, Maya?" Leonardo chuckled, his nose brushing against my neck. "We can break you in countless ways. Don't underestimate us. You've earned enough punishment by daring to raise your hands at us..."

Well, I didn't regret it in the slightest.

"I don't give a fuck," I spat. "I'm not afraid of either of you anymore. You disgust me, and the sight of your fucking faces repulses me. What more can you do? Hurt me further? Shame me with your twisted use of the mate-bond against me? You've crossed every boundary, and you can't hurt me anymore!" My hands still itched to deliver a few more slaps to their faces they never even for once had shown any emotion.

"You've crossed a line today, Maya..." Maximus's voice was low, his claws digging into my skin through my clothes, eliciting a hiss from me. How could anyone treat their mate this way? I still couldn't understand, and maybe it never would.

"And I suggest you start giving a fuck because tonight will be far worse than the last," Maximus whispered into my ear, each word laced with venom, "You'll learn your fucking limits. You think you've seen and experienced everything, but no. You've seen nothing, and you'll regret your decision today."

"Indeed," Leonardo chimed in, gripping my jaw as he examined my features. "Let's see what else suits her face besides anger. Since we disgust her so much, she'll likely be disgusted with herself before we're done."

"Get away from me," I breathed out, pushing them both away.

The wounds they left were already bleeding.

"I'm sorry to disappoint you, Alpha Leonardo and Alpha Maximus, but I'm not afraid of you anymore," I said, running my fingers through my hair and pulling them back, a chuckle escaping me involuntarily. "So, if you're seeking enjoyment tonight, I suggest you call that whore Penelope. Maybe blow off some steam with her? It'd be far more entertaining for you both, because I'm done with your games. From now on, I consider my mates dead! Well, they've always been dead inside. Living monsters aren't considered alive anyway."

They remained silent, their gazes penetrating deeper than I could fathom.

Let them go to hell.

"Goodbye, mates," I mocked as I turned and walked away. Stepping into the elevator, the last glimpse I caught was their darkened gazes—a forewarning of the storm to come.

Who knew what lurked in the minds of the twins…..
