She’s a lot drunker than before we went to the dance floor. Jake seems to be avoiding her gaze, but I catch them connecting, and he flicks away every so often. I feel him physically tense every time, which alarms me on many levels.

I want to know what’s going on, if these looks mean anything, if it’s just irritation on his part, or if he has reason to be mad at her. Earlier, I had the impression that he didn’t like her much.
