Faith's heart skipped a beat as she gazed out the window, taking in the bustling airport before her. This was where her journey towards a better life would begin.
"Here we are, Miss." the driver announced as he opened the car door for her. I hope you enjoy your travels."
Taking a deep breath, Faith gathered her belongings and stepped out of the taxi. She thanked the driver, offering a warm smile, and expressed her gratitude for his role in bringing her to this pivotal moment.
Holding tightly onto her suitcase, she made her way towards the entrance of the airport, the sounds of bustling travellers and rolling suitcases filling her ears.
As she walked through the automatic doors, Faith paused for a moment.
This was the first step towards a future completely separate from David, filled with hope and self-discovery. With each step, she left behind the remnants of a broken marriage, casting aside the pain and the memories that threatened to hold her back.
As she entered the airport, Faith was greeted by a cacophony of announcements echoing through the expansive terminal. She marvelled at the vastness of the space, imagining all the departures and arrivals, each representing a new beginning or an emotional farewell. Everyone around her seemed caught up in their own stories, their adventures awaiting.
Finding herself a quiet corner, Faith sat down and pulled out her phone: no messages and no missed calls. David did not care about her, and she could not help but feel sad that seven years of her life had been washed down the drain. It was his loss. She had her beautiful unborn baby to think of now. She was desperate to ensure this innocent child would have a better upbringing than she could have imagined.
She tucked her phone back into her bag and bravely approached the departure boards. She scanned the list of destinations, both near and far, each offering a potential path to a fresh start. As her eyes roved over the names, one caught her attention - a city vibrant with possibilities, a place where she could carve her path. A whole world away from London.
Turning to glance over her shoulder, she spotted the sign for the ticket counter and slowly made her way over to it.
"Hello there. How may I assist you today?" A middle-aged lady dressed smartly with a friendly smile on her face greeted her warmly,
"Hi. I want a ticket out of here." Faith giggled as she searched her bag for relevant documents and credit cards. Screw that asshole, she thought. The least he could do was pay for her flight.
"And where would Madam like to go? We have many destinations." The attendant patiently waited for an answer so she could best assist her.
Thinking hard for a moment, a smile spread across her face as she requested a one-way ticket to none other than New York City.
"Great choice." the attendant complimented Faith. As the ticket was printed and handed to her, she felt a thrill of excitement mingled with a sense of nervous anticipation.
Lost in her world, Faith failed to notice the man who stood directly in her path. In a sudden, unexpected collision, their bodies intertwined, sending her sprawling to the unforgiving floor. The impact jolted her, momentarily stealing her breath.
As the airport's chaos swirled around her, Faith struggled to collect herself, attempting to regain her composure while nursing the pain of her fall. The man who had unintentionally become a part of her tumultuous journey appeared beside her, his concerned eyes reflecting the remorse in his voice.
"I'm so sorry," he said, extending a hand to help her up. "I didn't see you. Are you alright? Please, let me assist you."
Warily accepting the man's outstretched hand, Faith allowed him to lift her from the ground gently. Pain throbbed through her body, but the circumstances compelled her to set the discomfort aside.
"I'm fine, just a little shaken," Faith replied, her voice tinged as she glanced at her surroundings, her anxiety deepening with each passing second.
Sensing her urgency, the man's eyes softened with empathy. "You seem in a hurry," he observed, concern etched upon his face. "Is there anything I can do to help? Maybe I can assist you in catching your flight?"
A flicker of hope ignited within Faith's eyes, momentarily replacing her initial distrust with the possibility of unexpected assistance. "I appreciate your kindness," she said gratefully. "Time is of the essence. If you can point me in the right direction, it would be a great help."
Seeing her desperation, the man quickly checked the overhead flight information boards, his gaze scanning the departure gates. "Gate 24B," he said, his voice filled with urgency. "It's just around the corner. Just so happens to be my flight, too," he said.
"Thank you," she whispered, her voice laden with emotion. "I can't express how much this means to me.
