I had hoped for a peaceful morning at work, when I stepped out of the house. But I had barely stepped into the building when my secretary hurried to intercept me.

She looked flustered, which wasn’t unusual, but today there was an edge to her voice that set me on high alert.

“Sir, your son is here,” she announced.
