Chapter 49

  Jake's POV

Hunter lunged for Wayne, the sight of him touching our mate sent him into overdrive. I could see he was stitching her wound shut to help it heal but Hunter was blinded with too much rage and didn't care for his reasons.

"Hunter NO" Angel shouted as she shoved him away blocking his path to Wayne.

Forcing the shift back into human form I grabbed a blanket from the floor and wrapped it around my bottom half. Walking over to Angel I glared at Wayne as I remembered he was present in the room while Nick was tortured, doing nothing to help him remaining in the shadows. As I kneeled in front of her Wayne stepped out of arms reach sensing the anger flowing from my alpha aura. Inspecting Angel's wound I was surprised she hadn't been killed. The incision must have been four inches deep, she was lucky as had it been an inch to the right it would have hit her liver. Any stab wound to this area could be fatal even for a werewolf, you could bleed out before our wolves had a chance to heal us. Finishing the last of the stitching on Angel's abdomen I called William over, we both wanted answers and demanded to know why she thought it was a good idea to go it alone.

"Angel what happened" William said fear and worry laced his voice as he noticed her wound.

"A rogue caught me off guard, I miscounted thought there was only three ended up being more" She shrugged it off as if it was no big deal.

"Angel how could you be so reckless? Do you know how lucky you are to even be alive right now? That stab wound could have f**king killed you" I was so angry and feeling Hunter's rage only fueled the fire.

"Woah Jake calm down I'm fine, I do…"

"No Angel do not tell me to calm down. Mate or not your stupid actions could have gotten you killed. You are going back to the pack house, and you will stay there until I return" I growled cutting her off while mind linking Benson to come and get her.

"Right Jake you may be an Alpha, but you will NOT talk to my daughter that way. She is your Luna and your equal. You will apologise to her" William spoke stepping protectively in front of Angel as if to shield her from my anger.

"No offense William, but this is between us. The plan was already made now for all we know her stupid stunt could have ruined everything. There is no way in hell I am going to say sorry to her. Not now, not ever" before I could say anything else William's fist connected with my jaw knocking me backwards.

The moment I regained my balance I moved towards William punching him back. Before I knew it, we were fighting each other, each one of us refusing to back down. I could hear Angel and Benson shouting for us to stop, I knew William was stronger than me but I didn't care. Being an alpha meant your pride could be your undoing, refusing to back down no matter the cost. No alpha wanted to be seen as weak.

Having heard the screams of Angel two of the visiting alphas ran toward the back of the cave jumping right between me and William.

"He's gone" Benson shouted stopping me in my tracks.

  "Who's gone?" Angel asked him.

"Wayne, he's gone I can't find him anywhere. F*ck sake guys both of you trying to be the big bad alpha wolf has ended up in him running and probably telling Jason we are on our way. I hope you happy with yourselves. Look at you, you've both got black eyes and you're bleeding. Please tell me you both thought draining your wolves of their strength was a good idea, especially when you are going to need all the strength you can get when we go into battle" Benson was angry and rightfully so. He may be my beta, but he was my best friend, and he wasn't afraid to call me out if I lost my shit.

"Benson is right if I hadn't run off then this wouldn't be happening. I'm sorry dad, Jake"

"Yeah, yeah, all this apologizing is good an all, but our plan is f*cked. We need a new one and we need one now" Alpha Brad spoke as he stepped away from me and William.

"This may sound crazy, but I've got an idea. There is a small town about five miles from here they have a train station that will stop at the small village of Hornthall. If I'm right its practically on the doorstep of the Royal Kingdom. If we get the train, there's a good chance we can beat Wayne there or at the very least we would get past any scouts he has out. Let's face it he is going to be waiting for us and we all know he will be expecting us in wolf form, this way we have the element of surprise" Sid chimed in a as he walked up to us.

"The train are you kidding me" Benson asked him an expression that said what the f*ck written all over his face.

"Yes Benson. You know choo choo train, Thomas and the tank engine train" Sid shrugged at Benson.

"You know what Sid you're a genius" I said kissing the top of his head while I chuckled.

"Eww Jake cooties" Sid shouted as he pretended to swat the top of his head earing a laugh out of everyone present.

After we all got dressed in the clothes we carried while in wolf form, Benson and I called a meeting with the other alphas to let them know about the new plan. As hesitant as they were, they agreed. Sid was a right dummy at times but even I had to admit it, this was a good plan. Once everyone was ready and we made sure the bodies of the dead rogues were completely dispersed of we headed to the train station. Luckily it was nighttime so there wasn't a conductor present as none of us had exactly bought any cash with us. We didn't have to wait long for the next train to arrive though I was shocked to find people were in the carts. Don't ask me why but I had expected to have the train to ourselves. As we all filed onto the train, we all needed to spread out into the other carts as there were far too many of us to fit into one. This was the first time I had ever been on a train, and it made me feel woozy. With each bend in the track came a new knot in my stomach, I thought I was going to hurl. Thankfully we were only on the train two hours, had we driven it would have taken us at least six hours and in wolf form four hours to reach this village. The moment we arrived at Hornthall I pushed past everyone to get off. I needed to be on steady ground and stand still for a few minutes letting the felling of nausea settle. After composing myself and letting the fresh air fill my lungs, I could hear Hunter laughing in my head. He was amused at the way the train had me feeling, I didn't have travel sick as I had driven many motors; I owned a few of my own yet something about the train had me feeling sick as a dog excuse the pun.

"Is the big bad Alpha frightened of the little whittle train" I turned around to see Brad laughing at me.

Before I had a chance to respond Angel had punched him square in the face making a sickening crack noise. It was obvious she just broke his nose but hey he deserved it.

"Alpha or not I will kick your arse if you don't leave him alone" Angel used the full force of her Luna voice unaware that she was hurting the surrounding wolves that had been forced to the ground.

"Thanks Angel but please be careful" I said gesturing to the wolves getting off the floor.

"Shit sorry everyone, I really need to learn how to zone it in" I gave her a hug and apologized for being an arse to her earlier on.

Once we were all off the train and ready to move on William suggested we all grab something to eat before continuing on our journey. Hornthall may have been on the Royal Kingdoms doorstep, but we still had a good two hours to go in our wolf form. Jason would have had his wolves patrolling the area further out but as the train bought us past them they wouldn't know we were here making our way there safer.
