Rita's POV

　　After the shock of finding out I had a second chance mate had worn off I couldn't be happier. Not in my wildest of dreams did I think that at my age I would ever get the chance at love again. Finding out that William was actually the Alpha King didn't shock me as much as it should have, I had felt the power emitting from him but wasn't able to place what it was. When I came clean and told him I wasn't human like many believed he didn't understand. The moment I shifted his eyes pretty much bulged out of his head. I was a silver wolf; we were a rare breed of wolf and created for one purpose. We were to protect gifted wolves with ties to the moon goddess, hence our name, Moon Protector.

　　The moment I met Angel I knew exactly who she was, she was the daughter of Queen Vanessa and the grand-daughter of Selena. The day her mother died had haunted me, Selena had come to me and told me Vanessa was in trouble, but I was too late. I arrived just as she died in the arms of her mate; though at the time I didn't know it was William as I could only see him from behind. Keeping my distance, I watched as his Gamma Nick told him that his mate had the princess that she was safe. The king had told them to go to the Moonlight Pack which worked well for me being as I lived there with my mate. I had failed to stop the murder of Vanessa but would make sure I wouldn't fail her daughter.

　　Just as I set off back to the Moonlight Pack a sharp pain through my chest forced me to shift back into my human form, my body felt cold as I writhed on the ground in pain. The pain was agonizing and wouldn't end. I knew all too well what this pain meant. My husband, my mate his life had ended. I blamed myself for everything, had I stayed behind my mate would have survived the rogue attack that happened yet the consequence to that would be not knowing the location of the Princess.

　　Once I returned home all I could sense was death, more than just my mate had died. Alpha John had been severely injured but would survive and Luna Rose had gotten all the children to safety thankfully. After a few hours of me being back I noticed a red headed she-wolf come out of the pack house holding a small blonde child, I wondered if this had been Vanessas daughter but being as the Beta had taken them to a cottage instead of staying in the pack house made me think otherwise. Having lost my mate, I needed something to take my mind away from the pain I felt each day, I decided to keep an eye on the blonde child. My suspicions were confirmed when Nick arrived within the pack joining the woman, I came to learn was Marie.

　　I decided to take on a position in the pack house cooking and working in the dining room in the hopes of intercepting any information I could regarding them, the one thing I did hear caught my attention immediately. Alpha John had told his Beta that before he died William had suspected that Jake and the Princess would be mates, Alpha John wasn't happy in the slightest which worried me. He had given his word to the Alpha king that Angel would be safe at the Moonlight Pack yet a part of me worried if he would hand her over to the enemy in order to keep Jake within the pack, never finding his mate.

　　When Angel turned ten, I was awoken by what I could only describe as an electric shock, I knew it had something to do with her but wasn't sure what. Without being seen by Nick or Marie I watched as Angel shifted for the very first time revealing the most beautiful wolf I had ever seen. Her fur was pure white and her eyes a bright light blue. Whatever doubt resided inside me disappeared, this child was special and would need to learn to protect herself. Returning home, I had managed to contact the moon goddess, I told her what I had witnessed, and she too seemed shocked. I asked her how she wanted me to proceed but was asked to stand down, that I would know when to intervene. She said that after what happened with Vanessa, Marie and Nick would train her. That she was sure of. Even when kidnapped by Jason I was told not to do anything, that it was someone else's job to save her from the fate she faced. I thought it would be Jakes though now I know it was William's way of returning to the world.

　　When Nick was taken and Violet pushed Marie away taking control, I had begged the Moon Goddess to let me save her, I had the power within my to do it but was told no. She explained that she had already spoken to Marie, that she was willing to play Jasons game giving him what he wanted. To play the part of a victim, a victim that would in the end be the savior of all warrior wolves. She would be rewarded for having giving Angel the knowledge she needed to be a fighter. Sworn to secrecy I couldn't tell anyone of Marie's reward for it would come to light in time.

　　Now here I am, lurking in the shadows of the forest that surrounds the Royal Kingdom. Today I will be called upon, I could feel it in my bones. The air was thick with the scent of the upcoming war, a war in which I wouldn't fail to protect Angel.

　　Williams POV

　　"Watch out" I shouted through the mind link as one of Jakes wolves was about to be attacked from behind.

　　After splitting up, myself and the group that followed me found ourselves walking into a trap. It seemed as if they knew we were coming and that this was the route in which we would take. I just hoped that Angel didn't find the same on their route. In my group were two of the visiting alphas along with a few of their wolves and a few of Jakes. Alpha Brad handed himself well, yet he struggled with his accuracy. I knew Jake had planned on challenging him and absorbing his pack, now after watching him fight I had no doubt that Jake wouldn't win.

　　"William on your left he has a knife" Benson's voice filled my head.

　　Maximus looked to the left and rolled before the man could stab me.

　　"Been there done that, didn't enjoy it the first time" Maximus growled as he ripped the man's head from his body tossing it away.

　　Once the attack was over, I looked to see the damage. We had lost six wolves in total one of which was an Alpha. He had fought with bravery, and I would make sure to tell his Luna just that, though I know it won't be any comfort to her. A feeling I knew all too well. The Royal Pack wolves were stronger than other packs which was precisely the reason I encouraged Jake to reach out to the surrounding alphas. In order to win we would need their help. In the corner we had three royal pack warrior's that surrendered, shifting back into my human form the prisoners automatically dropped into a bow. Benson had also shifted back and placed cuffs on them just to be sure they wouldn't betray us attacking while our backs were turned.

　　"But how… your dead. Alpha killed you" one of the warriors spoke.

　　"Do I look dead? He tried to kill me but failed, anyone of you that try will also fail. Where is he now?" I roared at him making him wet himself.

　　"Well, the warriors these days seem to have very small balls for you to have that effect on him" Maximus laughed in my mind causing me to roll my eyes at him.

　　"Hhh…. he is in the interrogation room with a prisoner." The warrior told me; his voice laced with fear.

　　Mind linking Jake, I told him where Jason was and how to get there. We would end this today.

　　……..

　　Having arrived at the entrance to the dungeon I was stunned to see that Jake and his group had already dealt with the wolves standing guard.

　　"This prick said Jason has a witch down there, we will need Henrik to cast his magic block spell or whatever the f*ck he calls it" I nodded to Jake as I closed my eyes summoning Henrik.

　　Henrik was waiting just past the wall as a precaution. The last thing we needed was for Jasons witch to sense him giving away our element of surprise. As Henrik appeared I ordered the wolves to circle him, he was to be protected until we needed him. Making our way into the dungeon my nose caught Nicks scent almost immediately, picking up the pace we came to a corridor and as we turned the corner, we came face to face with the royal pack's delta force. I had anticipated running into them at some point during this mission but had hoped Jason had disbanded them as he had always said they were a pointless division of wolves to have. Guess I was wrong.

　　Before I had time to shift three of the delta wolves jumped on me each biting into me with the full strength of their sharp canines. As I became dizzy from blood loss, I saw Angel's wolf jump over me landing behind the deltas before standing on her two back paws stamping the front paws down that sent a force into the wolves knocking them all over. As she did this it distracted the three wolves holding onto me long enough for Jake and Benson to shift before tearing them off of me. Alpha Brad pulled me to the side so I could heal before being attacked again while the rest of them brutally attacked each other. Chunks of fur and splatters of blood flew through the air as each wolf battled to survive.

　　"Mate is here" Maximus growled in my head.

　　I knew she would be here at some point being as Angel was risking her life being here though I had hoped she wouldn't intervene. We didn't want knowledge of her getting out until Jason had been dealt with. All hopes of that happening went out the window as Angel's wolf Star let out a high-pitched whimper. As I searched for her white wolf, I saw Jake pulling out a silver knife from her back. Just as I was about to give Maximus control a silver blur whizzed past me knocking a group of wolves into the wall before stopping to sink her canines into the throat of the man that stabbed Angel. I watched with horror as the poison from her bite flowed into the mans bloodstream causing his veins to turn black and his body blue from lack of oxygen. The moon protectors bite was lethal and now our enemies would know why.
