Rhea's POV
I gasped, finding it hard to absorb what just happened right now, though oddly part of me feels excited over his concern but on the other hand I am left speechless and confused.
Murmurings have started arising among the people in here, all eyes were focused on us. Obviously, this is not the way that I planned this event to unfold.
"I asked again," I gulped hard at Daemon's deep voice, "Who did this to you?"
Caught in a dilemma, I didn't know what to do or how to respond to the scary question of this ruthless king in front of me, so I peeked at Kian from the corner of my eye hoping for him to save me from this shocking situation. But as usual, he exuded a cold and distant aura, his sharp and ruthless gaze focused straight ahead. Staring directly at where Daemon had his hands resting on my neck.
"Speak!" I flinch back at Daemon's outburst. Kian curled his palm in a fist before throwing his right hand over my shoulder and pulling me toward him.
My heart kept throbbing fast at the murderous look on Daemon's face, "Why are you in a daze?" His voice was icy with a hint of provocation. "Don't you remember what I told you not to ever mess this up?" He whispered beside me, only to my hearing.
Regaining my senses, I swallowed the lump in my throat as I stared at the huge muscular Greek god in front of me.
"Is okay, I just maimed myself and I so much appreciate your concern for your people, my king," despite the painful thud against my chest, I allowed my voice to be as sweet as ever, and my eyes were filled with a hint of innocence and misery that only I knew about.
"Yes, my king, I and my dear wife appreciate your concern for your people that shows how a true king you are, caring for his own people," Kian looked at me gently yet coldly at the same time. "Please, my king, go have a seat and let the merry begin," he declared.
I noticed how hesitant Daemon seemed, and I bet Kian noticed too. And just then, his beta walked to him again and whispered something in his ear.
Why is Daemon always concerned about me? Is it all about pity, or is it all about what transpired out there that very day?
I couldn't deny the fact that I feel so overwhelmed with joy to be noticed by him. The way that he stares at me, the burning attraction between us.
But I was forced to shake off my thoughts when King Daemon brought his gaze back to us. He smiled darkly after one last gruesome stare at us. I shrink deep in fear though I stood rooted to my spot with my head high but I am flipping inside, that smile of his has haunted my every awakening.
"Let the merry begin," his beta announced as Daemon walked away toward the seat meant for him without sparing me any other glance. It sent a piercing pain to my chest.
I am surprised how calm everywhere seems, all of our pack members knew too well how awful Kian treats me but who will speak? Who will want to attract a lasting wrath of an Alpha to himself?
Signing we happily motioned for the other Alphas and pack members to have their seats after we were sure that King Daemon and his beta had seated.
"Hmmm," Kian stood on his feet with a light cough drawing everyone's attention except Daemon who had his eyes pinned in my direction.
"I called for this dinner party but before I began…" He paused and peered at everyone's faces, I noticed his face scrunched in anger on noticing Daemon's eyes on me.
Indirectly chuckling, he tugged me by my clothes. I slowly looked up at him, using his head he motioned at Daemon before sending sharp glares my way. Clearing my throat, I composed myself with a rueful smile.
Hopefully, no one noticed what he just did but I guess from the look Daemon was throwing our way that he noticed. Kian cleared his throat and continued with what he was saying earlier.
"I would like to apologize for not being here on the day of the negotiation, and that is why I called for this dinner party to show my appreciation and as well apologize for my wrong. I hope that we can merry and enjoy ourselves tonight," he finished with a smile, earning a clap from everyone except Daemon and his beta.
Everywhere went silent as the omegas started bringing in food, strangely, Fiona was among those serving food. That's surprising because she is not an omega, well I wonder what she is up to.
Maybe wanting to be noticed by the high-ranking Alphas or the king, my throat burns at the image of Fiona and Daemon getting along. Never that can't happen! But why am I concerned, I shouldn't be worrying about this after I am married to my mate who is right here beside me.
Sighing, I pulled my gaze away from her, it settled back on Daemon who was sitting down and looking bored with his gaze flickering at Kian and me. His gaze is making me uncomfortable.
"These foods look delicious and favorable," one of the Alphas complimented, earning a nod from others. A satisfying smile graced the bottom of my lips.
"Well, it was made specially by our dear Luna for you all," Fiona suddenly spoke up with a smile on her lips, surprising me.
"Wow! That's good," I smiled at the compliments that I was getting from them.
"Please enjoy," holding the empty tray against her chest, Fiona bowed slightly before looking my way. Her eyes glinted mischievously, turning around as she walked away.
I can feel the heavy beating of my heart, I am having an odd feeling about her serving. Something is definitely not right, I wonder what she has done?
