CHAPTER 25 Kian's Threats

  Rhea's POV

I was left with Lila, pulling my gaze away, I swirled around to be met by amused-looking Lila.

"Shouldn't I be thanked for not spilling the coffee," she flicks her hair and mocks me. "You already know how disastrous the words seem,"

A bunch of laughs erupted from her lips, and standing in front of her makes me feel sick.

"No," I blink innocently," The fact that you couldn't speak up makes you a coward. I dare you to say such and have you ever thought of what could be the consequence if King Daemon in any way hears about this false accusation from you?" I threatened, retorting to a new method that I knew could scare her easily and have her shut her lips.

"What could be your fate? I think that you should think about that before acting like a lost puppy," She gasped at my question whilst staring at me in disbelief with a slight embarrassment.

I can't tolerate Kian's cruel words and also allow these mistresses of his to also step down on me, NEVER!

I smiled proudly to myself when looking at how she suddenly went mute under my words and not too long my subconscious gave me a snarky remark, Narcissist.

I choose to ignore my subconscious and avert my attention to where she is standing, "I was going to give you a nasty look for that false accusation but I guess it could be better to get it directly from the King," I slurred, my lips stretched out in mockery.

I watched her try to open her mouth and close them instantly as she fails miserably to come up with any words and the next thing she mumbled, "Am sorry for judging wrongly,"

I know she wouldn't want to involve Daemon in this, we all know how deadly and brutal that creature was. So I believe that she wouldn't want to involve herself in that mess and besides not like am even going to tell Daemon anything but sometimes initiating fear in them seems better.

Meanwhile, I stepped closer to her and noticed how she trembled and stepped away from me. Crossing my arms around my chest, and nodding when trying to smile politely. At least this will shut her up for a while till I find out why I am always smitten around Daemon.

"Have you ever thought of what Kian will do if he ever finds out the truth?" She suddenly spoke up when scrunching her nose in disgust.

"You mean the false accusation against the king," I stressed, she seemed taken aback by the failure of her unsuccessful attempt to intimidate me.

"Wow! Do you even have an idea how awful those words you just said sound? Sometimes I wonder how you managed to be my beta because you don't think but anyway, do you think that Kian will want anything that can stop this alliance... Being his mistress doesn't matter here, mind you," I mirrored the disgusted look on her face before laughing at her.

Sorry arrogant witch but the person that can send shivers down my spine by a mere glaze is definitely not you!

"I… I am sorry," she bit down on her lips as she angrily apologized to me.

Huh, the fear of facing Daemon, smirking. I just shrugged, "Uhmm," that was the only word that left my lips.

"I will allow this accusation to slide and act like nothing like this happened because..." I paused, gaining her attention.

She stares at me waiting for me to go on and finish up my words, smiling widely I looked straight into her eyes, "Because you are my beta,"

However, stroking her shoulder, I let out a sigh before I turned around and started walking away barely giving her any other look. At least she couldn't dare to say anything for now. I can't seem to risk our only chance of cooperating with stronger packs. If Daemon withdraws, I am afraid that other packs might as well pull away. So I am not going to take chances.

The night stretches out so quickly than I can even imagine, I found myself sitting in my room while looking at my reflection in the mirror. I slowly twisted my long blonde hair around one of my fingers, feeling its softness.

From the mirror, I could see how dull and pale my face looked. It has been three days and we haven't heard from King Daemon about whether he was still interested in cooperating with us again after the dinner.

And other pack Alphas call wanting to know if we have heard from him, we have done everything but couldn't reach Daemon. We now had our fingers crossed when waiting for his next move.

For the last three days, sleeping has been the last thing in my head. I seemed stressed out but I couldn't do anything, Kian's threats are always at the back of my head reminding me of my doom.

I couldn't make sense of anything though; the sudden silence from Daemon. Placing my head between my two palms, I closed my eyes. Plunging my vision into blackness and trying to know if I could have a bit of rest when suddenly I heard a knock at my door, causing my heart to flip rapidly.

Standing up, I tiredly moved toward the door and pulled it open.

"Mercy," I called with relief, thank goodness it wasn't the demon husband of mine.

"Why are you here?" She looks up to meet my tired gaze. From the look that she is giving me, something seems off.

Has Daemon eventually reached out to us or has something horrendous happened?
