Daemon's POV
I stomped back and forth against the floor of my office, waiting for Sam to arrive. I can feel the rage rising with each step, no matter what I do... I just can't settle.
Not long there was a squeaking sound from the door, accompanied by a familiar face, Sam.
He slowly walked up to me and dropped the files he was holding on top of the table.
"What was that?" I demanded amidst my anger.
"The rumor is everywhere, the Luna of the Blackwood Pack is not mentally okay," he replied, "I think that you have to take a look," he pointed at those files.
Glancing at the files, I sighed and turned to him, "I have already heard of that and that's why I sent for you,"
"Heard of that... how but I am just getting to tell you now," he sounds confused.
"Well, everything that I needed to know has been delivered to me," taking around my table, I turned my chair and sat down.
"What are you talking about?" Sam slowly pulled out his chair and sat down.
"I have an insider there," I unveiled, taking him by surprise.
"An insider!!" I nodded, "And you never mention that to me,"
"But you have known now,"
"Why an insider, that's very risky bro and the fact that you didn't even tell me makes me angry," he complains but I just brushed his complaints off.
"I need to know the pack that I am working with,"
"Do you also have a spy on the other packs?" He asked, "Those packs are none of my business," he narrowed his gaze at my words.
"But..."
"Shhh," I shut him up. "I called you here for a reason,"
"About the Blackwood Luna's madness," he uttered, earning a sharp glare from me.
"I don't believe that she is not mentally okay, someone that is diligent, hardworking, intelligent, polite, and industrious can't be mentally unstable," I beamed, my black eyes looking like glistening onyxes as they curved into a crescent moon.
"But..."
"Shhh," I shut him up again, "Does that sound to you like an attribute of a demented person?"
He went mute for a while before finding back his voice, "According to the report, she was been thrown into the dungeon for the safety of the pack,"
"Have you ever asked yourself when the husband suddenly doesn't want her to step out of her room that very night?" I asked solemnly, my voice steady and demanding.
Sam heaved out a sigh, "It was for their safety,"
"And why can't I believe this?"
"You have to believe this and look, bro, this is enough reasons that we need to end this alliance with them. We can't possibly associate our people with a pack where a mental Luna rules,"
"Don't you dare!" I was up on my feet, my fist pounding on the table meeting the eyes of Sam, "Watch your lips,"
"But bro, that's the honest truth or you still want our cooperation with them," he gasped.
"As the king, my word still remains, tell the other Alphas that we are still interested," I said firmly, my voice as cold as the ugly airs of the night.
Sam gaped at me speechlessly, stunned by my order.
"Have you ever asked yourself what people might think of you?"
I frown at him, "Who cares, do I look like I care?"
"The liquid that he shoved into her mouth that night, something is not adding up," I whispered under my breath though I believed that Sam heard me just fine because his eyes were perplexed.
"Everything makes sense, Daemon, the liquid was to help calm her down,"
"Said by who?" I asked, "Stop allowing yourself to be fooled, Sam,"
"And besides how come she is suddenly insane because that is not in the lineage of the Clawson,"
"I heard that the tragedy that befalls her parents and that of the pack that was not that mentally stable anymore. That the crisis does mess with her mind sometimes," he explained, annoying me.
How can he possibly believe those cheap lies? Something feels strange and I am not going to rest until I find out what it is all about.
"Mentally insane and Kian went ahead to marry her," I shook my head at him while laughing.
"Don't delude yourself, Daemon, even you can't be immune to mate bond," Sam said. My expression turned sore at his words.
"And besides, I think that it is high time we pull our minds out from the couple's affair. If we want to cooperate with them then we should not put mouths in their private life," he added.
"You can't possibly say that," my eyes round in astonishment, "Their affairs concern me because we are working with them,"
"They are mates and both married, bro," Sam expressed.
I curled my fist under the table fighting back the urge to smash his head against the nearby wall.
"How sure are you that they are mated, besides Rhea doesn't have a wolf and couldn't smell him?"
"But Kian has,"
"He might be lying about the mate bond,"
He spares me a doubtful look, "Stop being delusional, Daemon, then he claims her and even went to the extent of getting married to a psychopath,"
"I warned you to watch your lips," I threatened, my voice was ruthlessly cold fliching him.
"Lycan always has one mate, right?" He nodded confusingly at me.
"And I believe that is not people's wives or mates,"
"What are you talking about?" Sam asked, confusion looming over his face.
"Gather all the information about the Blackwood Pack and Clawson Pack, from the past to their present," I command.
"But..."
"That's finally," I interrupted him, "I guess that we are done here for now, I give you two days to gather the information," I instructed, leaving no room for an argument.
Sam trailed off, so stunned that he abandoned the rest of his words. Leaning deeper into my chair with my eyes closed, I felt my wolf retreat at the back of my mind.
Don't worry Ethan... We will get to the root of this, I said to my wolf.
