CHAPTER 40 None of My Business

  Rhea's POV

It has been a few weeks after the dreadful night, though it is hard but I have decided to focus on the pack affairs and pull my mind from anything that has to do with Kian and his mistresses.

I can not keep hoping for a man whose is neck bent in seeing me in pain and agony to change. I stood beside my office window looking down at the pack members walking around and going to their respective places.

  Knock. Knock

"Come in," I promptly announced after the third knock. The door was pushed open and Lila walked in with files in her hands.

"Here," I heard the files roughly placed on top of my desk. Shutting my eyes, I inhaled sharply.

"Have you suddenly gone mute that you no longer greet your Luna?"

I felt a sudden silence at the other end, turning around and my gaze fell on her. My eyes were frosty, hard, and filled with coldness but still, I maintained a nonchalant expression.

"I asked a question that demands an answer,"

"Hmm..." she smiled, "Is not my fault that your husband kept coming to me, so please don't vent your anger on…"

"LILA!" I dubbed, interrupting her, "Is none of my business, that is your personal life and currently has nothing to do with me,"

She raised her brow, giving me a doubtful stare, "You don't have to..."

"I believe that we are here for business, so I will appreciate it if you can keep your personal life out of work, and let's focus on our reasons for coming here," she seemed taken aback. Her gaze widened but she instantly masked her expression.

"I will pretend as if nothing happened but next I won't be this soft," I hurled her a warning stare.

"So from the files," I ignored her wide gaze and walked over to my desk. Flipping through the files, "I have come to notice that the southern part of the pack is not that well taken care of, more like it was isolated," I raised my gaze, demanding an answer.

"Hmm…" she scratches her hair nervously, "I remember instructing you to take some of the omegas with you and go and clear the grasses there, but up till now I have not gotten any feedback,"

"Is that the right thing to do, beta?" My contemptuous action made her stumble a bit nervously before mumbling, "We... I mean, yes, we did the word,"

I gave a long look, my gaze failed on the file in front of me. Going through it, I stopped and refocused on her, "You said that you did it," she nodded.

"Lila from the report and what I have observed, the place was not even touched. You did nothing, so stop lying,"

"Fine, fine!" She exclaimed when pulling on her hair, "Why are you suddenly bringing this conversation up, this is something that you assigned for me to do a week ago. So tell me why bring it up now?" There was so much hostility flashing through her eyes.

"Oh! Is it because of your husband, Alpha Kian," she smirked with venom laced in her voice.

I inhaled sharply, maintaining my expression, "Mind the way you talk to your Luna, Lila,"

"Hahaha...! Luna indeed, the same Luna that can't show anything for it. I wonder how you will react when rogues come attacking, throwing pies at them,"

My hand almost involuntarily collided with her face, withholding myself, "Lila," I exclaimed.

What is wrong with her? She knows what is doing, she just wanted to piss me off. I am not going to slap her because as usual that will involve Kian and I have sworn to distance myself from anything that has to do with him.

"As I said earlier, Lila," I smirked and stepped about closer to her. "We are here for the pack affairs, please I will appreciate it if you keep your personal affairs out of it," my voice was calm and collected.

She seemed taken aback by my action, normally she was expecting me to have latched out on her. "Since you are my beta, you have to behave, Lila,"

"The pack has to be clean and well-taken care of. No place should be left untouched because the cooperating packs and most especially the King might be visiting occasionally and I don't want them to have any bad impression on us,"

And I believe that you don't want that as well,"

"Not like it is any of my business," she murmured but I heard her but before I could react to her statement. The door was opened and Mercy walked in.

"Oh! Sorry, Luna..." she bowed showing her apology, I raised my brow confused.

"I didn't know that you were busy," she mumbled. "Why are you here?" I asked, straight to the point.

"I came..." She stammered while looking down, "I came to inform you that King Daemon sent a message,"

My heart unexpectedly somersaulted at the information, and I trailed my gaze from her to Lila. Then, I coldly blurted out, "Leave us."
