CHAPTER 12 Naked Body

  Abigail's POV

"Come on, Red! I don't know what I will catch in there!" Damien protested gingerly. Laughing at him as he stared between me and the bath from where he stood leaning up the bathroom door. I couldn't help but roll my eyes at his pettiness.

"Scaredy cat!" I teased, pouting my lips; watching his face tense, he was clearly trying to work through some inner thoughts. Letting my eyes scan over his body, I sucked in air softly; he was incredibly handsome! Model handsome! His hair seemed to change colour from dark blonde to light brown. However, the gold shimmers that caught the light never dulled. How he styled it reminded me of a TV series I had seen: Peaky Blinders — with the sides cropped short, he looked both fierce and sexy.

Running my teeth over my bottom lip, trying to process how this man made me feel! His eyes shined at me knowingly, making my heart race; He was fully aware that I was drinking him in, and he liked it. Letting out the breath I didn't know I was holding. Relenting, he kicked his expensive leather loafers off, followed by his socks. Sitting on the edge of the bath, rolling his jeans up to his knees, shaking his head in disbelief.

"Fine, but if I catch a deadly disease, Red, I am blaming you and will be expecting you to nurse me back to health." His tone was flirty, but his face was somewhat serious; "Nurse outfit and all." he added with a wink that made my breath hitch in my throat. Seeing him this close, I tried to steady my breathing, surveying his face closer. My eyes fell to his full lips, surrounded by a few days of stubble, I wanted him to kiss me! What did that make me!

Flushing recalling earlier and how close they had been to me, within kissing distance. Remembering how my heart raced having him so close. Feeling a little dizzy from the rush going through my body, I forcefully pulled my eyes from his lips. Smiling seeing him spin his legs around into the water, grateful for the distraction, although from the smug look on his face, he was thoroughly enjoying the effect he had on me!

"Careful!!" I yelped, seeing him nearly step on a fish! "We cannot very well kill them the first night I have them now, can we? Although, I do wonder how I am going to shower tomorrow." I considered with a nudge in his direction, trying to force the sexual chemistry that had charged the room back into its box, not wanting to deal with that right now. Deciding it was probably better, I got to know him better, considering one minute ago, I would have been more than okay with the promise of a nurse's outfit… And all that came with it!

"Lizzy would never trust me again if anything happened to her friends, guess I can go a few days without a shower or bath." I mused, looking at him from the corner of my eye.

"It wouldn't be the first time you smelt dreadful now, would it?" He laughed teasingly. His laugh was enchanting and made my body relax instantly; it was like I had known him my whole life, not just 24 hours, and if I was honest, I didn't want him to leave.

From where we sat silently, watching the fish swim around our feet, we could see the whole apartment. Leaning my head on his shoulder, I let myself drift into thoughts of Lizzy and how her Mother could not get away from her quickly enough, how the little girl had trusted me because I was kind to her.

Because she was used to strangers? Because she craved love?

I don't know, but it hurt my heart to think that there were children in the human world who felt just as lost and alone as I did—abandoned by their parents, thinking that they were not good enough. How cruel the human world was. Realisation; that we immortal children were not that different from those we are taught to despise.

"Red, this place needs bombing; you can't be serious about staying." I could hear the concern in his voice, which made my stomach flip.

Why did he care? He didn't even know me.

I could be a serial killer for all he knew, but then so could I for all I knew. Peeking up through my lashes at Damien, I questioned for the first time if I was safe with him; yes, he made me laugh, and yes, he was gorgeous! But what did I really know about him? Was he even human? I knew nothing other than his name and how much I wanted to see what was underneath those tight jeans and fitted shirt of his!

"I don't know what you mean. It's charming!" I added, waving my hands around me to the peeling wallpaper, stained carpets, and filthy windows.

"I have never met anyone so stubborn." He grumbled, looking at me, clearly confused by me.

"So, you haven't met many girls, huh!" I chuckled, eyeing him carefully, wondering what his story was! Was he married; I saw no ring! He was incredibly handsome in an Alpha male kind of way. Despite the evident distaste for my new home, I could tell it was coming from a place of concern, and it was refreshing to know someone cared, someone other than my mother, that is.

Thinking back on yesterday, I frowned slightly, remembering I couldn't push through the boundaries into his mind. He definitely wasn't human! But what was he? Seeing him look around the apartment, I smiled to myself. Did it matter? If I was honest with myself I knew without a shadow of a doubt he wouldn't hurt me! I just knew it! I could trust him!

If for no other reason than because Alice said so!

"How long do we have to sit here?" He groaned, boredom obviously getting the better of him.

"A little longer if you want me to wear a nurse's outfit!" I laughed, nudging his shoulder with mine, rolling my eyes at him playfully.

"You know what would make this better?" I asked, wiggling my brows. "If we were in the tub… naked... with no fish!"

"Way to lower the tone, Ace!" I teased, biting my bottom lip at the images flashing through my mind of Damien naked in the bath; if I thought he looked good naked, my mind had him looking ten times better naked!

Knowing my cheeks were flushed, I lowered my head, trying to hide the fact my head was very much in the gutter.
