CHAPTER 20 Caesar's Palace!

  Damien's POV

Staring at the text message I had written out and was considering sending, I decided I sounded desperate. Red was an angel; that, I was certain of it. I could sense her purity and divine power, even if it was mingled with an otherworldly malice that I didn't even know existed. With a throaty groan, I threw my phone on the bed, just like I had the last four times I had wanted to text Abigail.

Walking towards the window, my shoulders stiff with tension and annoyance. I looked out over the town but, more importantly, over the apartment block Red had just moved into. I knew it was a little stalker-ish, but I didn't like this part of town, and I liked it less now that the wolves seemed to be circling. I couldn't guarantee she was safe! If I couldn't convince her to move, I would have to stay closer to keep an eye on her and ensure she was safe.

Hearing my phone buzz, I turned over my shoulder, seeing my Father's name flash on the screen; I leaned over to pick it up, answering with a sigh.

"I'm busy! What do you want?" I snapped moodily; I couldn't be arsed to listen to one of his lectures.

"Where are you?" I could hear the amusement in his voice, standing to go to the window, not wanting to miss anything.

"I'm working! Remember!" I grumbled, bored by this phone call. There had been no movement from her apartment all day, but I didn't want to risk missing something.

"Where?" My Father asked dryly, all amusement gone from his voice.

"Why? Wanna come to hold my hand?" Narrowing my eyes through Red's window, I continued. "Relax, will ya, and let me do my job!" Hanging up quickly, cutting him off mid sentence.

"Finger in every bloody pie, huh, Father." I groaned with a roll of my eyes, throwing my phone behind me, finally seeing movement in Red's flat. Seeing her rush to the door, panic rushed through me. She seemed startled, and I hated not knowing why.

"What is going on, my Ruby Rose?" I whispered to myself curiously.

Watching her through the window as she scooped the neighbour's child up, it didn't take long for the mother to dump the kid on Red.

"Someone needs to make her disappear; it will be in the kid's interest in the long run." I mused, watching Red play with the child before picking out her clothes.

I should look away, but if Red didn't want people to watch her undress, she would close her curtains. Instead, she pulled a tank top over her head and threw it on the bed beside her, her luscious locks cascading down her beautifully slender back. Visions of my hands in her mane as I licked up her spine filled my mind deliciously. Unaware, I was clenching the chair so hard it was creaking under my force as I watched her turn to pick up her dress; I sucked in a breath, watching her stunningly tight breasts bounce freely, desperate to take those little rose buds into my mouth. Unable to stop my cock from hardening in my jeans, I shifted a little on the spot. Seeing her pull her dress over her head, I chuckled darkly.

"We're going braless today I see, Red? You are a vixen, aren't you." She was indeed a beauty; no one could deny that with her vibrant hair, ivory skin unmarked and flawless, apart from scatterers of red freckles. Watching the fabric slip over her pert breasts. Her tight stomach dipped in a perfect hourglass under the smooth fabric. I could watch her all day, and I planned to do just that now I had acquired this apartment.

Fate, it seemed, had other plans! She was grabbing her keys and out of the apartment, obviously off shopping, given the excitement I could see on the kid's face. Watching her leave the complex, I grinned slyly, seeing her pass the waste of air huddled in his sleeping bag outside her apartment. Apparently, I hadn't given him a stern enough warning about talking to my girl. She was oblivious to him, even as he held out his hand for coins from her. My lips twitched into a smirk seeing him realise who she was and drop his hands, recoiling nervously.

"Wise choice," I hummed, waiting for them to disappear around the corner and out of view before closing my eyes, picturing her apartment in my mind, every little detail I remembered from last night. Opening my eyes, I nodded approvingly; I loved transportation magic. I only had to think of a place I had been before, and I could go there in a blink of an eye- literally.

Walking around the room, I picked up Abigail's tank top taking in a deep whiff of her Vanilla and coconut scent, she even smelled innocent! Screwing it up and tucking it in my jean pocket, I began to look around through her bags and personal things. It wasn't often I broke the rules like this, but this creature had me hooked; I needed more. I wanted to understand her! What made her tick? What excited her? Was she creative or academic? Had she got a partner secretly? Given how close she had let me get over the last few days, I doubted it. What went on in that pretty head of red curls?

Spying a calendar, I pulled it off the wall and checked it over, grinning, seeing it was her birthday in two days! She would be 18! What plans did she have? How did she feel about being away from her family on her birthday? It was clear her mother was a big part of her life, although I didn't understand why! Given how often she had called her yesterday, I would say she was borderline obsessive. Snorting a little as realisation hit at how ironic that thought was, knowing I was stealing her top to smell her while I kept a watchful eye on her!

But someone had to! She was new to town, innocent, and had no one to protect her. Other than me! And I would be damned if I failed at the role of guardian angel. A position I had given myself!

Sitting back on her bed, I imagined her sleeping here in this dump; she had shown such excitement that I couldn't help but wonder where she had come from. What was her situation? Her real story! This was the worst of the worst yet to her; this dump seemed to be her Caesar's palace! The best thing since sliced bread!
