CHAPTER 53 Don't Get Attached to Her

  Damien's POV

"You fucking dick," I growled at my father; Ares roared in my head, seeing her turn to face me, pure panic crossed her beautiful features. It took all my strength to lock Ares down tight in my father's presence. Trust my father to drop this bomb on her when she was already overwhelmed.

Although I don't know why I was surprised he was a calculated bastard, he always had been. Without a shadow of a doubt, I knew he was using his powers to reinforce her fears, playing on them and drowning her in doubt. It was a game he liked to play with those he deemed inferior.

Seeing her look at me like she was now was heartbreaking; I didn't need to be inside her head to know what was eating at her. She was worried I knew about her parentage, and I did! But it didn't bother me; nothing bothered me apart from her safety and happiness. Right now, I was ready to rip my father a new ass hole for causing her an ounce of pain; heck, I still might if he didn't stop tormenting her.

Knowing the wolves were circling made me nervous; I didn't want them getting their claws into her in this vulnerable state. With her skin pale and cheeks flush, she was literally petrified. Even without my super hearing, I could hear her heart hammering in her chest; I desperately needed her to calm down. Taking a step closer to her, intending to reassure her, sighing, seeing her freak out and take a step back right into my father's grasp.

Shooting him a warning look, I attempted to close the gap between Red and I, but the damn pup beat me to it; the last thing I could see before Maxwell blocked my path was her reaching out to Jason hysterically.

"MOVE", I growled at Maxell, who stood tall and imposingly in front of me; this fucker was starting to get on my last nerve; I was minded to let Ares at him just to get this fucking mess cleared up once and for all.

"BEFORE I MAKE YOU, CUNT", I seethed, the last word rolling off my tongue like poison, anger coming off me in waves striking Maxwell full force, given the look of unease that washed over him, and Tommy, who squared his shoulders, caught between us all. I knew he was working through his fears; he knew first-hand what I could do, but he seemed the loyal soldier type who would want to guard his Alpha. For everyone's sake, I hoped his fear of me was greater than his need to protect.

"Alpha, I'd let him pass." He stated nervously; given how his eyes glossed over, I knew he was linking him privately to finish that sentence; whatever he said seemed to work because Maxwell stood to the side, letting me pass. In two steps, I was behind Jason, yanking him off his feet by his cheap shirt; for a superior being, I threw him on his ass as if he was nothing, letting him land roughly at his father's feet as a warning.

Turning to face him, his eyes glowed black; his teeth elongated. His wolf was not impressed with my little stunt and making a show. My eyes as Red as the pits of hell, I felt Ares ripple through me.

"FUCKING STAY DOWN!" He roared venomously; given the looks on their faces, Areas had evidently shocked the three wolves in front of me. The fact I had a wolf was not something I had made public knowledge of; this wasn't exactly how I wanted to announce that little fact; I had planned on letting him out when the time came to annihilate Maxwell's pack from the planet, but getting to Red came first. My father would have to understand that.

Turning my attention back to Red, who looked paralysed by the fear that spiralled through her, my body shook with fury. Every muscle in my body tensed; I wanted to throttle my father for putting her through this. He had pushed into my mind just before he arrived, letting me know his plan: he didn't want Red telling the pack any info on her dream, so he planned to distract Abigail, wanting to separate her from the wolves.

Swooping Abigail up in my arms just as she collapsed, pushing past my father with a death stare, I headed towards the closest restaurant. Ordering all the customers out, Daddy dearest could pick up their bills; it's the least he owed me for talking me into this bullshit and putting Red through hell.

"OUT!" I roared as the staff came over, furious at our invasion. Laying her down gently in one of the booths, I climbed beside her and rested her head on my lap. Feeling my father behind me, I narrowed my eyes on him.

"Seriously? A bit much, don't you think!" I growled at him, absently stroking Red's hair.

"Did the trick, didn't it?" He stated dryly; my eyes bore into him angrily. I observed the smug way he leant up the bar surveying me with those cold eyes, almost as frigid as his heart. The waiting staff returned with their manager just as Maxwell and his little posse entered the restaurant.

"For fuck sake, they follow her around like a bad smell." I groaned, watching Maxwell speak to the manager, apologising for the intrusion.

"And you don't?" My father laughed dismissively. "Is she ok?" He asked, nodding towards Red, who lay in my lap, her body as cold as ice - clearly touched by my father's magic.

"Don't pretend to give a shit." I snapped, not even looking up at him; my eyes remained on Red.

"Fair enough." His voice was laced with bitterness. "Son, remember your priorities. Don't get attached to the girl!"

"She's not just any girl!" I shot back, lifting my eyes to meet his ocean hues, my nostrils flaring angrily.

"I am aware!" His level tone left a chill in the air. I could not answer as Maxwell and Jason appeared with their entourage behind them.

"I have sorted the staff. Seemingly, they had some questions after being growled and shouted at." He stated, eyeing Red and I suspiciously. Jason pushed past his father, coming to look at Red, who lay across the seat beside me. Leaning down, he pressed the back of his hand to her cheek. Shaking his head, he glared at me, obviously troubled.

"She's freezing. What happened to her?" His accusing tone left no room for misunderstanding - What did you do to her? That is what he meant!

"She's waking up." He grinned like a muppet nodding to her. As if on cue, I felt Abigail stir; Jason knelt beside me, bathing us both in his stench of mutt; it took all of my willpower not to smack him straight in his thick skull.

"No shit, Sherlock", I mumbled, stroking her hair back from her face. Smiling see her pale skin slowly returning to its usual pink hue.

"Damien?" she whispered, looking up at me, making my heart flutter ridiculously,

"In the flesh, baby." I purred, stroking the blush that crossed her cheeks. "Where am I?" She moaned gently, trying to lift herself up onto her elbows weakly. "Where's Jason?"

"I am here, princess; you got yourself in a bit of a tizzy, you're ok now - we got you."

"Tizzy!" I sneered, looking at Jason mockingly. "What are you, 90?"Cocking my head to the side, I winked at Red, trying to make her smile. "That would explain the driving, I guess." Seeing Red giggle, I looked down at her adoringly - she was gorgeous even when flustered.

"Abigail, I know you have had a long day," Maxwell interjected, making my jaw clench, noticing Red tense against me. "but I still need to talk to you about your dreams." Maxwell pleaded, his tone soft but still too pushy for my liking, and given the look of disgust on Jason's face, I knew he agreed.

"Pop's really you think now is the time and place?"

"Why don't we ask those who have lost their life today if it is too soon for an explanation." He declared triumphantly, obviously wanting an explanation.

Feeling Red sag against my side, a soft sigh slipped past her delicate lips. I knew she wasn't up to this, but given her predisposition to appease those around her, she would do as he asked! Lucky for her, I didn't give a fuck about stepping on people's toes.

"They're dead! I don't think they care all that much! So what is your real agenda here?" I turned to those gathered around us, my eyes turning a deep shade of Red as they narrowed on Maxwell.
