Dana
"No," I reply softly, my voice trembling with the weight of my doubts. "But I just can't shake the feeling that I'm merely striving to attain power, and I fear I might tarnish your legacy. I worry that our child-" I halt midsentence, inadvertently letting slip the word "child."
Her eyes widen, and for a moment, I think I've escaped her notice, but her reaction tells me otherwise. She gulps, her expression betraying a mixture of surprise and confusion, as if she hadn't anticipated my revelation. Uncertainty dances across her features, mirroring the turmoil within me.
"Did you just mention a baby with him?" she asks, her touch gentle as she grasps my hand, her eyes searching mine for confirmation.
"Anna-" I begin, but she interrupts me before I can finish my sentence.
"You have to tell me about it. You don't need to hide it from me. I don't care about what my brother might say," she insists, her desperation palpable as she implores me for the truth. I can see the determination in her gaze, and I know it would be disrespectful to deny her request.
A tear trickles down my cheek as I nod in confirmation, and she withdraws her hand from mine.
"I don't know if you-"
"If you think I hate it, I don't," she interrupts, her voice gentle yet firm. "Why would you think that? Since when did you find out about-"
"Just yesterday," I interject, my voice barely above a whisper.
She sighs, a mixture of relief and concern evident in her expression. "Does Bathel know about it?"
I nod solemnly. "Yes, he assured me of his unwavering support. I had contemplated keeping it, but I'm overwhelmed by the uncertainty of what lies ahead. What if I can't handle it? What if our baby inherits my weaknesses? I don't want our child to endure the same hardships I've faced-" My words falter as she reaches out, gently touching my hand in a gesture of comfort and understanding.
"Dana, calm down..." she murmurs, her voice laced with empathy as she meets my tear-filled gaze.
I blink back tears, but she interrupts my impending breakdown with a firm declaration. "Do not say that," she insists, her tone unwavering.
Shaking her head, she leans in closer, her voice barely above a whisper. "That's not going to happen," she reassures me. "You're stronger than you realize, and no one will dare to harm that baby of yours. They'll have to contend not just with you and Bathel, but with me as well," she declares, her grip on my hand tightening in a gesture of solidarity and protection.
"You have to make a good decision about this, Dana," she says gently, her words carrying a weight of reassurance. "I'll support you no matter what, but I want you to know that you don't have to be afraid to keep that baby just because you doubt your capabilities as Luna."
"I don't believe that for a second," she whispers, her voice filled with conviction as she looks into my eyes. "You just have to believe in yourself at this moment, Dana," she adds, rising from her seat and approaching me.
I stand up as well, and she envelops me in a warm embrace. I reciprocate the hug, feeling a sense of comfort and strength in her arms.
"I thought you were going to oppose it," I laugh softly as she releases the embrace.
"Why would you think that? I know damn well how much my brother loves you, and... You're the first woman I've ever considered worthy of him, and that's saying something," she admits with a sigh.
"Have you talked about this with Bathel? Shared your concerns?" she asks again, her face creased with worry lines.
I nod in affirmation. "Yes, I just don't want to hurt him..." I admit, my gaze drifting downward.
"No," she interjects firmly. "I know my brother, and he will always support you no matter what. You have to put faith in yourself and your relationship with him, Dana," she adds, her words carrying a tone of conviction.
"I guess that's why he's not really in the mood to talk with me lately," she sighs, her expression reflecting a mix of understanding and concern for her brother's well-being.
I consider probing further, but I realize it's best to address the issue directly with Bathel instead.
"I trust Bathel, and I know that he will do everything for me..." I pause, the weight of my decision hanging in the air. "But I guess I will have to keep the baby, not because I think of hurting him, but because I believe it's time to stop hiding our relationship," I conclude, meeting her gaze with determination. Her face lights up with a smile at my words.
"Really?" she gulps, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "You know I've been waiting for you to say this. Bathel probably can't wait either," she adds, her enthusiasm contagious as it brings a smile to my lips.
"He really can't," I joke, sharing a moment of levity amidst the seriousness of our conversation.
"It's for the best that people know about your relationship with him. You'll become the Luna everyone will fear, and the baby... it's important. People will not hate you; they will respect and cherish you," she murmurs, her hand tenderly resting on my stomach.
"But are you truly sure about this decision? Are you certain about keeping it, or do you feel pressured? Look, I'm not trying to-" she starts, her voice tinged with concern.
"No," I smile back. "I was just really scared, but I think I want this baby. And you're right; I know this will strengthen my bond with Bathel," I affirm, feeling a sense of relief wash over me.
"And I'm excited to become an aunt," she chuckles, pulling me into another embrace. The weight of our conversation seems to lift, replaced by a shared sense of anticipation and joy for the future.
