CHAPTER 53 By My Side

  Dana POV

Anna and Bathel have previously engaged in discussions regarding my impending pregnancy, which transpired without any significant issues. However, Anna has yet to disclose to Barthel my intention to proceed with the pregnancy.

Bathel has been preoccupied with diligently overseeing the pack's security measures, conducting thorough patrols, attending numerous meetings, and entertaining various invitations. Nevertheless, amidst his multifarious obligations, his foremost concern remains attending to my needs and well-being.

Presently, we find ourselves ensconced within his chamber, where Bathel has graciously arranged an abundant spread of nourishment specifically tailored to accommodate my dietary requirements.

"I am inclined to ensure your utmost comfort," he whispered while positioning a chair with deliberate care for my benefit.

A grateful smile graced my lips as I gazed upon him. "Your consideration is deeply appreciated," I expressed my gratitude, my attention momentarily drawn to the tempting array of food before me, although my appetite remained elusive.

"You requested a comprehensive selection," he reminded me, his tone reflecting a meticulous attention to detail. "Rest assured, I have taken every measure to-"

"I fear I may not be able to partake in consuming the offerings," I interjected gently, my gaze drifting downwards, my energy reserves feeling depleted.

His concern palpable, he inquired softly, "Would you care for a beverage?" His attentive eyes never waver from my form.

Drawing a deep breath, I murmured, "I believe a small amount of water might be beneficial..." My fingers delicately grazed through my hair as I met his gaze.

"Indeed," he replied with alacrity, swiftly attending to the task of filling the glass to the brim with refreshing water, his movements executed with practiced efficiency and a palpable eagerness to fulfill my needs without delay.

Extending the glass towards me with a gentle yet assured gesture, he presented it to me with an air of solicitous concern, his eyes reflecting a depth of compassion and attentiveness that did not go unnoticed.

Expressing my gratitude with a soft smile, I accepted the glass, feeling the coolness of the water against my lips as I took a measured sip, allowing its hydrating properties to soothe my parched throat and invigorate my senses ever so slightly.

Setting the glass down delicately upon the nearby surface, I found myself momentarily adrift in a sea of contemplation, my mind devoid of any pressing agenda or immediate desire, content to simply exist in the tranquil embrace of the present moment.

Bathel drew a deep breath, his chest rising and falling with a steady rhythm as he approached me from behind, his hand reaching out to gently touch my shoulder. Leaning in, he pressed a tender kiss to the crown of my head, his other hand finding its place alongside the first on my shoulder as I reciprocated his embrace with a comforting hug.

"I understand the turmoil you're experiencing at this moment," he murmured, his breath warm against my ear. "You need not burden yourself with the weight of decision-making. Whatever path you choose to tread, I want you to know that my unwavering support and love will be steadfast by your side, guiding you through every twist and turn."

"I am resolved to keep it," I declared firmly, interrupting his words mid-sentence. The pounding of my heart echoed loudly in my ears, matching the rhythm of his heartbeat, which seemed to falter momentarily in disbelief at the revelation.

Slowly, he withdrew his hand from my shoulder, his gaze meeting mine with a mixture of astonishment and tenderness as he pivoted to face me. Without a word, he lowered himself to one knee before me, a gesture laden with reverence and acceptance, silently acknowledging the weight of my decision and offering his unwavering support in return.

"Are you certain?" he queried earnestly, the sincerity in his gaze unwavering. His eyes remained fixed on mine, conveying a silent plea for assurance and clarity.

"Yes," I breathed, my voice barely above a whisper, a hint of uncertainty mingling with my conviction. Swallowing hard, I continued, "Why would I choose otherwise? This decision is a sign of my enduring love for you, and I refuse to succumb to weakness when I must stand by your side as your Luna. I am determined to cast aside all fear and embrace the responsibilities that lie ahead." As I spoke, I tenderly cupped his face in my palms, seeking solace and reassurance in the warmth of his presence.

"I do not need fear as long as I have you by my side, Bathel," I asserted, my voice a soft hiss laden with determination. "The only thing that truly frightens me is the thought of losing you, and that's the extent of it," I added, recalling Divine's words with a pang of introspection.

I refused to allow any doubt to linger regarding my loyalty and love for Bathel. It was imperative for everyone, including Divine, to understand that my heart belonged solely to him. The impending arrival of our child served as a tangible symbol of our union.

Bathel continued to absorb my words, his expression transitioning from disbelief to a glimmer of joy as he pressed a tender kiss to the palm of my hand. "Are we truly going to have this baby...?" he murmured, a flicker of happiness dancing in his eyes.

With a gentle nod, I affirmed, "Yes, Bathel. I am going to carry our child, and together, we will nurture and care for it." As the reality of our impending parenthood sank in, a radiant smile graced his lips, his arms enveloping me in a tight embrace.

I returned his embrace, savoring the warmth of his presence with my eyes closed, feeling the steady rhythm of our intertwined breaths.

"And I cannot wait to become the father of your child," he murmured into my ear, his words eliciting a tender smile from me.

"We are," I whispered in agreement, a sense of profound contentment settling over me as I nestled closer to him.
