Dana POV
"You look tired, and I would like to make up for some times when I kind of ignored you because I thought you were just like one of them, the bad ones, but you're not."
A smile tugs at the corners of my lips as I listen to her heartfelt apology, touched by the sincerity of her gesture. "Really?" I respond, my voice filled with genuine gratitude. "Then, thank you!"
With a sense of anticipation, I walk towards the table, my eyes alight with curiosity as I take in the sight before me. The cookies, golden brown and fragrant, beckon to me with their promise of comfort and sweetness, while the cup of tea steams invitingly, promising warmth and solace in equal measure.
"I would like to watch you taste it because I need your opinion if it's good or not..." Mariel chuckles softly, her eyes twinkling with anticipation.
Returning her smile, I am about to respond when something catches my eye-a small portion of the cookies tainted with what appears to be a potential case of food poisoning. I suppress a gasp, my heart racing with alarm as I realize the danger lurking before us.
Maintaining my composure, I swiftly changed course, my instincts kicking into overdrive as I faced Mariel.
My heart starts to beat fast. "What the hell were you thinking?" I asked with a bad eye glare to hers. My wolf heart beat in an aggressive way.
"What?" Mariel asks confusion etched into her features as she gazes up at me from where we've landed on the floor.
I meet her gaze with a steely determination, my voice firm as I cut through the tension between us. "I know your plan," I declare, my words heavy with implication.
She blinks, her expression shifting from confusion to disbelief. "I don't know what you're talking about-" she begins, but I cut her off before she can finish.
"Eat it," I order, my tone leaving no room for argument as I point to the tainted cookies with a sense of urgency.
Despite the risk, I know that confronting the danger head-on is the only way to ensure our safety and uncover the truth behind Mariel's intentions.
As Mariel clenches her jaw, her expression hardening with defiance, she attempts to justify her actions. "It's for you..." she mutters, her words tinged with desperation.
My eyes widen in alarm as they flicker to her pocket, where a glint of metal catches my eye-a knife, concealed within easy reach.
Before I can react, Mariel's movements are swift and decisive. With a sudden lunge, she snatches the knife from her pocket, its blade gleaming ominously in the light of the kitchen. In an instant, she has me pinned against the wall, the sharp point of the knife pressing threateningly against my neck, its edge poised to strike at the slightest provocation.
Fear courses through me, paralyzing me as I struggle to comprehend the sudden turn of events. My mind races with questions, desperate for answers to the mysteries surrounding Mariel's actions. But in that moment, all I can do is remain frozen in place, acutely aware of the precariousness of my situation and the danger that looms ominously before me.
"You have to die..." Mariel's voice drips with venom, her anger palpable as she presses the knife against my neck with a chilling resolve.
With a surge of desperation, I send a frantic mind-linked message to Bathel, pleading for his assistance as I struggle to maintain my composure in the face of imminent danger. My wolf stirs within me, agitated and unsettled by the threat looming over us.
"Don't you dare howl or I will-" Mariel begins to warn, but her words are abruptly cut off as Bathel bursts into the kitchen, his presence commanding and authoritative.
"Let her go!" Bathel's voice booms with authority, his eyes flashing with a mixture of concern and determination as he confronts Mariel, his imposing figure radiating strength and resolve.
"Bathel!" Mariel swiftly exerted force, disentangling me from her grasp.
Meanwhile, Adrian surged forward, his strides purposeful, his grip firm as he restrained the frantic servant, thwarting her desperate attempt to flee.
With gentle coercion, Bathel guided my head to rest upon his broad chest, offering a semblance of solace amidst the turmoil that had just unfolded. Inhaling deeply, I could feel the remnants of adrenaline coursing through my veins, my chest tight with the residual effects of the harrowing encounter.
Amidst the commotion, Rafael also made his approach, his presence a stabilizing force amidst the chaos. Both beta and gamma, resolute in their duty, united in their efforts to subdue the unruly servant, their combined strength serving as a barrier against her frenzied attempts to break free from their grasp.
"Are you unharmed?" Bathel's whispered inquiry brushed against my ear, tender concern evident in his tone.
"Y-yes," I managed to gasp out, my breath still shallow from the residual shock.
"Why did you feel compelled to act in such a manner?" Bathel's voice rang out, laced with a potent mix of curiosity and authority, directed towards the quivering servant still firmly held within his grasp.
Amidst the escalating tension, Mariel's voice quivered with a mixture of anguish and desperation as she struggled to articulate her innocence. Tears streamed down her cheeks, a poignant testament to the turmoil raging within her.
"I... I don't know... I didn't intend..." Her words faltered, drowned out by a surge of emotions threatening to overwhelm her fragile composure. Accusations hung heavy in the air, casting a pall over the once tranquil atmosphere.
"You must cease these falsehoods!" My words sliced through the tumult, my resolve unyielding as I confronted Mariel, unwilling to entertain further deceit. Her silence spoke volumes, a testament to the weight of guilt she bore.
Bathel, releasing his hold on me, strode forward with purpose, his expression grave as he confronted Mariel. "It was clear that you did try to harm my mate." with each measured step, the gravity of the situation became increasingly apparent, the repercussions of her actions casting a shadow over our once unshakeable bond.
