CHAPTER 79 Did He Do Something To You?

  Dana POV

As he closed the distance between us, his strong hand gently enveloped mine, offering a reassuring embrace that filled me with a deep sense of security. With Ares's eyes fixed upon us, I couldn't help but notice the subtle shift in his demeanor, a silent acknowledgment of the bond shared between Bathel and me.

"What brings you to this place?" Bathel's voice resonated with a restrained anger, his protective instincts palpable in the air.

"I am not here for you, your people, or your territory," Ares retorted, his tone unwavering despite the tension in the room. "My sole purpose is Dana," he declared, his words carrying a weight that sent a shiver down my spine, a reminder of the uncertainty that always seemed to accompany his presence.

"What? Are you trying to harm her again!?" Bathel's voice rang out, his arms instinctively moving to shield me from any potential danger.

Ares clenched his jaw, his expression tightening with frustration. "I could never harm someone I love," he stated firmly, meeting my gaze with a sense of regret evident in his eyes.

I couldn't help but feel a wave of disappointment wash over me as I looked at him, grappling with the sudden shift in his demeanor and motives.

Why is he doing this to me? What could explain the abrupt change in his attitude? These questions swirled in my mind, leaving me bewildered and uncertain of what lay ahead.

Bathel shook his head in disbelief. "If you truly love her, you would never bring her harm."

"I love her, which is why I'm willing to sacrifice our relationship to protect her," Ares interjected, his words striking a chord within me, though they carried a weight of regret that I couldn't shake off.

Bathel grunted in frustration. "You need to leave. You're not welcome in this pack!" he demanded, his voice thick with anger and resentment. Sensing his emotional turmoil, I pulled him closer, seeking to offer what comfort I could in the tumultuous situation.

I don't want them to fight in front of me, I interjected softly, hoping to quell the rising tension.

"I understand," Ares murmured, his eyes meeting mine with a mixture of regret and determination.

"But I won't rest until I reclaim what rightfully belongs to me," he added cryptically, his words sending a shiver down my spine as I struggled to comprehend their meaning.

I knew Ares had always harbored ambitions of seizing control of this territory, but the intensity of his resolve now left me unsettled.

"You're out of your mind," Bathel muttered under his breath, his voice heavy with accusation. "Because of you and your Luna, we lost our child!" he exclaimed, the pain of his words piercing the air like a knife.

Ares's gaze remained fixed on me, unwavering even as Bathel directed his words toward him.

"I will set things right and prove your doubts wrong," Ares declared, running his fingers through his hair with a mixture of determination and defiance. His small smile, tinged with a hint of mockery, met Bathel's gaze, further igniting the tension between them.

"How dare you..." Bathel's voice trailed off as Ares's form suddenly shifted, his body transforming into that of a majestic black wolf named Blaze. Without a moment's hesitation, Blaze turned and bolted away from us, disappearing into the depths of the forest, leaving Bathel and me alone in the territory, with a sense of uncertainty lingering in the air.

The distant sound of Ares's Alpha howl echoed through the forest, resonating like a call to someone beyond our understanding. My own wolf heart quickened its pace in response, a physical reminder of the unique connection between Ares and his wolf form, Blaze. It was a connection I had come to accept as an undeniable truth.

"Did he do something to you?" Bathel's gentle touch on the side of my face brought me back to the present moment, his kiss on my forehead a comforting gesture amidst the turmoil. I met his gaze with a mixture of vulnerability and exhaustion.

I shook my head slowly, my voice barely above a whisper. "I could never let him hurt me the same way he did before," I admitted, the weight of those words hanging heavily in the air. As I spoke, I could see the worry etched in Bathel's eyes, a reflection of the deep concern he held for my well-being.

"He's causing you distress..." Bathel murmured, his voice heavy with concern. "I won't allow him to continue. He has no place in this pack!" His words were laced with anger, his stance reflecting the intensity of his emotions.

I nodded in agreement, my feelings of unease growing with each passing moment. "I don't want to see him again. It's baffling how he's able to intrude upon this pack despite the presence of numerous warriors guarding our boundaries," I confessed, the rapid rhythm of my heart betraying my anxiety.

"Don't fret, Dana. I will ensure he never sets foot in our territory again," Bathel reassured me, his tone resolute. "I know he's attempting to manipulate you, to seize everything you hold dear. But no one can come between us and our love," he affirmed, his words a soothing balm to my troubled soul. With a grateful nod, I allowed him to envelop me in a comforting embrace, finding solace in the warmth of his embrace as I rested my head against his steady chest.
