Ares POV
He lunged forward, his fist aimed at my face, but I deftly sidestepped, narrowly avoiding his blow.
"You're fucking drunk," he spat, his voice dripping with contempt. "Are you here to harass her again?" His words were laced with accusation, his eyes burning with anger as he glared at me.
"No," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "I could never do something like that. I just want to see her face again. What's your problem?" My words were tinged with desperation, a plea for understanding.
"She's not into you anymore," he stated matter-of-factly, his voice devoid of emotion. "Let's be real with each other right now without trying to fight. It's the truth, Dana will never come back to you." His words hung in the air like a heavyweight, but instead of crushing me, they elicited a bitter laugh from my lips.
"Is that what you think?" I scoffed, shaking my head in disbelief. "You have no idea."
"How can you be so sure of yourself?" I asked, a bitter laugh escaping my lips as I struggled to contain my disbelief.
"Because she loves me-" he began, his voice confident.
"She was deeply in love with me," I interjected, my words cutting through his certainty like a knife.
"Was," he repeated coldly, his words dripping with finality. "You're the one who said it yourself. She will never forgive you for what you did. You may not have been the one who tortured her, but your Luna did," he added, his voice heavy with accusation.
"You're bound to be with your Luna, so it means-" he began, but I cut him off before he could finish.
"You're not making any sense," I retorted, my voice laced with frustration. "I will do everything for Dana, to punish all the people who come in her way. I imprisoned my own Luna and killed the rogue who tortured her. And what about you?" I challenged him, my tone daring him to justify his actions. He tightened his jaw in response, unable to offer a retort.
"What about me?" he laughed bitterly. "I listened to her. I don't want to do things that she will never like. We're working together to get her strength back and to defy your pack, even though we lost our baby," he added, his words heavy with the weight of our shared loss. But despite his attempts at justification, his words did little to change my perception of him.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked, my voice tinged with skepticism as I scanned the room, searching for any signs of deceit or hidden agendas.
"I don't need to know about that. You can attack anyone because I know that you're nothing compared to me. Your power cannot destroy my pack, and I don't think I will associate with Blaire as I am cutting my ties with her..." I paused, letting the weight of my words sink in. "All I care about is Dana."
His face twisted with anger, the intensity of his emotions practically palpable in the air between us.
"Stop it," he stated firmly, his tone a mixture of frustration and desperation.
"Let us have happiness," he begged, his voice tinged with a sense of urgency.
His plea elicited a small smile from me. "What's the sudden change of heart? Are you afraid that she will forgive me and be with me again?" I taunted, unable to resist the opportunity to provoke him further.
"No!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with conviction. "I know that Dana loves me, and she will never do that. I just want you to give us the peace that we need. You can have anything you desire, and I will surrender everything for Dana," he pleaded, running his fingers through his hair in frustration.
"Do you want my territory? Do you want to invade us? Fine! Take it! You don't want an alliance, but it seems you do covet our territory and resources! Well, I'll let you have it. Just let Dana stay with me," he begged, desperation evident in his voice as he pleaded for the one thing he held most dear.
I could see the intensity of his love for Dana reflected in his eyes. I knew he desired her deeply, but I was not one to yield to the desires of others, especially when it came to my political rival. Dana was invaluable, irreplaceable. No amount of power or territory could ever compare to her worth.
"She's priceless. Your territory means nothing in comparison to Dana. I desire only her, and nothing will deter me from pursuing her. I will return day after day, and you will not be able to impede my plans," I declared, my tone resolute and unwavering, devoid of any hint of compassion.
As I stood there, facing him with a smirk plastered on my lips, I couldn't help but feel a surge of determination coursing through my veins. Dana was not just a prize to be won in some political game; she was the love of my life, the one person I couldn't bear to lose. No matter the cost, I would fight tooth and nail to keep her by my side, away from the clutches of those I despised the most.
"After all these years of rivalry, you may have the title of the most powerful Alpha in the world," I taunted, my voice dripping with disdain, "but I will not stand by and watch you live happily ever after with the woman I hold dear." With those words, I turned on my heel and strode purposefully toward my car, leaving him to ponder the weight of my determination.
