It was Jake. He entered but didn't say a word.

"I want to ask you something," he said, breaking the silence between us.

"What is it?" I asked, curious as to what he wanted to ask me.

"Do you think that we could be more than just Ava's parents?" he asked, looking at me with a mixture of hope and trepidation. "I know we're not mates, and I don't expect us to be. But I can't help but feel a connection to you, Milan. Do you feel it too?"
