CHAPTER 7 Act to Protect The Heir

“Alpha Adrian, I don’t think your daughter will be able to stay here!”

When the soul that had been separated from our bodies returned to us, piercing the chest cavity that protected our hearts and making us feel as if we were about to die, the principal said something that enraged my father.

My father’s blood boiled when he heard those words, and he jumped out of his seat, smacked the desk, and nearly broke it in half. When he looked at that old man, his blue eyes turned red as if he wanted to break his neck and his palms clenched.

There are fears in that old man’s eyes, but the fear of losing the Red-Blood pack’s sole heir outweighs the fear of my father’s rage toward him. For a long time, his pack had been our followers; they had become our allies, and the only God they believe in after the Moon Goddess is the heir of the Red-Blood pack, which will be my father and me in the future.

“Connor, who do you think you are?” My father was against him, that old man only wanted to save me from danger, and the principal has no other intention, he does not mean to argue with my father.

“How come you believe you can rule now?” My father inquired.

“Alpha Adrian, I’ve come to protect your heir… Your daughter is in danger, and I believe it is unsafe for her to be here” Mr. Connor responded quietly, attempting to calm my father’s rage at the time.

“I have the right to protect the Red-Blood’s heir as your follower” He declared.

“What gives you the impression that my daughter is in danger? Connor, what do you see up there? Tell me what makes you oppose me!” My father punched him with questions, but it didn’t stop the principal, he later explained to my father.

Something will come to me and that thing might get me killed; the reddish light Mr. Connor saw earlier is a sign that there will be bloodshed in this land, which has never happened before.

“The blood that will be spilled is the blood of those who attacked my family and me! Not our blood” My father declared arrogantly, his head in the clouds.

My father’s head was always in the clouds and nothing could bring him down except Luna Mira’s treatment of him; she was the only thing that kept my father awake at night, and with that arrogance, our pack became vulnerable.

“Alpha Adrian, please do what I said...” Mr. Connor demanded, but my father’s arrogance kept him in his stance, insisting that I stay to get my shape.

“She will stay no matter what! This is my final decision” My father exclaimed and he continued.

“I want her to get that shape so she can stand on the podium and become the next heir” He declared, but now my father began to smile, imagining how it would feel if the throne fell on me rather than the other, he then made his way to the window and looked out.

“And it is your responsibility to keep my daughter safe!” My father finished his sentence, his gaze fixed on the view outside.

“However, Adrian, what if we’re wrong? What if this decision led to the extinction of our species in the future? I swear to the Moon Goddess, this is not something we should ignore” Mr. Connor tried to convince him, but my father was adamant.

“Shhh! I told you this is my final decision… Elora will stay!” My father suppressed his words and silenced the principal, Mr. Connor then turned his gaze to me and stared at me with a pouty lip, he also shook his head; can’t believe my father’s decision to force me to stay in this place just to get my shape.

I smiled at Mr. Connor and tell him everything is going to be all right, even if I say nothing to him; the principal understand the sign I gave him. Mr. Connor then replied to me with a smile on his face; but it wasn’t a pleasing smile, it was a smile of dismayed.

My father then pulled out, turned around, and shook Mr. Connor’s hand, I see an unrelieved mimic on the principal’s face, he was anxious; knowing he will be responsible for me after this.

“Alright, Elora, it’s time to say goodbye” My father’s arm wide opened; he waited for me to embrace him.

“I will miss you, dad...” I said as I hugged him, tears began to fall from my eyes when I felt his last scent get into my nose.

“Nothing could harm you, Elora! My friend, Connor will keep an eye on you! He will not let your skin be scratched even just a speck” My father stated as we parted ways, he then caressed my hair and gave me a small smile but sweet, making my heart melt.

I nodded and smiled; feeling blue because I won’t see my father for an unknown amount of time. The final decision scratched my heart, but it also healed it because I finally had a lot of chances to see the Alpha, even if it was just in silence; maybe I will ask his name if I have the chance; a smirk appeared on my face when I realized it.

The three of us then exited the principal’s office; now I see there are so many students surrounding this place; they looked so excited, just like I was excited to start my day with the Alpha surrounding me.

Mr. Connor and I walked my father to the parking lot; at the time, I was walking next to him and holding his hand; I never felt ashamed to be daddy’s girl, even after I turned seventeen.

As we approach the parking lot, I notice Luna Mira and her son. At that moment, they did the Night-Blood farewell next to their car; Luna Mira sliced her finger with her own nail and let the blood drip out, placing her blood on her son’s forehead and drawing a line on it.

“That’s what happens when you get along with too many retarded” My father smirked when he saw them; he was about to get into the car at that time; we were still standing near it.

We shifted our focus from Luna Mira and her son to my father, who is soon leaving the training facility; Mr. Connor is getting ready to say goodbye, as am I.

“It’s great to see you, Alpha Adrian! I expected to see you and your wife in the future” Mr. Connor said as he hung his hand, shaking my father’s hand afterward.

“Keep an eye on my daughter! I will send my men soon” My father responded as he shook the principal’s hand. “Make sure you choke off those bastards who dare to touch my daughter” He ended and immediately got into the car.

Mr. Connor said nothing but nodded, and the two of us then watched my father’s car pull out of the driveway, followed by the black truck, which vanished into the road, now only the bags in my hands accompany me and Mr. Connor who stood next to me.

My heart became stuffy as I realized my father was no longer with me; it breaks my heart because I have never been separated from my parents like this before, but the Alpha turned the rain in my face into a burst of sunshine.

Mr. Connor walked away, telling me to wait in the corridor like another student for the next cue, and I just nodded when he explained. The principal also told me not to cross the facility gate because if I did, he would send his men to guard me wherever I went, which is something I don’t want to happen. After all, these city kids will mock me and I don't want to be labeled as a loser.

The Alpha approached me after seeing his mother's car pull away from the driveway; he was astounded to see Luna Mira gone as I was when my father left. His bags were on the ground; those bags were made of buckskin, looked priceless, and could only be afforded by the royal; sure the Night-Bloods aren’t your typical family.

“The Moon Goddess seemed to want us to be together...” The Alpha said as he extended his hand to me, expecting me to shake it; I was eager to feel it on my skin.

But I declined his offer to shake hands and instead picked up my bag from the ground. I was about to make my way into the building and wait like the new students, but the Alpha stopped me.

“I’m Drax”

His name finally escaped his lips, and now I know the Alpha’s name without having to ask, the unease that had been building inside of me vanished once I learned his name.

“Drax? Who named their kid like that?”
