CHAPTER 15: The False Keeper

“Let’s go, we need to move!”

My guardian angel kept pulling my hand and tried to drag me away from the chaotic scene, my wrist was in pain when she did that.

“No, I won’t leave without my mom”

I exclaimed as I tried to free my hand from Lara’s grasp; I was worried about my mother at that time because I knew my father would not think about her safety; he fought vampires not to save any of us, but to demonstrate his power.

My gaze darted around the ballroom, and I noticed my father and Mr. Connor fighting the vampires near the stage, while the guards spread out around the ballroom to save as many students as possible.

“Come on, we run out of time!” Lara pulled my hand; she was worried when she saw a vampire running toward us, turned out it was the last vampire we fought earlier.

“How could he be alive?” I wondered in dismay when I saw him coming.

“Fuck, he came for revenge” Lara mumbled, the two of us then ran away from the chaotic scene.

We have no idea how the middle-aged vampire came back from death after making sure he lost his life back then. When we ran, my hand wrapped around Lara’s, and thanks to the Moon Goddess, a guard appeared to save the two of us.

  “Get down!”

When the guard took out a silver sword and saw the two of us running away from the vampire, Lara and I immediately lowered our heads; we ran ducking under the guard’s arm and slipping onto the floor.

He fought the vampire with the same weapon, but his sword was made of silver, which is a weakness of vampires. Lara and I quickly get up off the floor, my heart racing as fast as it can at that time; not only do I think about my life, but I also think about my mother, whom I haven’t seen in a long time.

“My mom, we need to find her” I frowned; my hand hold Lara’s at that time and we both were about to leave the place.

“I will find her I promise! But now we have to get out of here” She responded. “Come on!” My guardian angel demanded and I can do nothing but nod in agreement.

I trust Lara completely; I believe she can do her job because I see her putting my life first; she doesn’t even think about her own life; all she has done here is protect me at all costs, and after keeping me safe, she had to do the job that shouldn't be hers: save my mother.

When the two of us fled the chaotic scene, I turned around to see the guard fighting the middle-aged vampire; the fight was fierce; that vampire was as strong as a guard even younger than him. He brushed aside the guard's silver sword and continued to fight for what he desired: me.

The vampire came to this location to find the treasure keeper, which they mistook for me; however, they missed the mark because I was not the treasure keeper, but only a candidate; the treasure is still safe in my father's hands.

When Lara and I almost reached the emergency exit, there were no more students attempting to enter; by that time, all of the students had left the building, and only a few guards and parents were fighting the vampires.

And when we got to the emergency exit, Lara shoved me, my body fell into the room, and my guardian angel told me to run while she looked for my mother. She promised to find my mother before I got to the exit.

I nodded and did what she said; hoping Lara would keep her word. I then entered the emergency exit building and was about to walk down the stairs but before I could, Alpha Drax and his Omega stormed in, his girl hitting my shoulder and causing me to fall.

“Ugh” I whimpered in pain as I held my body to not fall to the ground; his girl stared at me without guilt in her eyes.

“Gosh, my bad” She tried to help me but I get her hand away from me.

“I can do it by myself, thanks!” I said.

“Hey, are you all right?” Alpha Drax inquired me from the Omega behind; he pointed his gaze at me as he frowned; his eyebrow almost hit each other at the time he saw me.

I said nothing but nodded, I can’t stand to see him in the eye when he has someone else in his life; I also don’t want to talk to him anymore but I do want his attention that is why I shut my mouth, and give him a chance to talk more.

Instead of continuing to talk and ask how I was, Alpha Drax reached over the Omega’s hand and pulled her away from the scene, but before they did, Alpha Drax told me I could go with them, the three of us could look after each other, but I declined his offer, not only because I didn't want to, but also because I am not used to seeing him with someone like that; the two of them then left me alone at the emergency building, making me feel blue.

My throat was as dry as the desert that night, and I gulped in tension as I returned my gaze to the emergency door, hoping that Lara and my mother would appear. But I’m out of time, and the vampire could come after me at any time, so I keep walking down the stairs.

My step noises filled the emergency building as I ran full speed; there isn’t a single wolf as far as the eye can see, and they were all already outside, which terrified me because this building might contain vampires.

“Moon Goddess, please be with me” I prayed as I kept running through the stairs; my step noises accompany my way.

The ballroom is at the top of the building, and I have to descend hundreds of steps to reach the ground. At the time, the emergency building was as dark as a grave, and if only I had my wolf form, I would have changed myself and not struggled as much as I do now.

At that point, I couldn't even see the steps on my feet; I just felt every stair I passed without seeing it; I hope I didn't slip up and put myself in a more difficult phase. But fate had other plans; instead of finishing my last step, I stumbled into a pitch-dark room and fell; a familiar shape troubled me at the time.

I landed right on the top of the thing that caused me to fall, my face planting that thing, and how surprised I was when I took off my face from it; I landed on a dead body.

“Ah!” I screamed as loud as I can; getting off the dead body and falling backward, my heart pounding as if it was about to blow up, the blood in my body moving like a river; I could feel my blood going down to my feet, I was shaking.

The vampires hear my scream and one of them immediately storm into the emergency building the moment they realized I was trying to escape. I look at that vampire which was on the first step of the stair up there, quickly got up from the ground, and forgot about my fear when I see him coming.

“Cursed be all vampires and their descendants” I mumbled and started to run.

That vampire was chasing me; thanks to the Moon Goddess, I had already stepped on the ground, whereas he is still up there and it takes him minutes to reach the ground. At the time, I locked the door with an emergency ax I found next to the exit on the wall, broke the ax's protective glass, and quickly supported the door handle with it; at the very least, my effort slowed the vampire's pursuit of me.

“Fuck yeah” I exclaimed in relief when I manage to block the door.

With a smile on my face, I step in a full speed to find a way out and when I almost got there, the door that I locked earlier fell off the door frame and fly to the wall; my heart was about to get out of its place when I notice the vampire was the one who caused it.

“Holy shit” I mumbled as I turned my head back; I was still running at that moment.

The vampire held a bronze sword in his hand and stared at me as if he wanted to take my life; every breath I had now depended on him, and he will not let me go unless I find a way to hold on.

“You can’t go anywhere, the treasure keeper!”
