CHAPTER 18: If I Can’t Then Nobody Could

I wish I could defeat those vampires and prove to Drax that I don’t need him in my life, so there is no need for Alpha Drax who seemingly had a girlfriend to feel like he’s the only guy the women are fighting over in the world.

If I could, I would never have chosen to catch feelings with him but tonight I realize he is the only guy I want, and if I can’t have him, no one can. I realized that thing when I was dancing with him. His scent was so strong; signaling me that he is my mate.

With a heavy heart, the girl and I leave the location where Alpha Drax and the vampires were fighting; after determining Diane's decision to stay, the two of us sprint to the woods near the training facility.

As we both lifted away from the battlefield to save ourselves, a broken heart covered me; the jealousy caused by Drax and Diane’s closeness drove me insane; it never stop haunting me.

Our way full speed getting into the woods, by that time no vampire is chasing us and the situation became calmer because we thought we are safe. Hopefully, the vampire didn’t reach the woods.

When we both were on our way getting into the woods even deeper, I see my guardian angel; she was helping my mother to walk.

  “Mom”

I nervously ran over to them, pulled my mother gently, and placed her on my lap.

  “What’s happening?”

I asked Lara; asked for clarification as to why my mother could end up in this state while hugging my mother with tears; she did not pass out at that time but I was still worried.

Lara told me she found my mother drunk in a room not far from the ballroom, she found her face down and bleeding but Lara has no idea why my mother didn’t explain what caused her injured until now.

“I’m fine, honey, it was just a little accident and Lara never let those vampires touch me! This wound doesn’t come from those creatures, I slipped and broke the wine glass I was holding” My mother explained.

Her explanation relieved me a little, but it didn't take away my concern for her; even though it was only a small wound on her forehead, my mother still required treatment, and we needed to get her out of there as soon as possible; we needed to keep her safe until the situation returned to normal.

After telling them that we needed to leave as soon as possible, I rested my mother’s arm on my shoulder to help her walk. The four of us then went into the woods and the girl led us to the shelter.

It is been half an hour the four of us walking through the woods, there is none of single light illuminating the place, only the moonlight accompanying us that night. My drunken mother asked us to stop for a break; we stopped right at a huge tree after that.

I carefully removed my mother’s arm from my shoulder and helped her to lean against the tree while Lara and the new girl were on duty to monitor the situation; they were standing not far from the position where my mother and I rested.

“Are we safe?” I asked Lara in a low voice; not wanting anyone to hear us, Lara left where she was standing and came to me.

“I guess so, but we have to move as soon as possible! I am afraid the vampire will track us” She declared in dismay; her heart pounding the same goes for me.

The new girl lifted off from the place she was standing, making her way toward the three of us, and started. “We need to move!” She demanded; the new girl looked dismayed when she spoke.

Without asking the reason why she was dismayed, Lara and I immediately help my mother to get up, the four of us then continue our way to the shelter that the girl told us about.

“How can we hang when none of us have weapons?” I started to talk while we were walking. “They had bronze weapons!” I said worriedly. “And my mother is injured” I was about to cry but I hold my tears.

“Honey, don’t worry! I will transform and beat those beasts if they after us” My mother tried to settle me down even if she could not even stand by herself.

“Yes, I can transform too, don’t worry, I beat those guys earlier, you saw that” Lara responded and continued. “Four is enough to beat them” She ended.

Our conversation ended when the four of us arrive at our destination, how surprised I was when I spot there are no one there. The new girl told us they probably hide underground and that made us relieved, we tried to think positively as much as we can when the danger could come to us at any time.

“Are you sure they’re down there?” I asked again to make sure and the girl tensely nodded; she was also not sure about what she said but to get the answer, we have to find out by ourselves.

We step down the stair after opening the entrance of the shelter, my mother’s arm was still wrapped around my neck and it made it difficult for me to walk when I don’t even see the step.

“Do you guys have some light or something?” The new girl who led the way inquired; she was in the front of the line.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have any of them” Lara responded as she kept walking through the stairs.

“I am sure they were here” The new girl declared. “There is no way they found another destination...” She said.

And when the four of us reach the basement; there is no one in there. How surprised I was when finding out the place was empty but relief enveloped me when I found all of us were safe and the vampires had lost our track.

We took some rest in the basement; my mother was sleeping so she could regain her power after being drunk, and the rest of us were plotting a better hiding place. The new girl explained to us about Scarlett-Polis, she was born in this state which is why none one here knows Scarlett-Polis rather than her.

Her name is Alexandra, she is seventeen years old and her parents send her to the training facility so she can lead her pack in the future. Lucky her, she got her form on her birthday.

Scarlett-Polis has a portal in the middle of the state church; that portal could be opened, allowing vampires to enter our world; Alexandra stated that the only ones who can open it are our kind, the werewolves.

Alexandra’s explanation reminded my guardian angel of something; her pupil was delighted and she jumped from her back, Lara got up from the ground after listening to the new girl’s explanation.

The thing in her head was a thing that she was about to tell me at the party back then, knowing it was that, I immediately get off the ground and look at her, followed by Alexandra who was sitting on the ground.

“What happened? Did you know something about it?” Alexandra inquired as she pointed her gaze at Lara who was looking at us in dismay.

And when Lara was about to let us know about what was inside her mind all this time and spill the tea, a sound coming from the outside of the shelter stopped her to open her mouth; that was a sound of an opening door.

“We are not alone!” Alexandra tensely declared as she felt someone’s arrival.

I immediately wake my mother up afterward by hitting her shoulder gently the moment we notice someone is coming to this place.

“You feel better?” I asked her in a low voice after waking her up; my mother nodded in response.

“We need to move” Lara whispered and thankfully, my mother now can walk on her own.

The four of us rushing leave the basement, without making any noises we walk toward the exit of the bunker after straining the stair step. By that time, the place was not that dark anymore because the dawn is coming and the vampires will disappear.

“I think they came here to hide...” Alexandra said. “The sun will rise in hours” She declared.

“Good they found this place, so we can get them while the sun hit the world” My mother stated as we all kept walking in low noises. “They’re weaker when the sun is here!” She said.

We finally get to the exit, and the noises from the guests are no longer audible, which makes the four of us relieved because we thought they didn't notice we were there.

When Lara opened the exit door, something almost made us see the Moon Goddess when we all reached the outside of the shelter; my heart was about to burst at the time, but it turned out to be a female teacher attempting to enter the shelter.

Lara recognizes the teacher and she followed us after meeting us at the exit; being in a group is preferable to going it alone. We then sat in the woods, waiting for the world to awaken.

After more than an hour, dawn broke, and there was no sign of the vampire that had surrounded the training facility. We all then continued on our way, returning to the facility.

The place was quiet; it had been chaos the night before, with people screaming and swords clashing. As far as we can tell, the only sounds are of leaves being blown by the wind filling the place at that moment.

Our step noises filled the area; we came to a halt right in front of the training facility, inspecting it before deciding to enter.

We were afraid that the vampire was still inside the building, and there were no wolves in the building, so none of us dared to open our mouths at the time.

“There are so many dead wolves inside the building” The teacher declared and it made the atmosphere tenser.

“How did you know about it? I saw all people leave the building before the chaos hit, including students and parents, no one get killed!” My mother responded; her voice was smaller than it used to be, and we were talking as low as we can.

“I saw it, so many guards dead in the accident” The teacher replied and continued. “That’s why this place is still under control” She declared.

“Well, guess we need to find a car and leave Scarlett-Polis after everything is get back to normal” My mother suggested and all of us were agree with it.

“Yes, we can get back to Eden Spring!” I said; they all nodded in agreement.

Without wasting any more time we all run to the parking lot, looking for a car to escape from Scarlett-Polis and we found a nice car which familiar to my eyes.

“The door is locked” Alexandra declared as she tried to open the door; her hand strongly pulled that door.

“That’s not how you do it” My mother walked closer and chuckled; she looked around the spot before continuing.

My mother hit the car windshield with her elbow and broke the window next to the driver seat, she then pull the inside door handle and open the car door.

  “We are ready to go”
