LYDIA's POV
I examined the locket I was wearing and constantly checked when it will release some kind of superpowers. Daddy said that it will help me but….how?
"Why are you looking at the necklace like that? Is something wrong with it?" My father asked while my mother simply snored. I guess she fell asleep at some point and now it was just me and my father.
"No, I am just waiting for its superpowers. How do they come out?" I questioned innocently.
"No, my darling. The superpower is in you this necklace will only help you to bring it out when you need it the most," He replied.
"When I need the most…" I whispered to myself and just then we all heard a commotion outside.
My father immediately got ready and looked outside.
"Baby, stay here and no matter what happens do not come out," my father reacted and walked out of the room.
"What…..but," I started but my mother carefully picked me up and asked me to hide behind the clock shelf and she just left.
I waited for quite sometime there and have no idea when I did I fell asleep while hiding in that position.
But I felt someone lifting me and I instantly jumped, instantly on high alert, "Hey baby, we have to leave you have to stay silent," my father whispered.
"Where are we going?" I whispered.
"Somewhere safe," he answered in a hurried tone.
I noticed the bloody marks on his face and his body and shuddered, I don't know what was going on but sensing the serious expression on his face I could tell that something terrible had struck our kingdom.
I clutched my necklace tightly hoping to gain some strength from it.
My father dropped me at one of the secret pathways that only a few people knew about.
"You need to leave and hide, I will get you as soon as I am done here." He whispered urgently.
"Don't leave me daddy." I pleaded.
"I am not leaving you, I'll be back soon." He said and vanished, the darkness that surrounded us hinted at the grave danger lurking outside, soon I saw myself being surrounded by a dark tornado and when everything became normal and he finally came for me, I saw on old version of my father.
I ran towards him and realized that I have grown too, I am not in my little body anymore while I tried to reach him many people tried to block my way.
First it was the Alpha of North Light Pack and then the Luna, lastly it was Manu and his friends. They tried to touch me, abuse me, belittle me but when I finally collapsed on the ground, tired of everything I clutched my necklace once again but this time not to gain strength from it but to throw it away.
I was done seeking solace from an unliving and unworthy necklace.
By a hand stopped me, "Don't. Don't do it. This is the only way I can find you again."
The voice belonged to my father and my hand quivered contemplating if I should do it.
"You left me to die, you never came back. I waited for you for so long…..I had to go through so much pain and abuse but you were never there for me and this so called necklace did nothing to protect me from my nightmares. I don't want this anymore and I certainly don't want you in my life. I can survive on my own." I said, my voice filled with a mix of everything.
Sadness, betrayal, exhaustion and a little bit of indifference.
I don't know if I am ready to ever accept him or anybody in my life, I don't know if I will ever be able to trust someone. The innocence in me is forever lost now.
I stepped away from him and tried to remove the necklace from my neck, I felt like it was suffocating me but this time two hands stopped me, I tried to shook them away but they were too strong.
"Leave me alone, I don't want to be a part of any of this." I said but they didn't listen.
"We only obey the royals and we only take orders from the king." I looked up and find those same faces who saved me.
As soon as they tried to drag me away I woke up and realized that it was again just a dream.
But it felt so real that I had to think if I am still in another dimension.
I looked around and found myself in the same room I woke up in with the same men who were here earlier.
They were still discussing something and because my senses were getting better now I could hear them. So….this time instead of running away I tried to listen in on their conversation.
"I am telling you that we need to move faster Evan," the other guy said.
"But how did they find out?" The guy named Evan questioned.
"We'll think about that later but for now we need to take princess Lydia to the king. We don't know how many of them are coming after us or more specifically princess Lydia." They both paused for a while.
"This time we'll have to hide our scents and maybe we should avoid going through forest, it will be the first place they'll check if they find out that we ran away." Evan suggested.
"You're right, I don't know how they discovered about princess's existence, but this time we can't let them succeed in their plans. I am sure this time if they catch they'll try to finish what they couldn't before." The other brother said.
"Yes, and they'll have to go through us before they can touch Princess Lydia. I will give my life to save her," Evan said with sincerity In his voice.
But the only thing that I understood from their conversation was that someone was after me, and they'll do anything to protect me. Their loyalty to the king and their unwavering commitment to my safety left me conflicted, torn between the desire for freedom and the need for protection.
I still am not sure if I am that person they are looking for but I know that for now I am safe with them, so I guess I'll have to stay here until I find a way to leave all of them for good.
