EVAN'S POV
As the day of the Heir Assessment approached, I found myself consumed by a flurry of preparations. The weight of responsibility rested heavily on my shoulders, driving me to ensure that everything was in place for Lydia's safety and success. Me and my brother together worked as a team to ensure that she is protected during the assessment. I am sure once everyone finds out that she is the main throne heir, some people might try to harm her so after much discussion I came up with a plan with my brother and he is completely on board with it, now all it is left is to discuss this with Lydia.
Approaching Lydia with purpose, I broached the delicate topic of changing her identity for the assessment. I could sense her hesitation, her uncertainty about the path ahead, but I also saw the determination shining in her eyes. She was not the same fragile Lydia I found, she was different and I loved how focused she was and more importantly, even after being away from home she didn't lose her morals or family values. I admired this quality about her.
So much was at stake, and I felt a bit hurt about the fact that she refused to address our mate bond but maybe it was due to the pressure she was under.
"Lydia," I began, my voice gentle but firm, "we need to discuss your identity for the assessment. It's crucial for your safety that we take every precaution."
Lydia's expression shifted, her brows furrowing in thought as she absorbed my words. I could tell that she was under a lot of stress already. I could see the gears turning in her mind, the weight of the decision settling upon her shoulders.
"I understand," Lydia replied, her voice steady but tinged with doubt. "But what do you suggest?"
Taking a moment to gather my thoughts, I explained my plan to create a new identity for her, one that would allow her to move discreetly and avoid unwanted attention. I could see the gravity of the situation dawning on her, the realization of the sacrifices she would need to make for the sake of her people.
She didn't say much and simply agreed, I felt better when I realized that she trusted me enough to make this decision on her behalf.
In the days leading up to the assessment, I silently watched over my mate, my concern for her safety never far from my mind. I made sure she had everything she needed, anticipating her needs before she even had to ask.
She already had a lot on her shoulders, I wanted to lessen her burden as much as I could.
As the Heir Assessment began, my mind buzzed with a mixture of anticipation and concern. I knew that the coming days would be fraught with danger, especially for Lydia. Her status as a princess made her a target, and I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in the pit of his stomach.
Watching Lydia prepare for the assessment, I couldn't help but feel a swell of admiration for her courage. Despite the challenges she faced, she remained resolute, her determination shining like a beacon in the darkness.
"What did she say and what is the next step?" My brother questioned while we both watched her practicing.
"Not much, just that she trusts me enough to make that decision on her behalf," I answered with a hint of pride in my voice.
Saying those words out loud gave me immense pleasure.
"They have announced the terms and conditions for the first task," my brother informed and I nodded.
Of course I knew everything about it and I also knew that the nobles were up to something, they were too silent and that in my opinion is not a good sign.
This silence indicated that a storm is approaching.
"Yes, many participants from various classes are gathering." I updated him.
"And that's not a good sign." He completed and I nodded in affirmation.
"We need to be more careful and should keep our ears and eyes open. Something doesn't seem right." I said.
"What do you mean?" He questioned.
"The nobles, especially Jason. Something is up with him, he can't participate directly but he also won't let Lydia participate. I am certain that he is planning something, but is too silent on the topic right now." I warned.
"Are you saying that he is planning something?" Brandon questioned.
"I am saying that the whole counsel body is corrupted and many of the nobles want to eliminate Lydia not just from the assessment but from everywhere. That's why they never gave up." I said.
"You're right. What do you supposed we should do?" he questioned.
"I am thinking of discussing this with Oleg, after all he is the only one after Uncle Rufus and our father we can trust." I answered.
He nodded and I walked away but not before checking on my mate for the last time today.
I knew that we needed to tread carefully, lest we'll fall prey to the dangers that lurked around every corner.
Joining a group of Omegas on a container, Lydia's fragility was evident to Evan. He could see the weight of her responsibilities pressing down on her, threatening to overwhelm her fragile resolve. Yet, despite her vulnerability, Lydia remained steadfast, her determination to succeed unwavering.
Throughout the assessment preparation, I remained by Lydia's side, offering her the support and guidance she needed to navigate the challenges that lay ahead. I knew that she relied on us, and I was determined to prove myself worthy of her trust.
As the time for the assessment drew near, I made sure to brief Lydia on the plan again and again. She needed to assemble at the main field with the other Omegas for her first task. From there, she would join a group of Omegas on a container, that will be secretly transported to the assessment site.
I couldn't help but worry about her safety as she embarked on this journey. The thought of her facing the challenges ahead alone filled me with a sense of unease. But I also knew that she was strong and capable, and I had faith in her ability to overcome whatever obstacles that stood in her way.
With a silent prayer for Lydia's safety, I watched as she set off towards the main field, her determination evident in every step she took. As she disappeared from view, I felt a swell of pride mixed with a tinge of anxiety. I could only hope that Lydia would emerge from this assessment unscathed, ready to take her place as the rightful heir to the throne.
