CHAPTER 19 CHAOS IN THE FOREST

  BRANDON'S POV

The morning sun cast a golden glow over the clearing where the first challenge of the Heir Assessment was set to take place. Excitement crackled in the air as Lydia and the other candidates gathered, each one eager to prove themselves worthy of the Lycan throne.

"Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed nobles and Omegas welcome to the commencement of the first Heir Assessment."

Murmurs of anticipation fill the air, everyone looked around and waited for the royal herald to continue.

Herald announced. "Today marks the beginning of a series of challenges that will test the strength, skill, and leadership abilities of our candidates. These assessments will determine who among them is worthy of ascending to the throne of the Lycan kingdom."

A ripple of excitement runs through the crowd.

He continued, "But before we proceed, it is imperative that we outline the rules and regulations that will govern this assessment."

"But what's the first challenge going to be?" Someone from the audience questioned.

  Everyone held their breath.

"Ah, an excellent question. The first challenge will require our candidates to demonstrate their ability to work as a team. They will be tasked with defeating the formidable King Bear, a fearsome creature that lurks within the depths of the forest." He replied.

"Defeating the King Bear? That sounds like quite the challenge." One of the omegas stated.

"Indeed, it will not be an easy task. But it is one that our candidates must face head-on if they are to prove themselves worthy of the throne."

"And what happens if they fail?" Surprisingly one of the nobles asked.

"Failure is not an option. Those who are unable to complete the challenges will be disqualified from the assessment. Only the strongest and most capable candidates will advance to the next round." He warned.

A hush falls over the crowd as the gravity of the situation sinks in.

"With that said, let us begin. Candidates, prepare yourselves. The first challenge awaits."

As I watched from the sidelines, hidden amongst the crowd of onlookers, my heart swelled with pride at the sight of Lydia standing tall and resolute. Despite the weight of her responsibilities and the uncertainty of the challenges that lay ahead, she radiated a quiet confidence that was impossible to ignore among everyone.

Even in disguise, her aura screamed power and dominance. She looked like she was born to rule.

But as the challenge began and the candidates were divided into teams, I couldn't shake the gnawing sense of worry that tugged at my mind. Defeating the King Bear would require strength, skill, and teamwork – qualities that Lydia possessed in abundance, but which would be put to the test in the heat of battle. And I am afraid that if her true strength is revealed to others, it'll be even more dangerous.

As the teams set off into the forest, I kept a close eye on Lydia, my heart pounding with every step she took. With her identity switched to that of an Omega from the Capital Fraya according to her documents, she was at a disadvantage, but I knew she was more than capable of holding her own.

The forest echoed with the sounds of rustling leaves and snapping twigs as the teams ventured deeper into the wilderness. I held my breath, waiting for the first sign of trouble, praying silently that Lydia and her teammates would emerge victorious.

And then, just as I began to fear the worst, a roar echoed through the trees, followed by the sound of crashing branches and pounding footsteps.

  LYDIA'S POV

As I landed in the dense forest, surrounded by towering trees and thick underbrush, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease settle over me. The air was thick with tension, and I knew that this assessment would be far from easy.

As I navigated through the forest, trying to stay focused on the task at hand, I couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. And then, out of the corner of my eye, I caught sight of Heckim, one of my competitors for the heir assessment. He advanced towards me as if I was the target of his assignment and not the King Bear.

Heckim's eyes lingered on me in a way that made my skin crawl, and I instinctively took a step back, my heart racing with fear. His advances were unwelcome, and I knew that I needed to find a way to distance myself from him before things escalated further. We both were surrounded by dark forest and it reminded me of the night when Manu and his friends tried to follow me.

As if sensing my unease, Branden appeared beside me, his presence a comforting anchor in the midst of chaos. With a stern glare, he stepped between Heckim and me, his protective instincts kicking into overdrive.

"Mr Heckim, back off," Branden's voice was firm, his words leaving no room for argument. "I don't think she doesn't appreciate your advances, and neither do I."

He scoffed, his expression turning sour as he realized that his attempts at flirtation were not well-received. But instead of backing down, he only seemed to grow more agitated, his resentment towards the nobility bubbling to the surface.

"You think you can just come in here and steal the spotlight, and I was not flirting with her I am only trying to make friends?" Heckim's voice was laced with so much bitterness that his attempts to defend himself failed miserably.

"You are just an omega, you just mind your own business, I am an Alpha and you are no one in front of me."

The tension in the air thickened as Heckim's words sparked discontent among the other Omegas. Murmurs of disagreement rippled through the group, and before long, chaos erupted in the forest.

But even as the situation spiralled out of control, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude towards Branden. His intervention had saved me from a potentially dangerous encounter, and I knew that I owed him my thanks.
