LYDIA'S POV
As the chaos subsided and Heckim's bodyguards subdued the agitated Omegas, a heavy silence fell over the forest. I couldn't help but feel a sense of disillusionment wash over me as I surveyed the scene before me.
The disrespect shown towards the nobility was palpable, and it was clear that many of the Omegas had lost faith in the higher ranks of society. The corruption that plagued our kingdom had bred resentment and mistrust, turning what should have been a fair competition into a battleground of egos and power struggles.
As I watched Heckim strut around with his entourage of bodyguards, a bitter taste filled my mouth. His arrogance was a stark reminder of everything that was wrong with our society, of how those in positions of power often abused their authority for their own gain.
But amidst the chaos and uncertainty, a fire began to burn within me. If I were given the chance to rule, I vowed to do everything in my power to restore our kingdom to its former glory. I couldn't stand idly by while corruption ran rampant and the people suffered under the tyranny of the nobles.
With determination coursing through my veins, I made a silent promise to myself and to the kingdom. I would be a ruler who led with integrity and compassion, who listened to the needs of the people and worked tirelessly to create a better future for all.
But for now, I knew that I had to focus on the task at hand. The first round of the assessment was far from over, and I needed to prove myself worthy of the title of heir. With Branden by my side and a newfound resolve burning in my heart, I was ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
"I can help you in this round, this round is about teamwork and I think we'll make a great team if you come with me," Heckim said and offered a friendly hand towards me.
I looked at him in doubt, not knowing if he genuinely wanted to play or was he here just to play with me. I couldn't ask for help from Brandon because that would blew his cover.
"Um….you should ask other team members alone." I hesitated.
He is an Alpha and I don't really have good history with Alpha so it was hard for me to trust him.
"They are already coming….I mean I have two cars, they all are coming in another one," he said and I looked at him in doubt.
In another car?
Was this even allowed?
But I needed to stay with my team if I want to reach king bear and defeat him.
So I agreed to go with him.
As the off-road vehicle rumbled through the dense forest, Heckim's voice filled the air with boasts about himself and his pack.
"You know, Lydia, my pack is one of the strongest in the entire kingdom," Heckim boasted, his voice tinged with arrogance. "We've won countless battles and conquered territories that others could only dream of."
He glanced at me, expecting a response, but I remained silent, my attention fixed on the task ahead.
"I'm the alpha of the West River Pack, you know," Heckim continued, his chest puffing out with pride. "Girls usually can't resist my charm, but you seem different. I like a challenge."
I offered no response, my gaze focused on the passing trees as we sped through the forest.
"You're lucky to have me as your partner in this assessment," Heckim declared, his tone dripping with self-assurance. "With me by your side, victory is practically guaranteed."
Despite his attempts to impress me, I remained impassive, my mind consumed by thoughts of the upcoming challenge and the safety of my team.
But Heckim was undeterred, continuing to boast about his strength and prowess as an alpha as we journeyed deeper into the forest. His words washed over me, barely registering as I mentally prepared myself for the trials that lay ahead.
But despite my preoccupation, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in the pit of my stomach. Heckim's arrogance and overconfidence were palpable, and I couldn't help but wonder if his reckless behavior would ultimately put us all in danger.
As the off-road vehicle pressed deeper into the forest, a sense of unease settled over me. I couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss, and the eerie atmosphere only heightened my apprehension.
"Are you feeling alright, Lydia?" Heckim's voice broke through my thoughts, but I barely registered his concern as I scanned our surroundings for any signs of danger.
"I'm fine," I replied, my voice strained with tension. "Just trying to stay alert."
"That's what I am saying, you don't have to worry as long as you are with me, trust me I'll protect you." Heckim replied but I knew that people like him can't be trusted so basically I was on my own.
The forest seemed to close in around us, the dense foliage casting long shadows that danced ominously in the fading light. Every rustle of leaves and snap of twigs set my heart racing, my senses on high alert for any potential threats.
Then, I noticed them – claw marks etched into the bark of nearby trees, half-destroyed plants strewn across the forest floor. The bear's presence was unmistakable, and I knew we were drawing closer to its den with each passing moment.
As the Bear's territory closed in on us, my thoughts turned to my missing teammates and the looming uncertainty of our situation. Where were they? And where was the other vehicle? The absence of any sign of our companions only added to the growing sense of dread that gnawed at my insides, leaving me feeling more alone and vulnerable than ever before.
Amidst the chaos, Heckim's voice cut through the air, filled with bravado as he boasted about his prowess in protecting me if the need arose. But his words rang hollow in my ears, and I couldn't bring myself to believe his empty promises. Despite his attempts to reassure me, I knew I couldn't rely on someone whose intentions were clouded by arrogance and self-interest.
A sudden roar shattered the silence, and my blood ran cold as the King Bear ambushed our vehicle with startling ferocity. The ground shook beneath us as the massive creature lunged forward, its eyes blazing with primal fury.
