LYDIA'S POV
"Lydia? What's happening? Where are you?" Cathy's voice echoed in my mind, filled with concern.
I quickly explained our situation, the layers of illusion, the demon, and our continued entrapment despite defeating it.
"Don't worry, Lydia. I got you," she assured me. "I'll find a way to break the spell."
Minutes felt like hours as we waited for Cathy's intervention. The oppressive silence of the void pressed down on us, but knowing Cathy was working on a solution provided a glimmer of hope.
Suddenly, a warm light began to spread through the darkness, dispelling the void. The oppressive atmosphere lifted, replaced by a sense of lightness and freedom.
"It's working," Evan said, his voice tinged with relief.
"We're almost there," Brandon added, his eyes brightening as the light grew stronger.
Finally, the void shattered completely, and we found ourselves back in the real world, gasping for breath. The oppressive illusion was gone, replaced by the familiar surroundings of the assessment chamber.
"Lydia," I heard Cathy's voice, clear and comforting.
"Cathy, thank you so much for helping us," I expressed my gratitude, feeling a profound sense of relief.
"You don't have to thank me, but be careful," she warned. "I will send some more help. I can sense that dark magic was involved in trapping you in the illusion, and I'm afraid whoever did it is still going to hurt you."
"Thank you again, Cathy," I said, appreciating her vigilance and support.
"Just stay safe," she urged before our connection ended.
I turned to Evan and Brandon, their faces reflecting a mix of relief and concern. "Evan, Brandon, we need to be careful. Cathy is sending her team to help us, but she said that someone is still after us."
They both nodded, determination and resolve hardening their features. "We'll be ready for whatever comes," Evan said, his voice steady.
"Absolutely," Brandon added. "We've faced worse and come out stronger. We won't let anyone hurt you, Lydia."
I felt a surge of warmth at their unwavering support. "We'll stick together and stay vigilant. Whoever is behind this won't know what hit them."
Coming back from that world of hallucination made me feel like I was born again, I felt light and better than before. "Lydia, you need to see this," Evan said urgently. I walked towards the place where he was standing. When we both peeked outside, we realized that the base was surrounded by Jason's men. "Evan, we are outnumbered," I stated, and he nodded grimly. All of us were thinking how to get out of this situation, but there seemed to be no way out. "Jason is now desperate. He wants to kill all of us together to cover up his tracks of trapping you," Brandon said, his voice low and tense. "I just heard a few men talking outside, and they were discussing Jason's plan," he further added.
I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of our predicament. "We need a plan, and fast. We can't take them all head-on."
Evan's eyes met mine, his expression determined. "We'll have to use our strengths and the element of surprise. If we can create a distraction, we might be able to slip past them."
"We can try, but I'm not sure that's going to work," Brandon said, his brow furrowed with concern.
"Why?" I questioned him, my heart sinking slightly.
"Jason is involved with witches. He hired a few witches to trap you in the hallucination, but they all died because we were able to break the illusion. We're not sure if there are more," Brandon informed us, his voice grave.
"Then let's fight together. That's all we can do for now. Cathy said that she is sending help. Until then, all we can do is fight," I said, my voice steady despite the tension. Evan and Brandon both nodded in agreement.
We stepped outside and instantly shifted into our wolf forms, taking Jason's men by surprise. Brandon's and Evan's years of training came in handy as they dealt with multiple men at once, their movements fluid and precise. I struggled a little, but due to my Lycan strength, I managed to take down a few of them as well.
Despite our efforts, we couldn't deny that we were still outnumbered. At some point, we were bound to get tired.
As we fought, Evan stayed close, his presence a comforting force amidst the chaos. "Lydia, stay close to me. We'll cover each other's backs," he said through our mind link.
Brandon, fighting off another group of attackers, shot me a quick, reassuring glance.
Even when their lives were at stake, they were thinking about me, their eyes never leaving my side. It gave me strength but also a sense of dread. If something happened to them in this fight, I didn't think I would ever be able to survive. With that thought steeling my resolve, I prepared myself and fought as hard as I could.
The battlefield was a chaotic blur of snarls, growls, and flashes of movement. My claws slashed through the air, each strike driven by a fierce determination to protect my mates. Evan and Brandon were relentless, their powerful forms a blur of motion as they took down enemies with a precision that came from years of training.
