LYDIA'S POV
At one point, I saw Evan struggling with a particularly vicious opponent. Without a second thought, I lunged forward, sinking my teeth into the attacker and pulling him off balance. Evan glanced at me, gratitude and admiration shining in his eyes before he finished off the fallen foe.
Brandon was a whirlwind of fury, his strength and speed unmatched. But even he had his limits. I saw him falter, a deep gash marring his side. I rushed to his aid, my heart pounding with fear and adrenaline.
The battle raged on, and it felt like an eternity.
Suddenly I heard a scream with voice full of anger and rage and I turned to find Jason with blood in his eyes.
I shifted towards him and he smirked.
"Scared? You should be. This is your last day after all," Jason said, arrogance dripping from his voice as he sneered at us.
"Are you sure?" I retorted, my voice steady and filled with defiance. "Maybe this is your last day on earth. Snakes like you don't deserve to live among us."
His eyes flashed with anger at my words. "You think you can defeat me? You're outnumbered and outmatched."
I stepped forward, not letting his words intimidate me. "We've faced worse and survived. Your tricks and treachery end today."
Evan and Brandon flanked me, their presence a solid wall of support, finally, I heard Cathy's reinforcements closing in. The sounds of their footsteps and the sight of them charging into the fray gave us a much-needed boost.. Jason's men shifted uneasily, sensing the shift in the air. They might have had the numbers, but our determination and unity were our true strength.
"You're delusional," Jason spat. "You're all going to die here."
"Not if we have anything to say about it," Brandon growled, his eyes locked on Jason with a fierce intensity.
"We're not afraid of you," Evan added, his voice steady. "We fight for each other, for our pack. That's something you'll never understand."
Jason's smirk faltered for a moment, replaced by a flicker of doubt. He raised his hand, signalling his men to attack. "Enough talk. Finish them!"
As his men charged, we braced ourselves for the onslaught. Despite the odds, we fought with everything we had.
We fought with all our might, the clash of our bodies and the snarls of combat filling the air. Jason was relentless, his eyes wild with fury as he directed his men. But we held our ground, determination fueling every move. In the chaos, I caught a glimpse of Cathy sneaking behind Jason, her movements stealthy and precise.
She signaled me, a quick gesture that let me know she had a plan. Trusting her implicitly, I kept Jason busy, engaging him in a fierce battle. Our wolves clashed, teeth and claws tearing at each other. Jason was strong, but my resolve was stronger.
Cathy began to chant something, her voice low and melodic, weaving ancient magic into the air. I could feel the energy shifting around us, the very fabric of reality beginning to change. Jason's focus flickered, his eyes darting towards Cathy, but I lunged at him, forcing his attention back to me.
"What are you doing?" he snarled, panic creeping into his voice.
"Ending this," I replied, pouring all my strength into the fight. My claws tore at him, my teeth snapping dangerously close to his neck. I just needed to buy Cathy a little more time.
Then, with a sudden rush of energy, a portal opened in the air behind Jason. Swirling with a dark, otherworldly light, it pulsed with power. Jason's eyes widened in horror as he realized what was happening.
I used my strength to kick Jason, sending him tumbling into the portal. Several of his men followed, caught in the swirling vortex before it closed with a deafening clap. The remaining men, witnessing their leader's fate, turned and fled, their morale shattered.
"Cathy, thank the goddess you're here. We wouldn't have been able to defeat them alone." I rushed to her and enveloped her in a grateful hug.
"It's okay, Lydia. You can always count on me, and you know that." She smiled warmly, and I nodded, feeling a deep sense of relief.
"But where did you send him?" I asked, curiosity and a touch of apprehension in my voice.
"I just gave him a taste of his own medicine."
"That means...?" I trailed off, piecing together her implication.
"Yes," Cathy said with a smirk. "I trapped him in his own hallucinations, and I don't think he has the guts to fight his own mind."
I couldn't think of a better punishment. The poetic justice of it made me smile. "That's great," I said, feeling a sense of closure. I hugged Cathy goodbye, her presence a comforting reminder of the bond we shared.
Turning to Evan and Brandon, I hugged them both without hesitation, without any fear holding me back. The warmth of their embrace was a stark contrast to the cold fear I had felt before. I was free now, free to do whatever I wanted, unburdened by the past.
Evan pulled back slightly, his eyes filled with a mix of pride and affection. "You were incredible, Lydia. We couldn't have done this without you."
Brandon nodded, a soft smile playing on his lips. "We're stronger together, and we always will be."
