CHAPTER 81 Betrayal In Disguise

  LYDIA'S POV

As Alpha Chloe and I rejoined the party, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment. The atmosphere seemed even more vibrant, or perhaps it was my newfound optimism after securing a potential alliance with Alpha Chloe that made everything seem brighter.

The music played by the live band echoed through the hall, and the laughter and chatter of the guests created a lively buzz. I could see clusters of Alphas and their Betas engaged in animated conversations, the clinking of glasses adding to the celebratory mood.

"Princess Lydia," a deep voice called out, interrupting my thoughts. I turned to see Alpha Marcus approaching with a friendly smile. "May I have this dance?"

I hesitated for a moment, then nodded. "Of course, Alpha Marcus. It would be my pleasure."

As we moved to the dance floor, I could feel the eyes of the guests on us. Alpha Marcus was a seasoned leader, and dancing with him felt like an opportunity to further solidify my place among these powerful leaders.

"You dance well, Princess," he said, leading me gracefully.

"Thank you, Alpha Marcus. It's a skill I've had to perfect over the years," I replied with a smile. "I must say, your pack's reputation precedes you. I've heard much about your successful agricultural initiatives."

He nodded, a glint of pride in his eyes. "Yes, we've worked hard to innovate and improve our farming techniques. It's not just about strength in battle; a pack thrives when its members are well-fed and healthy."

"That's impressive. I believe such initiatives could benefit our kingdom as well," I said thoughtfully. "Perhaps we could discuss a potential collaboration?"

Alpha Marcus smiled warmly. "I'd be delighted to. It's always a pleasure to work with forward-thinking leaders."

After our dance, I found myself partnered with Alpha Elena. She was as graceful on the dance floor as she was in her leadership.

"You handle yourself well, Princess," she remarked, her tone more respectful than before.

"Thank you, Alpha Elena. I've had to learn quickly," I said, twirling with her lead. "I was particularly interested in hearing about your defensive strategies. Your pack's ability to fend off rogue attacks is remarkable."

She nodded. "We've had our fair share of challenges, but unity and strategic planning have been our strengths. An alliance could certainly help us share these strategies with your kingdom."

"I would love to learn more about that," I replied earnestly. "Your expertise could be invaluable."

The conversations and dances continued throughout the night, each Alpha revealing more about their packs. I danced with Alpha Darius, who shared insights on his pack's trade routes, and Alpha Serena, who spoke passionately about her education programs for young wolves.

Between dances, I caught glimpses of Evan and Brandon, their watchful eyes ensuring my safety, even as they remained distant. Heckim was there too, often looking my way but keeping his distance as if respecting the unspoken boundaries we had established.

As the night drew on, I felt a sense of accomplishment. I had managed to make meaningful connections with the Alphas, learning about their strengths and challenges, and how we might all benefit from stronger alliances. Each conversation reinforced the potential for collaboration and mutual growth.

Towards the end of the evening, Beta Joey found me. "It seems you've made quite an impression, Princess Lydia," he said, a hint of admiration in his voice.

"Beta Joey, you startled me," I said with surprise in my voice.

"My apologies, Princess. I only came here to talk to you," he said, and I was genuinely curious about the way he spoke to me, considering the fact that he hadn't appreciated my ambitious nature earlier.

"To talk? What is it?" I questioned.

"I would like to apologize for the way I talked to you in front of all the Alphas. I didn't mean to insult you," he said, his tone sincere.

I raised an eyebrow, studying his expression. "I must admit, I'm surprised to hear this from you. What brought about this change of heart?"
