CHAPTER 99 Final Battle

  LYDIA'S POV

With a snarl, I shifted into my Lycan form, my bones cracking and reshaping, muscles rippling as fur sprouted from my skin. The transformation was always painful, but it brought with it a surge of power and heightened senses. I hoped it would give me an edge, but as I looked into the demon's eyes, I knew it wouldn't be enough on its own.

The demon lunged at me, its massive hand swinging towards my head. I ducked, the force of the blow sending a gust of wind past my ears. I retaliated with a swipe of my claws, aiming for its midsection. My claws met its tough hide, barely leaving a scratch. The demon laughed, a deep, rumbling sound that echoed off the stone walls.

"You think you can fight me, little wolf?" it taunted, its voice dripping with disdain. "You're nothing compared to the power of the demons."

I growled, refusing to let its words intimidate me. I launched myself at it, teeth bared, claws extended. The demon moved with surprising speed, sidestepping my attack and grabbing me by the arm. It swung me around, slamming me into the wall with bone-jarring force. Pain exploded in my shoulder, but I gritted my teeth and pushed through it.

I twisted out of its grasp, landing on my feet and crouching low. The demon's eyes followed my every move, a predatory gleam in their depths. I circled it, looking for an opening, but it was always one step ahead. It lashed out with its claws, and I barely managed to dodge, the sharp tips grazing my side and drawing blood.

The pain was sharp, but it only fueled my determination. I couldn't afford to think about the injuries; I had to keep fighting. I lunged again, this time aiming for its legs. My teeth sank into its calf, and it let out a roar of pain. I felt a moment of triumph, but it was short-lived. The demon kicked me off, sending me flying across the room. I hit the ground hard, the impact knocking the wind out of me.

Gasping for breath, I struggled to my feet. The demon was already coming at me again, its eyes blazing with fury. I braced myself, ready for the next assault. It swung its fist at me, and I ducked, but it anticipated my move and brought its other hand down, slamming me into the ground. The pain was excruciating, but I pushed myself up, my vision swimming. Blood dripped from my wounds, staining my fur. The demon loomed over me, its grin widening.

"You're persistent, I'll give you that," it said. "But it's useless. You can't defeat me."

"We'll see about that," I growled, my voice rough with pain and determination.

I gathered all my strength and launched myself at the demon again. This time, I aimed for its throat, my jaws closing around its neck. It roared in fury, thrashing as it tried to shake me off. I held on with all my might, digging my claws into its flesh. It was like trying to hold onto a bucking bronco, but I didn't let go.

The demon finally managed to pry me off, throwing me to the ground. I landed hard, my body screaming in protest. I knew I was badly injured, but I couldn't stop now. I struggled to my feet, swaying unsteadily. The demon was bleeding from several wounds, but it was still standing strong.

"Impressive," it admitted, its voice tinged with grudging respect. "But you're at your limit."

I knew it was right. I was barely holding on, my strength fading fast. But I couldn't let it end like this. I had to find a way to escape, to survive. As the demon prepared to attack again, I glanced around, searching for anything that could help me.

That's when I saw it—a narrow passageway hidden in the shadows, barely visible. It was a long shot, but it was my only chance. Summoning the last of my strength, I made a break for it. The demon roared in anger, lunging after me, but I was already diving into the passageway, its claws missing me by inches.

I scrambled through the narrow tunnel, the walls scraping against my fur and skin. I could hear the demon's enraged roars echoing behind me, but it couldn't follow me into the tight space. I kept moving, driven by sheer willpower, until I finally emerged into a small cave.

The cave was dark and damp, but it was a refuge. I collapsed onto the cold stone floor, my body trembling with exhaustion and pain. I had escaped, but I was far from safe. My wounds were severe, and I could feel the life draining out of me.

As I lay there, struggling to stay conscious, I noticed a faint glow coming from a corner of the cave. Curious, I dragged myself towards it, my vision blurry. There, growing in a patch of damp earth, was a cluster of herbs. They glowed with a soft, green light. They seemed rare, almost mythical, but I had heard stories of such miraculous herbs.

With shaking hands, I gathered the herbs and chewed them, I don't know what I expected from the action but I was desperate, the bitter taste filling my mouth. Almost immediately, I felt a soothing warmth spread through my body, easing the pain and closing my wounds. It wasn't a complete cure, but it was enough to keep me alive.

I leaned back against the cave wall, letting out a sigh of relief. I had survived the battle, but I knew this was just the beginning. Alpha Matthews and the demon were still out there, and the South Guard Pack was in grave danger.
