LYDIA'S POV
As the days passed, I could feel my strength gradually returning. The high fever that had gripped me subsided, and my wounds, though still painful, were healing at an astonishing rate thanks to my Lycan bloodline. The healers marvelled at my rapid recovery, and I could sense their newfound respect for me. The news of my battle with the demon had spread like wildfire throughout the South Guard Pack, and with it, my reputation transformed from that of a stranger to a revered hero.
One morning, as the sunlight streamed through the window, I decided it was time to address the pack. With the help of Evan and Brandon, I made my way to the pack's central hall. As we entered, I was met with a sea of faces—pack members of all ages, their expressions ranging from curiosity to awe.
Alpha Matthew stood at the front, a humbled look on his face. He had been the first to apologize, expressing deep regret for his actions and vowing to make amends. Now, he stepped aside, allowing me to address the pack directly.
Taking a deep breath, I steadied myself. "Thank you all for coming," I began, my voice still hoarse but strong. "I know that many of you have heard about what happened. I want to share my story with you and express my gratitude for the care and support you've shown me."
A murmur of anticipation rippled through the crowd. I glanced at Evan and Brandon, who nodded encouragingly.
"When the storm hit, I found myself alone, separated from my friends," I continued. "I stumbled upon this packhouse, seeking refuge from the blizzard. I never imagined that I would face a demon or that my actions would have such an impact on all of you."
An elder from the crowd spoke up, her voice filled with respect. "We are grateful for your bravery, Lydia. You saved us from a terrible fate."
I nodded, feeling a swell of emotion. "Thank you. The battle with the demon was the most challenging thing I've ever faced. It was relentless, powerful, and it wanted nothing more than to destroy me and consume this pack."
The room fell silent as I recounted the harrowing fight. "I used every bit of strength I had, and even when I thought I couldn't go on, I refused to give up. It was not just my will to survive but my desire to protect all of you that kept me going."
One of the younger pack members stepped forward, eyes wide with admiration. "How did you defeat it, Lydia?"
I smiled, remembering the crucial moment. "During the battle, I discovered a cave nearby where I found a rare herb. I sensed the demon's fear of the herb, so I coated my claws with its juice. When I confronted the demon again, it was weakened by the herb, and I was able to wound it fatally."
A collective gasp filled the room, followed by murmurs of amazement. "You faced the demon alone and prevailed," another pack member said, shaking his head in disbelief. "You truly are remarkable."
"it's because of the support and care I've received from all of you that I'm standing here today."
"Lydia," Alpha Matthew began, taking a deep breath. "You have proven yourself to be a true leader, not only by your actions in defeating the demon but also through the way you have united this pack. I owe you an apology for the way I treated you initially. I was blinded by my fears and insecurities, and I did not see you for who you truly are."
The hall was silent as his words hung in the air. I could feel the sincerity in his voice, and it touched me deeply.
"I am deeply embarrassed by my actions," he continued, his gaze meeting mine. "You have shown courage, strength, and wisdom beyond your years. It is clear to me and to everyone here that you are the leader this pack needs."
Murmurs of agreement echoed through the hall, and I felt a swell of emotion. Alpha Matthew took a step back, his hands trembling slightly as he reached for a ceremonial dagger from a nearby table.
"In recognition of your bravery and leadership, I, Alpha Matthew, hereby pass the leadership of the South Guard Pack to you, Lydia." He held the dagger out to me, the blade gleaming in the morning light. "I believe you will lead us with honor and guide us in eradicating all unknown creatures that threaten our safety."
A gasp of surprise rippled through the crowd, followed by a wave of applause and cheers. I stared at the dagger, my heart pounding. This was an immense responsibility, one that I had not expected, but I felt a deep sense of purpose and determination.
Taking a deep breath, I accepted the dagger from Alpha Matthew, feeling its weight in my hand. The hall was silent, the pack members watching with anticipation. I could see the mix of hope and anxiety in their eyes, and it pained me to disappoint them. But my path was clear.
"Thank you, Alpha Matthew," I said, my voice steady. "But I cannot accept this."
A murmur of surprise rippled through the crowd. Alpha Matthew's eyes widened in shock, and he took a step closer, his brow furrowing in confusion. "Lydia, you have proven yourself to be a capable leader. The pack respects you—"
