LYDIA'S POV
Evan nodded, his expression resolute. "We'll figure it out, Lydia. We'll get to the bottom of this."
Brandon placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "She's strong, like you. We'll help her through this."
"Lydia, Kate is back and she is alright now," Evan said, breaking the silence. My gaze was fixed on my mother's resting face, her breathing finally steady and peaceful.
"Yes, she will recover soon. Why do you look so gloomy?" I questioned, turning my attention to him.
"I know, but I am thinking of all the other nobles who take advantage of innocent women because they think they are in power," Evan replied, his voice heavy with frustration. "I believe today's incident happened because Norman thought that he could do anything and get away with it."
"I need to put a stop to this," I concluded, the fire of determination igniting within me.
"Put a stop? What do you mean and how?" Brandon asked, stepping closer, his expression a mix of concern and curiosity.
"I am going to find out which nobles are keeping mistresses despite having their mate, and I will punish them exactly how I punished Norman," I declared, my voice unwavering.
"But Lydia, it might be risky for you," Evan suggested, his worry evident in his eyes.
"Risky or not, I don't care about myself anymore. I need to do this for those women who have been suffering because of these kinds of people," I responded, my resolve growing stronger with each word.
Evan sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I understand your determination, Lydia. But we need to be strategic about this. Charging in blindly could put you in more danger."
Brandon nodded in agreement. "Evan's right. We need to gather information first. Find out who these nobles are and what exactly they're involved in."
I took a deep breath, considering their words. They were right; I couldn't afford to be reckless. "Alright, we'll gather information first. But once we have what we need, we will take action. These nobles must be held accountable for their actions."
Evan placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "We'll stand by you, Lydia. We'll make sure that justice is served."
Over the next few days, we began our investigation. Discreetly, we gathered information about the nobles and their secret affairs, relying on informants and allies within the palace. The extent of the corruption was staggering, and it fueled my determination to bring justice to those who had suffered in silence.
One evening, as we pored over the gathered information in a secluded chamber, Evan spoke up. "We have enough evidence now. We can now move forward and punish them."
We formulated a plan, ensuring we had enough support to confront the nobles and expose their wrongdoings. The night we chose to act, the atmosphere was tense, but my resolve never wavered.
As we approached the grand hall where the nobles often gathered, I could feel the weight of the moment pressing down on me.
I know that this step might change everything.
"Ladies and gentlemen," I began, my voice echoing through the hall. "Today marks the end of your unchecked power and the beginning of justice for those you have wronged."
Gasps and murmurs spread through the crowd as I presented the evidence we had gathered. Faces paled, and some tried to deny their involvement, but the truth was undeniable.
One of the nobles, a man named Lord Harrington, stepped forward, his face contorted with anger. "You have no right to accuse us, Lydia!"
"I have every right," I retorted, my eyes blazing. "As a leader, it is my duty to protect the innocent and ensure justice is served. Your actions have caused untold suffering, and you will be held accountable."
Evan and Brandon moved to support me, their presence a reminder that I was not alone in this fight. "We have the evidence," Brandon said, his voice firm. "There is no escaping the truth."
The confrontation was intense, but the support of my allies and the undeniable evidence left the nobles with no room to maneuver. One by one, they were exposed, their power stripped away, and a painful death was their punishment.
As the night drew to a close, I felt a sense of accomplishment but also a sobering realization. This was just the beginning. The memories of my mother's torment and the countless other women all these people had wronged fueled my wrath as I systematically eliminated every noble associated with this crime. They had all played a part in the suffering, and they deserved no mercy.
I knew that the nobles would not take this lightly. They would see my actions as a threat to their power, a challenge to their authority.
Returning to the palace, I took a moment to check on my mother. She was still resting, her face peaceful. I leaned down and kissed her forehead, whispering, "We did it, Mother. We're making things right."
Days passed, and the atmosphere in the palace grew tense. Rumors of discontent among the other nobles reached my ears. Whispers of rebellion and retaliation floated through the halls like a dark cloud. I knew it was only a matter of time before they made their move.
One morning, as I stood by the window of my chamber, gazing out at the courtyard below, Evan burst into the room, his face etched with worry. "Lydia, we have a problem. A faction of radical nobles is leading their armies towards the palace. They're demanding your death."
I knew something like this would happen and I was prepared.
"Thousands. They've rallied their forces, convinced that you're nothing more than a powerless young girl who needs to be silenced," Evan replied, his voice tight with anger and concern.
