CHAPTER 138 Message from the North Light Pack

"Evan," Brandon said, breaking me out of my thoughts. "We need to regroup. Let's gather everyone in the throne room and figure out our next move."

I nodded, though my mind was racing. We had to find Lydia, and we had to do it fast. The kingdom's future depended on it.

As we regrouped in the throne room, the air was thick with tension. Everyone's faces were etched with worry and determination. Suddenly, a guard entered the room, his face pale.

"Brandon, Evan," he said urgently. "There's a message from the North Light Pack."

Brandon and I exchanged a quick glance. The North Light Pack was not our concern at this moment, but considering that Lydia's past was associated with that pack, I thought any news from them was significant, even if it seemed irrelevant.

"What is it?" Brandon asked, stepping forward.

The guard handed over a sealed letter. "It's from Alpha Cameron."

Brandon took the letter and quickly broke the seal, scanning the contents. His face darkened as he read.

"What is the message?" I asked, my heart sinking at the look on his face.

Brandon took a deep breath before speaking. "Alpha Cameron's wife, Luna Judy, has passed away."

A murmur of shock rippled through the room. Luna Judy was beloved by her pack, she was not a good person but she was a powerful Luna. Her loss was a heavy blow. Though Alpha Cameron was known for his greed, most of the affairs of the pack were managed by Luna Judy.

"That's terrible news," I said, feeling a mix of emotions, I had a bad feeling about this. "What happened?"

Brandon shook his head. "The letter doesn't say. Only that it was sudden and tragic."

The weight of this news pressed down on us. Memories of Luna Judy's influence and actions, both good and bad, surfaced. While she had been a beloved figure to many, we couldn't forget the harsh treatment Lydia had endured under her watch. Lydia had to spend countless nights without food or shelter over her head because of her. I felt bad for the pack but I none for her or Alpha Cameron.

I looked at Brandon, and he seemed to be lost in thought. "Brandon," I said, trying to get his attention, "do you think Lydia…"

He nodded slowly. "It's possible. Lydia might have gone to pay her respects. Despite everything, she has always been compassionate. But if she's there…"

"She might be in trouble," I finished, the realization hitting me hard. "That pack never respected her and when he showed up uninvited I knew that he had his eyes set on Lydia once again."

Our argument with Lydia replayed in my mind. The guilt gnawed at me. If she had left because of us, then we were responsible for her safety. Failing to protect Lydia was a mistake we couldn't afford.

"We need to find her," Brandon said, his voice filled with resolve. "We need to go to the North Light Pack."

Determined, we quickly prepared for the journey. The palace was left in capable hands, but our focus was solely on Lydia. The ride to the North Light Pack was tense and filled with an unsettling silence. Both of us were lost in our thoughts, grappling with the fear and guilt that plagued us.

As we rode, I couldn't help but think of all the times Lydia had proven her strength and resilience. Yet, she was still our responsibility. We had sworn to protect her, and now she needed us more than ever.

The landscape blurred as we sped towards our destination. Every passing moment felt like an eternity. My mind was a whirlwind of what-ifs and worst-case scenarios. Brandon's face mirrored my own inner turmoil. We both knew that our argument with Lydia had been the catalyst for her disappearance. We had to make things right.

When we finally reached the borders of the North Light Pack, the atmosphere was heavy with mourning. The pack members moved about solemnly, their faces etched with sorrow. We approached the gates and were met by a guard.

"We need to speak with Alpha Cameron," Brandon said, his voice urgent.

I quickly interjected, "No… if Alpha Cameron is responsible for her disappearance, then we don't know what he might do to her."

Brandon nodded, his face tense. "You're right. We'll have to think of something else."

We stepped back from the gates and retreated into the nearby forest to discuss our next move. The weight of the situation pressed heavily on us, but we couldn't afford to make any mistakes. Lydia's life might depend on it.
