LYDIA'S POV
As Cameron's lifeless body lay on the ground, I could see Manu's resolve crumbling. His shoulders shook with the weight of what he had just done, and tears streamed down his face. The room, which moments before had been filled with the tension of battle, now felt heavy with sorrow and relief.
Brandon and Evan stepped forward, their expressions softening. They approached Manu with cautious empathy.
"Manu," Brandon said gently, reaching out to him. "We understand how difficult this must be for you. We're sorry you had to go through all this."
Evan nodded, placing a reassuring hand on Manu's shoulder. "But we also want to thank you for doing what's right. You saved many lives today."
Manu looked up at them, his eyes filled with anguish. "I had to do it. Our pack was on the verge of extinction because of my father. He was going to destroy all of us because of his desires."
Brandon pulled Manu into a hug, offering him the comfort he desperately needed. "You did the right thing, Manu. You are a true Alpha—the Alpha this pack truly needs. I know it wasn't easy."
Manu's voice trembled as he spoke. "Extinction? You don't know the half of it." He looked at me, his eyes full of pain and regret. "My father made a deal with demons. My mother... my mother died because of him. He killed her himself and burned half of her body to offer it to the demons."
A horrified gasp escaped my lips. The weight of Manu's words sank in, and I felt a mixture of shock and sympathy. "Why, Manu? Why did he do this?"
Manu took a deep breath, struggling to find the strength to continue. "He sold half of his soul in exchange for unearthly powers. He wanted more power, more control. Even if he had married you, Lydia, he wouldn't have stopped there. His greed knew no bounds. Next, he would have tried to take over the entire kingdom."
The room fell silent as we all absorbed the gravity of his confession. The realization of the true extent of Cameron's madness was chilling.
Evan's eyes were filled with understanding. "Manu, you did what you had to do. If you hadn't stopped him, his rage and ambition would have killed everyone."
Manu nodded, tears still streaming down his face. "I know. But it doesn't make it any easier. He was my father."
I stepped forward, my heart aching for Manu. "You're incredibly brave, Manu. Your father's actions were not your fault. You made a choice to protect your pack, and that makes you a true leader."
Manu looked at me, his eyes reflecting a mix of gratitude and sorrow. "I just... I hope I can live up to the expectations of being a good Alpha."
"You already have," Brandon said firmly. "You've proven your strength and your commitment to doing what's right. Your pack is lucky to have you."
Manu tried to harden his expression, his voice edged with defiance. "I did what was necessary. It wasn't for Lydia or anyone else. It was for me and my pack." His words were meant to sound harsh, but I could see the conflict within him. Despite his bravado, he wasn't inherently a bad person; he had been shaped by his circumstances.
Suddenly, the room's atmosphere changed. A chill ran down my spine as Cameron's body began to convulse violently on the floor. The wound Manu had inflicted glowed with an eerie, malevolent light. The air grew thick with a dark, oppressive energy.
"What's happening?" Evan demanded, eyes wide with alarm.
Brandon stepped back, his stance ready for anything. "I don't know, but it's not good."
Cameron's body twisted and contorted in unnatural ways, bones cracking and reforming. His skin darkened, taking on a grotesque, almost otherworldly hue. From his mouth, an unearthly scream echoed through the chamber, filled with rage and agony.
"The demon," Manu whispered, his voice trembling. "It's consuming him."
We watched in horror as Cameron's transformation was completed. His body had become a monstrous, demonic form, towering over us with glowing red eyes and razor-sharp claws. The creature that had once been Cameron let out a roar that shook the very foundations of the room.
"You thought you could defeat me?" the demon hissed, its voice a guttural growl. "I will unleash hell upon this pack and destroy everything you hold dear!"
I could see the fear in everyone's eyes, but I also saw resolve. We couldn't let this monster win. We had to fight.
Brandon and Evan positioned themselves on either side of me, their expressions determined. Manu, despite his fear, stood his ground, ready to face the monster that had once been his father.
The demon lunged at us, its claws slashing through the air. We dodged and retaliated, our combined efforts focused on bringing it down. Every strike we landed seemed to slow it down, but it was clear that this battle would not be easy.
"We need to weaken it!" Evan called out, his voice strained from the effort. "There must be a way to break the demon's hold on Cameron's body."
I racked my brain, trying to remember any lore or knowledge that could help us. "The demon's power is tied to the pact Cameron made. If we can disrupt that, we might have a chance!"
Brandon nodded, understanding immediately. "We need to find something to break the pact. Something that can sever the demon's connection."
