CHAPTER 77 The Hidden Guardian

  Emma Pov

"Eldra, my name is Eldra, Emma," the new wolf declares confidently in my mind.

I can feel the distinct difference between Eldra and Accalia within my mind. Accalia has always been calmer, her words more contained and brief, the effort Accalia makes to communicate clearly through human words. However, with Eldra, the fluency is much more evident.

"I, getting better," Accalia retorts to my comparative thoughts between the two, and I let out a friendly laugh.

"You're perfect just the way you are, Accalia. I love you, don't worry about any of this," I assure her clearly and decisively.

I watch Faylen and Jordan searching among the other wolves and men to see who is still alive; there are very few.

"Eldra, where did you come from? How is this possible?" I question with great curiosity.

I feel Eldra pondering within me, searching for the right words to answer me. I walk across the dry, beaten ground while waiting for her response, the sun warming my skin and also drying the blood that spread all over my body. I notice my clothes are torn in several places.

"I've always been here, Emma," Eldra finally responds. "Just like Accalia, I've been with you since you were born."

The revelation makes me freeze in place for a moment. "So, I have two wolves?" the question is rhetorical, but I can visualize Eldra nodding in my mind, confirming my question.

Damn! I have two wolves! That's incredibly rare, almost impossible.

"There are legends of people with two wolves, just stories, myths. And most of the ones I know end in tragedy," I comment thoughtfully.

I've always heard stories from the elders in my old wolf pack about werewolves with two wolves. The stories always ended with the werewolf's death, some because the wolves didn't get along, others because the personality of three individuals in one body was too much to handle, and they ended up going insane.

Eldra snorts in my mind, dismissing my memories on the subject.

"You're not going to go insane, Emma. Much less die, trust me," Eldra responds firmly.

"How can you be so sure of that?" I question, kicking a loose pebble on the ground.

"Because when death tried to take you, I awakened to save you. Don't you remember?" Eldra responds with a more thoughtful voice, trying to pique my interest even more.

My entire body shudders at Eldra's declaration, and I lean against a dry tree near the pickup truck. I notice Faylen and Jordan have rescued a she-wolf who hasn't transformed back, a man, and even the witch still has a faint pulse.

"These are the only ones still alive, Alpha Emma," Jordan announces seriously. I see his face is worn and bruised. Faylen has some cuts and a bullet wound in her shoulder.

"Let's go home, we need bandages and potions for you all. Plus, we need to attend to Brunno and Charlotte," I respond with authority, heading towards my two wolf pack colleagues.

Jordan and Faylen sit in the front seats, Jordan returning to the driver's seat. I settle into the passenger seat with Charlotte in my lap. The young she-wolf's breathing is weak but steady. I cradle her in my arms.

"Were you there on the beach day?" I ask Eldra. "When I thought about killing myself?"

"No, Emma. I was there the day Ava was killed," Eldra reveals, and I feel my heart skip a beat for a moment. "I was the one who killed her, to save you," Eldra confesses, but there's no remorse in her voice, no hint of guilt.

My heart races with the information given, "Explain it to me properly, Eldra," I mentally ask my newest wolf.

I feel Eldra stir within me, and spontaneously, a loud sigh escapes from within me. I notice Jordan's eyes meet mine through the rearview mirror, and I give him a reassuring smile before turning my attention back to my new wolf.

"That night when Ava came for you, she took you to the forest and attacked you with a silver dagger. That girl was ready to kill you, and that's when I intervened," Eldra explains simply. Flashbacks of that night start to resurface in my mind, but the attack is still a mystery to me. "You were drunk that night, and transforming into a Lycan requires a lot of strength from the human, which you didn't have that night."

"And now I have it?" I raise my eyebrow as I ask.

"You've been training and stopped drinking, which has strengthened you. And now, with the witch's attack, I awakened again," Eldra responds with pride.

"You, stay now?" Accalia questions with some resistance.

"Yes, now I can remain conscious with you two. But don't worry, Accalia, we're like sisters, and I won't take up much space," Eldra responds with a bit more softness within me. But I still sense some resistance from Accalia.

It doesn't take long to reach Stonehaven Pack, and through the mindlink, I ordered Kylian and Amelia to prepare one of the rooms for Brunno and Charlotte, along with the first aid kit.

As soon as Jordan parks the pickup truck in front of our house, Kylian and Amelia jump off the porch steps and run towards us. Their excitement causes even more commotion among us all.

"What happened?" Amelia asks worriedly as Jordan pulls Brunno out of the pickup with Kylian's help.

"A weird little girl appeared out of nowhere on the road looking for our Alpha Emma," Faylen explains, pointing to Charlotte in my lap.

"Her name is Charlotte, Fay," I explain, walking with the little she-wolf nestled in my arms as we all head into the house.

"Okay, the weird little girl named Charlotte showed up, and when we were about to return to take her to…" Faylen turns to me with a furrowed brow, "where were we taking her again?"

"To the Night Howlers Pack," I respond, placing Charlotte's unconscious body on Kylian's bed while Jordan carries Brunno to his brother's bed.

For now, the house has only three bedrooms. One for Faylen and Amelia, one for me, and one for the boys to share. Over time, we'll expand so everyone has their own room.

"Okay. We were going to take her to that pack, but the pickup was sabotaged, and an ambush was set up. Emma transformed into a Lycan and devoured some warriors, and we brought the survivors here…" Faylen leans against the wall of the room, crossing her arms in front of her body. The bullet that hit her shoulder causes blood to trickle down, but Faylen doesn't seem to care about the pain. "Why did we bring them here? We don't even have a cell to keep them in!"

I rub my eyes with fatigue, "Kylian, get some of the healing potions we have and give it to Brunno and Charlotte. Amelia, take Faylen to the bathroom and clean her wound, see if the bullet is out, and if so, bandage her up. It looks like she'll need some stitches. Jordan, are you okay? Do you need any special care?" I ask seriously.

"No, Alpha Emma," Jordan responds, standing straighter.

"Great, then come with me. Let's find a place to keep the survivors for now," I order before leaving the room and hearing the footsteps of Kylian and Amelia behind me.
