CHAPTER 4 Pregnant

  Aria POV

  A Few Weeks Later

"Hey, not so fast, you need to relax."

I turned to see a young man wearing a white coat and I needed no one to tell me that he was the doctor.

"How are you feeling Aria?" he asked with a bright smile plastered on his lips.

  "I'm fine doctor, but how-"

"Your boss brought you here, but she had to leave to tend to some urgent matters, she did promise to return though," he answered, as if reading my mind.

"By the way, I'm Doctor Brian, and Aria, I have some questions for you."

  "What's it, doctor?"

"Have you noticed anything strange lately?" he asked and I shook my head negatively.

"Why doc? Is something wrong with me?" I panicked.

"No dear, except for the fact that you need to take better care of yourself and your health, then you won't have to experience things like this. I've also got some other news for you but I'll just grab the reports and come back soon."

"Okay, doc," I replied, and then he left.

I sat on the edge of the bed, my heart pounding in my chest. Anxiety gnawed at me as I waited for the doctor to reveal the results of my tests.

Dr. Brian entered the room with a warm smile. Sitting down across from me, he looked and spoke softly.

"Aria, I have the results of your tests, and I have something important to share with you," Dr. Brian began, "Based on the results, I'm pleased to inform you that you are pregnant."

  "What!!?" I half yelled.

A mixture of shock and disbelief washed over my face. My mind raced as I tried to process the magnitude of the news. Thoughts of my recent romantic encounters, particularly the passionate night I had shared with Isaac, flooded my consciousness.

"I'm pregnant?" I managed to utter, my voice barely above a whisper. The room seemed to spin as a whirlwind of emotions swept through me.

Dr. Brian nodded, his gaze filled with understanding. "Yes, Aria. Congratulations, you're going to be a mother."

I was shocked by what the doctor had said. It then dawned on me that I missed my monthly flow, but I was so focused on work and wallowing in my pain that I didn't give it much thought.

"This can't happen, this can't be," I muttered, my eyes were starting to sting with unshed tears.

"Aria? What's wrong?" Doctor Brian asked, the concern visible in his voice.

"A are you sure about this doc? I can't be pregnant, this can't be true."

"Oh, Aria, here are indeed the results." he handed the result to me.

I snatched the paper from him and hurriedly opened it, my hands were shaking. When I saw the positive sign for myself, my heart shattered.

  "N no, this can't be. Doctor, I can't be pregnant, I just can't." I cried out.

"Isn't this supposed to be good news? I mean you're having a baby Aria, you should be happy."

"You have no idea what this means doctor!'' I screamed in tears.

"I thought I was infertile and unable to conceive, but now I'm pregnant. It's all like a dream because my fiance cheated on me. After all, he thought I was infertile and I couldn't give him children. Now, here I am with a positive pregnancy test."

"Aria, I'm so sorry. I had no idea that you'd been through so much."

I shook my head. "You don't understand. Doctor, I did premarital checkups and it indicated that I was infertile...So how did this happen?"

"Uh… you see the report can only suggest a possibility of infertility and since you're pregnant Aria, it's evident that the issue was with the low sperm quality of your partner.

My eyes widened, "You mean, my fiance is the infertile one? I thought that it was my fault this whole time."

"Yes, it's possible. The infertility report can go either way, there's always a 50-50 chance. I'm sorry you were misinformed." Doctor Brian said. "Do you feel any better knowing this?"

I was at a loss for words. My whole world had just been turned upside down, and I didn't know how to feel. I was still trying to process everything that Dr. Brian just told me.

I decided to leave the doctor's office and head home. I needed some time to process everything I had just learned. As I walked out the door, I pulled out my phone and called my best friend, Layla. She answered on the second ring.

"Hey, Layla. I just got some shocking news, and I need to talk to you. Are you at home?" I asked.

"Hey, Aria! Yeah, I'm at home, what's going on? You sound upset." Layla said.

I took a deep breath. "I will tell you when I get home."

"Alright... I'll be waiting..." she said, the sound in her voice indicated that she was curious, as I ended the call.

I hailed a cab and headed home.

"Hey, Aria. Come in," she said, a look of concern on her face. "What's going on? You seemed pretty worried on the phone. Are you alright?"

I took a deep breath and then spoke. "Layla, I'm pregnant."

Her face widened with shock and excitement. "That's terrific news Aria! I'm so happy for you!" she hugged me but noticed that I wasn't smiling.

"But it seems like something is wrong. Why aren't you happy?" she asked.

"That's the thing, Layla. I am happy but I am also confused. I just found out that Dominic is infertile."

Layla's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "I'm confused. If he's infertile, then how did you get pregnant?"

I took a deep breath. "That's the thing, Layla. I thought I was the problem and that the reason Dominic cheated on me was because I couldn't give him a child.

But now finding out that I wasn't the problem but he was the problem… it's all so… I don't know..."Confusing? Overwhelming? Frustrating?" Layla offered.

I nodded. "All of that and more. It's like my whole understanding of what happened with me and Dominic is being turned on its head."

"So, are you going to tell him that you're pregnant for him?" Layla asked, holding my hand.

I looked at her and then spoke. "I think the father of my baby isn't Dominic."

Still confused, Layla asked, "If Dominic isn't the father, then who is?"

  "Isaac," I revealed.

  "Who the hell is Isaac?"
