CHAPTER 55: Strain from past deaths

  ~Aurora~

Alexia kept walking in front of me. I was looking around, noticing how the sun was setting too quickly and we had come a far distance from our campsite. With only sir Hanzel in the middle of the woods, it must be hard for him to cope with the darkness if we don't get him firewood immediately.

"Alexia. Like it or not, we are wasting a lot of time coming to this direction. We should have gone elsewhere."

"You don't have to worry about giving Han Hanzel the firewood. I can return ten times faster than you in my wolf form." Her words humbled me. That's right. With my knowledge, I can contribute to finding firewood and help her deliver them back to the man. And I'm proficient enough to travel all the way back to our site. I can even find more branches and logs to build our shelter for three nights to stay in there.

However, as we approached towards the interior...I felt something was off with my senses.

"Alexia..." I tried to call for her, but I realized it was just in my head. The word has never come out of my mouth.

  This is strange.

After shaking my head vigorously, I looked to the front and saw Alexia had walked a significant distance away from where I halted. She was in her own world, never looking back once and kept going as if I didn't matter. Of course. What else would I expect from her?

'My lovely daughter...' my eyes widened as I whipped my head to look over my shoulder. It was as if a whispering ghost had spoken to me. The uncanny resemblance to the sound of my mother calling for my name had me hold my aching chest as the next gesture. All of this hustle with me, and Alexia didn't even turn around to look.

I licked my lips out of nervousness. The palpitations soon reduced, and I was back on my way. Except...everything felt eerily silent.

"Uh....Alexia?" I'm way too young to cope with this so soon. And hence, I couldn't help but reach out to Alexia and seek her company. She was far away to hear me, but she is also a high rank werewolf. She can hear me...

But she's ignored me, once again.

'Aurora...our future depends on you, love. This pack...it is our family, isn't it?'

  'Yes, dad.'

I gasped, my knees giving out on me. This time, it was the sound of my father and my child self responding to him. The eerie effect it left behind in my ears sent chills down my spine!

Oh Goddess...what have I walked into?

Suddenly, crashing sounds of metal scraping, tyres screeching and helpless screams of a man and a woman. It didn't take me much long to realize whose those screams belonged to.

The exact moment of their car crash. Their helplessness, and everything that began wandering about that incident.

Suddenly, there was a woman's face so close in front of me that I couldn't see the expression. And then, as I was about to scream for help, the face had disappeared with a fog of white dust blown onto me from somewhere I couldn't recognize.

I was hyperventilating, because I do believe in ghosts and other spiritual stuff that is supposed to mess with someone's peace. Tears stung in the back of my eyes as I opened them forcefully. I had to assure myself that I can cope with this mental distress of mine. And that it is just a mask of mirage that my brain is forcing me into.

Suddenly, I found myself in front of a road. I didn't know how I got here. I didn't even recognise the curve of this road. It was a Y-cross road, with headlights from somewhere far being the only possible illumination in the middle of this...somewhere.

  Where was I even...?

  What is happening!?!

After the first light had approached, I felt the ground start to shake. Only ever so slightly, as if a heavy vehicle was approaching close on the gravel road. Few moments later, as I stood there frozen and confused out of my mind, I heard people's names being called out.

  'Den and his wife...

  Fangborn, those are your parents...'

In that helpless state that I was stuck in...I saw nothing but blur. I realized the sadness coming from the depths of my chest was stuck in my throat. I wasn't able to speak, wasn't able to communicate at all. A shuddering deep breath broke me away from the feeling of helplessness, and I saw the car approaching me at full speed.

It was a car I couldn't recognise in the beginning, but then...The black Audi which I remember was shattered and twisted beyond recognition after the accident...it belonged to us. It was my mother's favorite car.

She liked it, because the engine's whirring was so silent and she loved peaceful things and peaceful people around her. Maybe that was why she was fated to my father. They're a perfect pair. He brought her so much peace...

"WATCH OUT!" I flinched in terror, the voice was so loud that I thought I heard it right beside my ear! I realized that the panicked voice belonged to my lovely, beautiful mother.

It so happened in slow motion, that the heavy truck which sped through into the Y-cross road came into the car so fast. I blinked, and felt the tear droplet roll down my right cheek.

As I stood there, in an unfathomable state of mind, I realized that I was standing in a position where I could see my parents' car with them inside...fly over me.

I was standing at the curve of the ridge, a heavily dangerous curve soon crossing the Y-cross road.

The headlights were broken as they exploded because of the pressure, the car was flying over me sideways, and I could see the fear in my parents' eyes. Blood had already started trickling down the side of my father's face. My mother was stuck in an expression of disbelief, her chest trying to sob but no words coming out because of the shock.

My father is a renowned, powerful alpha, right? How could he not save himself from this gore situation? It happened so fast otherwise, that even my strong father couldn't get himself and mother to safety before the incident.

I turned around...and watched the car tumble across the murderous rocks across the ridge.

Gathering some courage, I then proceeded to walk to the edge of the ridge.

The car, under darkness, laid on the flat surface while my father tried to crawl out of it.

  And then...The car exploded.

Its fire reached to my face, I could feel the warmth on my skin. It was so warm, that I felt my teardrops dry out for a brief while.

An unholy sob escaped out of my chest after that. And I fell to the ground, wailing my heart out.

Why was this happening to me!?

Why was my mind playing tricks with me!?

It was as if someone had forced me to come back to this very moment and reminisce about the incident with my very own eyes!

How cruel was it to make a child show how their parents have left them alone in this world. How cruel and vile was this mind of mine which assumed the incidents SO PERFECTLY that I am beginning to think that I'm a psychic.

I screamed my lungs out to the sky.

Take me back to reality, please. I'm begging.

  Or...was this my reality now?
