Chapter 24

  ELIJAH'S POV:-

The whole night, I was tossing and turning on the bed. While Artemis was sleeping peacefully. I wanted to wake her up and ask her why she was not responding to me. Why did she go silent all of the sudden? I felt like I did something that ruined her mood. At least, that's what Dean had been nagging me about all night. I sighed as I sat up on the bed. I looked at the wall clock. The wait was finally over. It was the longest night of my whole life. There were still five more minutes for me to wake her up. I knew if I stayed inside the room for those five minutes, I would wake her up to ask her if something was actually wrong.

I crawled out of the bed and went towards the bathroom. After finishing my morning business, I took a quick shower. I wrapped a towel around my waist and stepped out of the bathroom. Although it had been quarter past 5, I decided to wake her up after I had changed into my workout gear. I slipped into a black tank top and black sweatpants. I grabbed my joggers and walked out of the closet. I went towards her side of the bed and gently ruffled her hair. "Hey, baby girl. Wake up! It's time to go for our morning workout. Remember, I told you we will work out early today." I said in a gentle tone while patting her head gently.

To be honest, watching her sleep was actually the best thing in this entire world. She looked like a carefree child while sleeping. A frown appeared on her face as I disrupted her while sleeping peacefully. She stretched her arms like a cat and lazily opened her eyes. A wide smile appeared on her face as she saw my face. My heart skipped a beat and I sighed in relief. It was a relief knowing that I was just worrying over nothing. But my happiness didn't last very long. The same angry pout like the night before appeared on her face again. Without uttering a single word, she crawled out of the bed and walked towards the bathroom, stomping her feet on the ground angrily.

My eyes were staring at the door of the bathroom that she shut with the loud thud. My jaw was on my lap as I was unable to move for a few minutes. "I know you did something. I am sure of it now. Have you seen how angry she looked? You have to remember what you did to her. What kind of man are you? You don't really remember after screwing things up?" Dean growled at me angrily. I sighed as I started to feel as if I was at fault. I didn't remember doing anything wrong to her. I didn't even raise my voice at her. She always got whatever she wanted. I took her out every single day so she wouldn't feel trapped inside the penthouse.

Shaking my head, I went towards the couch along with my shoes in my hands. I sat down and wore my shoes. Artemis stepped out of the bathroom and walked towards the closet. In a few minutes, she stepped out of the closet, wearing a cute baby blue onesie. Her baby blue joggers matched her outfit. I couldn't help but smile. In that cute outfit and that pout on her face, she looked more stunning than ever. I walked towards her while looking at her. As I was about to place my hand on her small back, she suddenly walked away. She stepped out of the bedroom without me. And I was left behind, staring at the closed door of my bedroom.

  ---------------------------------------------------------

All day at work, all I did was think about anything that might have angered her like that. Despite the fact that I had three important meetings to attend throughout the day, I was engaged with my own thoughts. I hardly paid any attention towards what the inverters were saying. Daniel was the one asking all the questions or objecting over the terms he didn't like. While I was busy thinking about everything I did throughout the week. The harder I thought the more tangled my mind felt. I couldn't remember anything at all. And yet she hadn't spoken a single word to me in hours. I was staring at my watch for the last meeting to be over. So I could go home and ask her what was wrong with her.

I sighed in relief as the meeting was finally over. I shook hands with the investors and they walked away. Once the investors were gone, I went towards my office to grab my stuff. Beta Daniel followed me behind. "Is everything alright, Elijah? You seemed distracted all day. It only happens when you are stressed about something. You know you can tell me anything. I am not just the Beta of your pack. I am also your best friend." Daniel asked me in a low tone from behind. I sighed as I dropped down on my chair. I was massaging my temples as my head started to ache because of the stress. And I hardly had a blink of sleep at night.

Dean was not talking to me at all since we got back home after our workout. She was not saying anything. She didn't even respond to my questions. She didn't even ask me to end the workout like everyday. She didn't complain about anything at all. "It's about Artemis. Something is wrong. She is not speaking with me. She isn't responding to me. She didn't even once complain while working out this morning. And now Dean is also giving me silent treatment. He thinks I did something to anger her. I have no fucking idea what angered her this much." I blurted everything out in front of Daniel in one breath. And I was surprised when I kinda felt better after sharing it with Daniel.

Hearing my whole story, he chuckled awkwardly while rubbing the back of his head. Of course, it was unlike me for bearing the attitude she was showing me. "Maybe she is just tired of her daily routine and is looking for something new. It's like living the same boring life. Repeating a day again and again. We all get to change a few things throughout our days. But she is living the same day again and again. Only the numbers on the calendar are changing. You would feel frustrated too after living the same day everyday. Don't you agree?" Daniel asked me in a low tone and I frowned.

After thinking a little, it started to make sense what he was trying to tell me. He was right. Different days for us but Artemis might be feeling like she was trapped in a time loop. Living each day exactly the way she lived the previous one. "How about you try something new tonight? Instead of cooking dinner for her at home tonight, take her out somewhere. Let her choose what she wants to eat. Then instead of a long drive, stop somewhere. Sitting by the beach, staring at the stars is the most relaxing activity." Daniel gave me an idea to fix everything between us. A smile appeared on my face as I actually liked his idea.
