CHAPTER 50

  ELIJAH'S POV:-

I woke up in the morning and looked around. A frown appeared on my face as I found myself lying on the couch. It took me a few moments to remember what happened last night. I found Alisa on the street, running away from the wild wolves. Although I wanted to ask why wild wolves would be following her, I decided to stay quiet at night. I was just glad that she was here. Alisa was the future Luna of one of the biggest werewolf packs of America.

When I heard the news that she was engaged with Alpha Lars, I was shocked. Alpha Lars was one of the most strict alphas. And he was the strongest of all as well. I felt a little jealous as I couldn't be with her. But I was happy for Alisa.

I sat up on the couch and smiled. I never stayed in a relationship with another woman. I was hopeful that one day, Alisa would come back to me. Then her engagement photos came. And I lost all hopes. I asked the Moon Goddess why she would take away the love of my life like that. I was angry at my fate.

Then a few years later, I met Artemis. Just by looking at herz I forgot all about Alisa and the years I had spent never looking at any woman at all. It suddenly felt like all that pain was worth it. Like Artemis was actually the reward for all the suffering I went through.

My eyes widened in horror as I remembered Artemis in the morning. I was supposed to take her out for dinner. I forgot about Artemis because Alisa was injured. I stood up and went towards Artemis' bedroom. I was not even sure if she had dinner at night.

As soon as I opened the door of her bedroom, my eyes widened in shock. Her bedroom was decorated with led lights. A music box started playing happy birthday music. A bunch of gifts were on her bed. And the back wall of her room had balloons that spelled, happy birthday Eli. I didn't remember telling her anything about my date of birth. Hell, I totally forgot that it was my birthday.

Artemis remembered my birthday and she prepared a surprise for me. I couldn't believe my eyes. "Oh yeah, it is your birthday. How can I forget this day? Happy birthday, Elijah." I heard Alisa wishing me from behind. I was just too shocked to say anything. I just smiled and nodded my head.

Alisa entered Artemis' bedroom without asking for permission. She was looking at the decorations. "Wow! I had no idea Emma had changed this much. The colours on the walls. Paintings all over the place. Neatly set bed. It's so bright and beautiful." Alisa spoke in a low tone as she proceeded towards the closet. I walked towards Alisa and grabbed her hand. I pulled her out of the room and closed the door.

"This isn't Emma's bedroom. So I suggest you stay away from it. You can stay in my bedroom. You can go anywhere but you are not allowed to step into this bedroom. It's the boundary I would like to draw for you." I informed Alisa in a firm tone. She had a confused look on her face. But I didn't have time for that. I couldn't believe I forgot about Artemis as I saw Alisa again. I felt guilty. What shocked me more was Dean. He didn't remind me of Artemis at all.

I turned around, opened Artemis' bedroom door and stepped into her bedroom. I went straight towards her bathroom to check if she was there. But she was not in the bathroom. I stepped into the closet to check but she was not there either. I stepped out on the balcony to check up on her. To my surprise, she was not there either.

I stepped out of her bedroom and went straight towards my study room. Artemis liked to read. I often found her asleep in the study room. That's why I placed a comfortable setty and a hammock chair in the study room just for her. So if she felt like sleeping, she would be comfortable.

I opened the door of my study room but was disappointed the very next moment. She was not in the study room as well. I checked the whole apartment to find her, but she was nowhere to be found.

Panic started building inside my chest as I realised that Artemis was not at the apartment. Artemis had nowhere to go. She had been living with me ever since she came here. I walked back towards the living room where I left my stuff. I grabbed my phone and quickly dialled Daniel's number. He picked up the phone at the third bell. "Hey, Elijah. What's up?" Daniel asked me in a low tone.

He sounded rather shocked as he heard my voice. I was not sure why he would be shocked. "Artemis, she is not in the apartment. Did she come to see you?" I asked Daniel in a panicked tone. I was not sure where she might have been. And I was worried about her.

"Umm… Elijah! Artemis doesn't know where we live. You never let us show her our places. She can't be at anyone's place. Did you check the apartment thoroughly?" Daniel replied to me in a low tone. Then he asked me a question.

"Yes, I checked the whole apartment. She is nowhere to be found. Just come here. We need to find her immediately." I barked at Daniel and hung up. I grabbed my stuff and went into my bedroom. I grabbed a bunch of clean clothes from my wardrobe and all my important accessories. I stepped out of my bedroom and took my stuff to Artemis' bedroom. I locked the room from inside and went to take a quick shower. I was supposed to be ready before Daniel would be at my apartment.

  ARTEMIS' POV:-

I opened my eyes slowly and looked around. I gasped loudly as I sat up on the bed I was on. I looked around with a confused look on my face. I was in the same dress as last night. But I was lying on someone's bed. I crawled out of the bed and walked towards the door. As I opened the door, I saw someone standing in front of the door. I suddenly screamed on top of my lungs.?

"Bloody hell! What the fuck, Artemis?" A familiar voice made its way to my ears. I looked at the owner of that voice and sighed in relief. It was just Uncle Grey standing in front of me.

"Jesus Christ! You broke my eardrum." Uncle Grey growled angrily and I gave him a nervous smile.

"I am so sorry. I haven't been at your place before. When I opened my eyes, I thought I was at a stranger's place. I didn't mean to scream like that." I apologised to Uncle Grey in a low tone. Uncle Grey tilted his head and smiled. Then he patted my head.

"That's alright. You go and freshen up. I will get breakfast ready. You must be hungry." Uncle Grey replied to me in a low tone. He turned around and left. He didn't let me ask how I got to his place. I could hardly remember what happened at night. All I remember was Elijah's rude voice, buzzing in my ears.

I walked towards the bathroom and freshened up. After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I felt a little better. I stepped out of the room and went towards the dining room. I just followed the aroma of the freshly baked goods.?

My eyes blinged in excitement as I saw the table filled with all kinds of baked goods. There were muffins, buns, bread, fruit cakes, nuts cakes, pastries, croissants and even cookies. "I heard Elijah talking about your obsession with baking goods. It is your very first time in my home. So I decided to bake you a bunch of things." Uncle Grey added as he pulled a chair out for me.

Smiling excitedly, I ran towards the table. I took my seat and Uncle Grey pushed the chair closer to the table. My mouth was watering by just looking at those things.?

"Here, start up with something full of proteins." Uncle Grey spoke as he filled my plate with dumplings. I gasped excitedly as I grabbed one of the dumplings and stuffed it into my mouth. As the flavours burst into my mouth, my eyes blinged with excitement.?

"It is so good. I have never tasted dumplings this good in my entire life." I complimented Uncle Grey as I continued eating. I couldn't stop myself. I hadn't eaten anything throughout the day because I was preparing a surprise for Elijah's birthday. I learned about his birthday from one of his diaries and decided to surprise him.

I thought I would eat something good at night with Elijah as he was taking me to dinner. Tears welled up in my eyes as my whole surprise was ruined. I was so excited to see his face when he would open the door of my bedroom and would see everything I did for him. I just wanted to make him happy. But I guess there was something else that made him happy for his birthday. He didn't even spare a glance at me as he took that woman straight to his bedroom.?

All night, I was sitting in the park we used to go for a walk to. And I patiently waited for him to come and get me. When I remembered myself sitting in the park in that fancy dress, in the chilly weather, I couldn't stop myself from crying. People were watching me and whispering to each other. But I waited for him all night. It was until I could remember.?
