ARTEMIS' POV:-
I turned my head to look at the person who kept me from following my mother. As I looked into the pair of blue eyes, I calmed down a little. I was so angry that I felt like breaking the jaw of the person who stopped me. I turned my head again, only to find that the car my mother hopped in was gone. The very next moment, I broke into tears.
Elijah scooped me up in his arms and he carried me in his arm towards his car. He took the car keys from my pouch and unlocked the car. Elijah hopped into the car with me on his lap. He started the engine and drove away. I couldn't stop crying as I saw my mother after a long time.
It felt forever for us to reach home. But I was glad I was back home. Elijah didn't ask me anything through our way back home. Elijah carried me to my bedroom. I knew there were a lot of things he had planned for the day. But I just couldn't control myself. After seeing her with my own eyes, I knew I wanted to meet her soon.
Elijah locked the door and carried me towards my bed. He sat down on the edge of the bed with me on top of his lap. "Do you want to talk about it? I know you are not crazy to jump in front of a car for no reason." Elijah asked me in a low tone as he pulled me to his chest.
I looked up at his face. There was a concerned look on his face. "I saw my mother in front of the school today. I wanted to follow her. But she hopped into a car and drove away. I couldn't even get a chance to meet her." I replied to Elijah in a low tone. Tears welled up in my eyes again. I was weeping quietly.
I was glad that Elijah was there with me. His scent calmed me down a little. I had been away from my mother for too long. I wanted to hold her in my arms again. I wanted to sense her scent again. I wanted to feel her warmth around me again.
Hearing me, Elijah cupped my face with both of his hands. "Are you sure? Are you sure it was your mother?" Elijah asked me in a low tone while staring into my eyes. I didn't even need to think about his questions. I knew what I saw. And I could never forget it. Her face was imprinted at the back of my mind.
"I know it would sound cheesy. But I know what I saw. It was my mother. I could never forget her face. And her smile, it was something I would remember even in my afterlife." I replied to Elijah in a confident tone. Hearing me, Elijah nodded his head slowly. I was dead serious about finding my mom. And since she was living in Brooklyn as well, I knew I could find her.
"You don't have to worry about it anymore. I will take care of it. Just tell me her age and her name. I will find her for you." Elijah asked me in a low tone as he wrapped his arms around me. Hearing him, I frowned in confusion.
"I don't know her name or her age, Elijah. I was only five when my father divorced her. And he removed her completely from my life. He couldn't brainwash me. Her face is the only thing I know." I replied to Elijah in a low tone. I knew I was asking a lot at that moment. But Elijah was the only one I could rely upon.
Hearing me, an annoyed look appeared on Elijah's face. "Is there anything else you know about her except for her face that you remember from your childhood?" Elijah asked me in an annoyed tone. I pouted and shook my head. Elijah sighed in a disappointed way. I placed my head on his shoulder and wrapped my arms around his torso.
"I know I am asking a lot. I would do anything you would ask me. Just find my mother for me. I can't do this without you. And after seeing her today, I can't wait anymore. I want to meet her soon." I whispered in his ear as I tried my best not to start crying again. I didn't want to lose her again.
Elijah sighed again as he heard me. He laid down in the bed and I buried my face in the crock of his neck. "You don't have to repay me for doing what I am supposed to do. It's natural that you want to meet your mother. And I am the only one who can find her. But you have to give me something to help me find her." Elijah whispered in my ear while rubbing my back gently.
I sat up on his abdomen and smiled widely. "My face is right here. Is it not enough?" I asked him in a low tone and he growled in annoyance. He might have thought that I was playing with him. But that was not the case at all.
Elijah was about to open his mouth when I placed my palm on his mouth. "Hear me out. I am actually the spirit image of my mother. And that's how I recognized her too. Just imagine my face with a hint of maturity." I replied to Elijah in a low tone, hoping it would help him find my mother. It was a difficult task. But he was the only one who could help me.
Hearing my explanation, Elijah raised a brow at me. "I know you can do it. Please, don't give me that look." I whispered softly while staring into his eyes. Elijah licked my palm for me to let go of his mouth.
"Ew.. Elijah! You are disgusting." I yelled at him as I wiped his saliva on his shirt.
"Fine, I will do whatever I can to find your mother. But since it's almost an impossible task, if I am able to complete it, I will take something from you. I want to be rewarded for all my efforts." Elijah replied to me in a low tone. I shrieked in excitement as I wrapped my arms around his neck and cuddled with him.
"I will do whatever you ask me to do. Just find her. That's all I want." I whispered in his ear as I closed my eyes. Elijah pecked my forehead lovingly as he sat back up on the bed.
"Just don't cry like that ever again. And you almost gave me a heart attack when you jumped in front of that car. Just be careful from now on." Elijah added in a low tone as he tightened his hold around me. He was rocking me back and forth in his arms as if I was a baby.
"I am sorry for making you worried. I just lost control when I saw her again." I apologised to Elijah in a low tone and told him the reason why I suddenly lost control. Elijah pinched my cheek lightly as he heard me.
"I'll see what I can do. For now, don't mention it in front of anyone. Okay?" Elijah told me in a low tone. I smiled widely and nodded my head. I cupped his face with one of my hands and pecked his cheek to thank him.
---------------------------------------------------------
Elijah had called an urgent meeting the very next day. Mostly, I would stay away from those meetings. But Elijah had asked everyone to be present. So I decided to hear him out. I knew he was not going to mention anything about my mother in front of the whole pack. But the text I received from him was evidence that there was something serious he wanted to discuss with his pack. I decided to attend the meeting since Elijah personally texted me to attend the meeting. The elevator door opened and I made my way towards the apartment that was the meeting place of all the pack members. I couldn't help but wonder if that bitch Alisa would be at the meeting as well.
It was a pack meeting. Since she was not part of the pack, she was not supposed to attend the pack meeting. I placed my hand on the biometric lock screen. My face appeared on the screen then the door was unlocked. I entered the apartment and Tracy growled angrily. "Calm down, Tracy. We can't control everything around here. She couldn't have come to the meeting if it was not Elijah who had invited her. I hate to breathe the same air as her. But we have to bear it until the meeting is over." I told Tracy in an annoyed tone as I felt her getting angry. I couldn't understand the sudden change in her mood.
I was wondering if it was about the task Ryan and I received from Elijah. We had been working together and without anyone knowing. We were supposed to get back to Elijah only. He wanted no one to know what he asked us to do. He said he would inform everyone when it's time. "That bitch has guts. I am telling you, if you stand anywhere near her. I will kill you. And if she stands anywhere near Elijah, I will rip her throat out and stick it up her wet pussy. She is disgusting." Tracy roared at me and I couldn't help but giggle. Tracy was very cute whenever she was jealous of someone. But of course, I could understand her feelings.
Since the day Alisa had arrived, she had been trying to do everything she could to get her hands on Elijah. Elijah had been trying to push her away. But the more he pushed her away, the more she tried to get her hands on his body. I also thought it was irritating. Suddenly, Ryan appeared from behind. He grabbed my hand and led me out of the meeting hall. "Ryan, what are you doing? Are you crazy? Elijah will be irritated if he doesn't find us in the meeting hall." I tried to talk to Ryan but he didn't listen to me. Pulled me towards the elevator without telling me anything at all. It was a little shocking since Ryan was never an aggressive person.
Ryan took me towards Elijah's apartment. We both stepped into the apartment. Then Ryan led me towards the kitchen. "Will you tell me what the fuck is wrong with you, you weirdo? Why are you behaving like this?" I yelled at Ryan angrily as I shook his hands off of my arm. I was angry because he was behaving stupidly.
"Why did Alpha call fhso meeting all of the sudden? Is he going to ask us about the task we were given?" Ryan asked me in a panicked tone. It didn't make any sense to me why Ryan would be suddenly so worried about it. It was not something Ryan should be worried about. But then again, there was a lot I didn't know about the pack members.
I exhaled sharply as I was done listening to his panicked questions. I walked towards the fridge and grabbed a bottle of cold water. I walked back towards Ryan and handed him the bottle. "Just calm down, Ryan. If you start panicking every single time we would be called in an emergency meeting, everyone would get suspicious of us. Elijah told me that it was your first time working discreetly on a task. And he informed me that you will be panicking on many occasions." I spoke in a low tone while staring into Ryan's eyes. Ryan sat down on one of the chairs placed with the kitchen counter. He uncapped the bottle of water and took a big sip.
Elijah knew well that Ryan would be sweating a lot. That's why he gave me ideas to deal with Ryan's panic mode. "I just can't help it, okay. It's not something I like doing." Ryan replied to me in a low tone. I saw a hint of guilt in his eyes. He was trying to hide it. Maybe that was the reason why he was avoiding making eye contact with me.
