ARTEMIS' POV:-
I opened my eyes in the morning. My arms were wrapped around Elijah's pillow. The bed was cold. As if Elijah left a while ago. I sat up on the bed and looked around. "Eli! Are you in the bathroom?" I asked as I crawled out of the bed. To my surprise, I was not naked in the bed. I couldn't still feel his warmth on my body. I could sense his scent mingled with my own.
It was not a dream that I might have had at night. We actually slept together at night. Elijah liked me naked in bed since we started having sex. I had his warm hoodie on me. Maybe he didn't want me to freak out. That's why he didn't leave me naked in bed. I was wearing my underwear beneath his hoodie. I was not sure from where he might have gotten my underwear. Because I was sure I packed up all my stuff before I left three months ago.
I walked towards the bedroom and peeked inside. I was hoping to find Elijah in the bathroom but he was not there. "Where did he go? He promised not to leave me alone. And yet, he left before I could even wake up." I thought to myself as I made my way towards the kitchen. I felt thirsty and I wanted some cold water.
I was hoping he might have left some cooked breakfast for me as he never let me do the kitchen work. He always did it for me. I was not sure why he treated me like a child but it felt good to know that there was someone around me who cared about me that much.
The kitchen was empty. The apartment was still a mess. Nothing was touched. I was not sure where he might have gone. Because I started to freak out a little. I didn't want to be left alone. I filled a glass with cold water and started sipping on it slowly. "Artemis! We forgot about Emma and Alisa." Tracy growled in panic. That's when I spat the water out of my mouth. I left the glass in the sink and ran towards the elevator.
I was not even wearing my shoes. But I wanted to hurry. I had a pretty good idea where Emma might be. I was not surprised as I started following Elijah's scent. It took me to the basement floors of the apartment building Elijah owned. I got out of the elevator and ran in the direction where Elijah's scent took me.
I froze as I saw the pack standing in a circle. Elijah was in the middle. He was punching Emma as if she was his punching bag. The others were chanting something I couldn't understand because they were speaking some other language. "STOP!" I screamed on the top of my lungs.
The chanting stopped the moment my voice echoed in the basement. Elijah looked up at me with a confused frown on his face. I ran towards them. Pushing my way into the circle, I went towards Emma. I pushed Elijah off of Emma. She was lying naked in the middle of the circle. I already knew what they were doing to her. Because the sun had not risen up yet. It was still dark.
I couldn't understand the chanting but I knew they were about to execute Emma before the sun rose. That's how the werewolf world works. Once you are proven to be a traitor, the Alpha of the pack would beat you until you die. And then, they are thrown in front of the wild dogs so there was no evidence for the humans to track us down.
As wild it was, living among humans was not actually an easy task. I grabbed the blanket that was on the table and wrapped it around Emma's naked body. I was stressing about my own well being as well because jumping into an execution ceremony could only result in one thing. The death of the interrupter.
I knew Emma was a bitch. But I couldn't let an innocent person die. I was aware of the truth. I just didn't get the chance to tell Elijah. "Are you alright?" I asked Emma in a concerned tone. Emma's eyes welled up with tears as she was staring at me with a million questions in her eyes for me. I guess she didn't expect me to be the person to step up and stop the execution.
"Artemis! What are you doing here? You were supposed to rest." Elijah's voice pulled me out of the oceans of my thoughts. I grabbed both of Emma's hands and closed my eyes.
"Are you sure you want to do this? She is the reason why we almost died and them were raped." Tracy asked me in a low tone. I knew she was angry because of what Emma did. But Tracy and I knew well what was happening around us.
"I expect you of all people to understand my reason for doing it. Her sins are not that severe that she were to be executed." I replied to Tracy in a low tone. Tracy nodded her head and closed her eyes as well. We let our souls merge together.
Our healing abilities started flowing through my body to Emma's. As I had not mastered the trick yet, I was only able to heal her a little. But that was enough to trigger her own healing powers. "Artemis! She is supposed to be executed." Elijah spoke in a neutral tone. I knew he was pissed because I interfered. But he was keeping his voice down and his tone flat because he didn't want me to be scared of him.
The way he looked after me, I did the same for him. I never wanted him to do anything he would regret for the rest of his life. I was the only one who could have stopped that execution. Because according to Tracy, except for Luna, no one could ever stop an execution once it's decided.
I stood up and walked towards Elijah. He was breathing heavily while staring at me. I wrapped my arms around his torso and hugged him tightly. "You have to stop this execution. I have proof that Emma is innocent." I whispered softly as I tried to feel his warmth on my body.
"Artemis! Do you know what you are talking about?" Elijah asked me in a low tone. I pulled away from him and nodded my head while staring at his face. I heard a loud sob from behind me. I turned around and found Emma sobbing while lying on the ground. I guess she never expected I would save her life.
Elijah was sitting on a couch. He was staring at me. My hands were locked behind my back. I was waiting for him to signal me to speak. As always, my voice was able to get him to calm down. "What made you think that Emma is innocent? Because Uncle Grey did his interrogation. He didn't find anything that can prove her innocence." Elijah asked me in a calmed tone.
I looked around and found everyone staring at their shoes. They were too terrified to look up. Elijah offered me his hand as he saw me nervous. I placed my hand on his hand. He made me sit on the same couch he was on and he wrapped one of his arms around my shoulders.
I looked into his eyes and smiled at him. That's all I needed at that moment. His support so I could talk. "You couldn't have found anything at all. It was all a set up. And we all played right into that set up. Emma was just someone who the perp got most control over." I replied in a low tone. Elijah frowned in confusion as he heard me.
"The nightmares I told you about, they opened the doors of the memories that I had lost from the night I was poisoned. Emma went camping with Uncle Grey when I was poisoned. Did you think about it?" I asked Elijah in a low tone and his eyes widened in shock.
I knew he hadn't forgotten about it. He was trying to ask Emma how she poisoned me that night. "I remember waking up at night. I was thirsty. I went into the kitchen. I found Alisa in the kitchen. She hadn't left the apartment. I was able to remember what actually happened that night." I added in a low tone.
Hearing Alisa's name, Elijah's eyes darkened up with anger. I gulped hard because I had never seen him that angry ever before. "I know why she came here and what her purpose was to try and control everything around. I can prove it to you." I whispered softly as I was not sure if he would snap at me. But instead, he pulled me to his chest as he noticed my nervousness.
