ELIJAH'S POV:-
As soon as I received the call from Artemis, Daniel and I ran towards the parking lot. We hopped into the car and Daniel drove away as fast as he could. It didn't make any sense. Uncle Grey sounded happy this morning after a very long time. It didn't make sense why Artemis would tell me that he was missing. Daniel parked that car in the parking lot of Uncle Grey's apartment. Instead of waiting for an elevator, Daniel and I used our super speed to get to Uncle Grey's apartment.
As soon as I opened the door of his apartment, a curse word almost slipped out of my mouth. The apartment was completely trashed. Artemis and Ryan were standing in the middle of the living room. "Who the hell was here? How come Gregory was not able to get any signals for the intrusion?" I asked Ryan and Artemis. The next question was meant for Daniel to find out.
Gregory was one person who took care of the pack's security. Someone came in and Uncle Grey was missing, yet I didn't get to know about it. Either Gregory lost his powers or he was dead. "We can ask those questions in the meeting. For now, we need to look around for anything we can find in this apartment." Artemis stepped forward and replied to me in a calmed tone. I was not sure why she was so calm. I could say she had something on her mind.
I looked at Ryan. He was sweating. It was unusual for a werewolf to sweat like that unless it was a full moon night and he couldn't control his shifts. "Are you kidding me? Look at this place. There is hardly anything that could lead us to Uncle Grey." Before I could have asked anything to Ryan, Daniel asked Artemis a question. I looked around the place and realised that he was right.
Grey's apartment was a complete disaster at that moment. All I could sense around the apartment was Grey's scent. And to my surprise, even his scent disappeared outside of his apartment door. I didn't catch his scent when I came in. "Daniel is right! All I can sense in here is Ryan's and your scent. And Uncle Grey's scent. It's all around the apartment because of the blood all over the place." I added further to Daniel's response. I noticed the splashes of blood all over the walls and the ground.
I walked towards Artemis. She looked preoccupied. As if she was busy thinking about something important. I grabbed her hand and she looked at my face. "We need to figure out what actually happened here and fast." Artemis spoke in a concerned tone. She had a worried look on her face.
It was not her first time looking at a disastrous scene in front of her. There was something that was bothering her. I forced a small smile on my face and nodded my head. So she could calm down a little. "I watched the security footage. There is nothing in the tapes. It's like someone took him away from the roof." Ryan added in a low tone. It almost sounded like an angry growl.
His words ripped the smile off of my face. I had a concerned frown on my face as well. I thought about it for a moment. "Or someone who knew too much about this building and its secrets." I added in a low tone while scratching my chin. It didn't make sense. But then again, we had Alisa in our custody. Maybe it was her rescuers.
"Like what?" Artemis asked in a curious tone.
"Like the fact that there were no security cameras on the floor where Grey lived. And also the fact that there are no security cameras on the stairs." I replied to her in a low tone. I was noticing her moves. She was actually sniffing the air. No one else noticed it because I was her personal trainer.
Artemis growled lowly under her chest. She walked back towards the same spot where I found her when I stepped into the apartment. "I didn't even know anything about the stairs at all." Daniel spoke in an annoyed tone.
I turned my gaze towards Daniel. He was touching every single droplet of blood he could find in the apartment and was tasting them so he could tell if there was anyone else in the apartment. "That's because it's something only I knew. Grey hated elevators. According to him, they take too long." I added in a low tone. There were a few family secrets that only Grey and I knew. We never even told Emma those secrets.
"That's it! I caught a scent leading out of the apartment." Artemis suddenly yelled and all heads turned in her direction.
Dean was wiggling his tail proudly as he also heard Artemis' claims. "It's almost impossible!" Daniel and Ryan spoke in union. They both were staring at Artemis with surprised looks on their faces.
I walked towards Artemis and grabbed her hand. "There is nothing wrong with trying. We should do everything to find him. Ryan and Daniel, you both check this apartment. Try to find anything the abductors might have taken along with Uncle Grey. Or if they left anything behind." I replied to them in a low tone. Then I ordered Daniel and Ryan to check the apartment again.
Both Daniel and Ryan were good at searching for missing pieces. I knew they would be the best for the job. "Yes, Alpha!" They both replied in union.
I turned my head towards Artemis. "Artemis! You and I will be following this scent trail you found. Let's hurry up and get going." I ordered Artemis. A smile appeared on her face and she quickly nodded her head.
"Also, Daniel! Inform everyone to meet in the meeting hall in fifteen minutes. It's an emergency meeting." I ordered Daniel to arrange an emergency meeting. Everyone needed to know if Grey was actually missing.
"Sure! I will take care of it. Don't worry." Daniel replied calmly. Ryan and Daniel got to work.
"Let's go, Artemis." I spoke in a low tone as I pulled Artemis out of the apartment. She stepped out and started following the scent. The path she was walking on, I never thought I would be following it again.
It was something I vaguely remember from my childhood. Something that was never discussed again. "Artemis! Where are you going?" I asked Artemis as she pulled me into the underground tunnels under the city. A secret passage that only my father knew about.
"That fading scent I sensed inside Uncle Grey's apartment. It is leading me towards these old tunnels." Artemis replied to me in a low tone while staring at my face.
A grim look appeared on my face as I heard her. It was near to impossible for anyone to know about those tunnels. "That's impossible! It can't be." I whispered softly out of horror.
Artemis walked towards me. She cupped my face with one of her hands. "What do you mean? Is there something wrong, Eli?" Artemis asked me in a low tone. She was confused because of my behaviour.
I closed my eyes and shook my head. I just couldn't believe what she was trying to tell me. "What you are saying is impossible. There is no way it's true." I replied to Artemis in a fearful tone. The fact that someone else knew about those tunnels while I was in the dark, I just couldn't accept that fact.
Even Grey was not aware of those tunnels. I found out about them when I was a child. And that too because of my mischief. My father never told me anything about the tunnels. "I am just following my abilities. You know, my senses are sharper and stronger than all the other pack members." Artemis spoke in a low tone with an awkward smile on her face.
I knew that face she was making. She was sad because I didn't believe her. "You shouldn't question Artemis, Elijah. She has no idea." Dean reminded me of something I was actually forgetting. Artemis came into the pack hardly eight months ago.
"But what she is saying is impossible." I tried to argue with Dean.
"Maybe it's not. Whenever we didn't trust her, someone got hurt. And most of the time, it was her. Do you really want her to get hurt? Right after you promised to never leave her alone." Dean reminded me of what happened to her every single time we refused to believe her.
"I don't want it to happen to her again. It was horrible." I replied to him in a low tone. I never wanted her to get hurt because of me ever again.
"Then let her follow her instinct. She is better at this. Better than any of us. Even better than Noah." Dean calmly asked me to follow her lead. I was not sure if it was the right thing to do. Because it felt wrong.
"Yeah! I think you are right. I should have some faith in her." I replied to Dean as I remembered that Artemis was also right about Alisa. I was the one who didn't listen.
"Eli! What's wrong? Why are you not answering me?" Artemis asked me again in a shaky voice. As if she was about to start crying..
I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her tightly. "I am sorry, baby girl. I was chatting with Dean. You are right. I forgot for a minute that you are better than anyone in this pack. Let's follow that fucking scent." I replied to her in a calm tone. Artemis giggled as she pulled away from me.
"Okay! It's this way." Artemis spoke in a low tone as she pointed towards the north. I nodded my head at her. Artemis started running in the northern direction of the tunnels. While I followed her behind without asking anything at all.
