CHAPTER 94

THIRD PERSON'S POV:-

Artemis had a frown on her face. She was waiting for Emma to reply to the question Artemis had asked Emma. Emma was staring at Artemis' face with a pout on her face. "I couldn't leave you here alone. I couldn't help myself." Emma finally replied to Artemis in a low tone. It sounded more like a helpless tone. As if she couldn't help herself but come to back Artemis up.

A surprised look appeared on Artemis' face. She was not expecting to hear that from Emma. Everyone including Artemis knew how bitchy and mean Emma had been towards Artemis since day one. After all, it was Emma who tortured Artemis on the very next day when Elijah accepted Artemis in the pack. Artemis gritted her teeth as Emma's words were echoing in her mind. "I am not here to kill your mother." Artemis growled at Emma out of annoyance as she turned around.

Her eyes were back on the abandoned mall. She didn't want to make any mistakes. One mistake of Artemis could cost Grey his life. Artemis knew it well. Emma narrowed her head as she heard Artemis. It was not her fault. Emma knew Artemis was not to blame for her behaviour towards Emma. It was Emma's fault to begin with. Emma had ignited those flames in the first place.

Hearing Artemis, Emma couldn't help but feel a little hurt. She was trying to be nice. But she knew it was going to take long. Emma had tried to kill Artemis once on her own and the second time, Artemis almost got killed. Moreover, she was abused. "And that's not the reason why I am here." Emma added in a low tone.

Emma leaned with the railing of the boundary of the roof. She also got her eyes at the entrance of the abandoned mall. Artemis turned her eyes towards Emma. "Then why are you here? What's the meaning of this?" Artemis asked Emma angrily. She couldn't help but think if Emma was keeping her eyes on Artemis. After all, she knew Emma didn't trust Artemis.

Even after being accepted to the pack, Emma had been mean to Artemis. Artemis tried to be nice to Emma. But then again, you can't keep pulling a rope when your partner is not even giving you a chance. "I am here because I don't want you to get hurt. Last time you were alone, you got hurt." Emma finally told Artemis the reason why she had to come to help Artemis. Why Emma didn't want to leave Artemis alone.

Artemis' eyes almost popped out of their sockets as she heard Emma. That bitchy Emma that Artemis had known since day one, was starting to melt. That cold heart Emma was changing. "Wow! The cold hearted bitch is starting to soften up. Please remind her, she was the actual reason why we got hurt. Not because we were alone." Tracy growled angrily as she heard Emma. She didn't speak out loud. But she wanted Artemis to convey that message to Emma.

"Shut up, Trac!" Artemis growled at Tracy. It didn't matter if Emma was mean towards them since day one. Artemis had a responsibility according to what Tracy had told her. And being nice to everyone was part of what was expected of Artemis.

Moreover, Artemis didn't want Elijah to ever be disappointed at Artemis. She was supposed to be Luna of the pack. The one who was supposed to help Elijah manage everything in the pack. That's why she knew she had to keep her cool in front of Emma as well. It didn't matter if Elijah was listening or not. Artemis knew she was no longer a child. "Emma! I am alone here so I wouldn't get hurt. That's the only reason why Eli chose me to be on this task. You can leave it to me. I will be fine." Artemis spoke in a gentle tone.

A surprised look appeared on Emma's face as she heard Artemis. Firstly, she was not expecting that gentle tone from Artemis after everything that Emma did to Artemis. Secondly, Emma was more surprised by how bravely and confidently Artemis responded to Emma. The confidence in her eyes was something Emma had never seen in any other wolves. "But you are alone." Emma tried to argue but Artemis knew Emma was not supposed to be there.

Elijah had asked Emma to search Elijah's apartment building for any signs of intruders at the alpha's home. Yet, Emma decided to be somewhere she was not supposed to be. "Yeah! He sent me alone because he knew if I just have to save my own ass, I'll be fine. You have to be doing the job you were given." Artemis repeated herself again. She tried her best to politely decline the offer Emma was silently making.

Emma's face fell again. She was hoping to get to work with Artemis. She wanted to know Artemis better. She wanted to be there for her. Emma felt like she owed Artemis for saving her life. "I got hurt because I was with someone and that someone had to rely upon me to get away. That's why Eli gave me this task so I will be able to run whenever things get ugly." Artemis added further to explain why it was necessary for Artemis to be alone while she was watching the enemy.

"Oh! I didn't know about it. I thought you were alone and you would get hurt." Emma spoke in a surprised tone. She never thought that the reason why Artemis got hurt was because she was paired with someone to be there as her back up.

Emma's face had a disappointed look on it. Artemis placed her hand on Emma's shoulder. "I will be fine on my own. You have to go and get to the task you were given. It's important if you really want to find Uncle Grey." Artemis politely asked Emma to get to the task she was given.

Emma knew that her task was special too. Artemis followed that unknown scent to Elijah's apartment building. That meant, someone could have gotten caught in the security footage. If only Emma got to the task she was given. "So! I should go! Like, you really don't need me." Emma asked Artemis again. Just to make sure Artemis was safe.

A smile appeared on Artemis' face. It was the first time Artemis was smiling in front of Emma. "Yeah! I am alright. You should go." Artemis answered Emma calmly.

"Alright! I am going. But if you need help, just howl. I will be here." Emma turned around while speaking to Artemis.

Tracy was angry at Emma for trying to be nice after everything she had done. Artemis was keeping her in control. Artemis knew that Tracy could be so childish sometimes. "We don't need you, dumb ass. Elijah has his eyes on us. If only you could know." Tracy growled angrily but Artemis was able not to let Tracy's voice be heard.

"Shut the fuck up, Tracy. You can be an actual pain in the ass sometimes." Artemis growled at Tracy to shut her up.

"Sure, I will howl if I need your help." Artemis replied to Emma in a gentle tone. The big smile on Artemis' face reassured Emma that Artemis was fine.

Emma nodded at Artemis then she walked away. Artemis turned her gaze back towards the entrance of the abandoned mall. "What was all that about? I thought you hate her for everything she made us both go through." Tracy growled at Artemis angrily.

Artemis sighed as she heard Tracy. It was not like Tracy's anger was not right. She was right in her place as well. But Artemis was actually doing what she learned from Tracy. "I stopped hating people a long time ago. Secondly, I can't hold the past against her. Besides, Eli is the only one we need." Artemis was honest with Tracy. There was nothing that both Tracy or Artemis would have wanted more. They were happy with whatever they had.

That one person who became the gravity for Artemis' life. For the first time in her life, she had someone who could listen to all of her nonsense without judging her. Elijah would sit with Artemis and listen to her. He wouldn't pass comments. He wouldn't even laugh at her. Instead, he was the only friend she has ever had who got involved with her in conversations. She was not the only one talking. He would listen to her nonsense and would tell her nonsense. Maybe that's why they both got along so well.

Hearing Artemis, Tracy started wiggling her tail happily. "I can agree with you right there." Tracy replied to Artemis, knowing well that Artemis was right.

"I wonder what she's doing inside? I really want to know. You know, you can flash those assholes and they will let us in. It works every single time." Tracy spoke in a low tone as they didn't see any movements for a while.

"The fuck I am ever doing anything like that in my life. I am nor a slut." Artemis growled at Tracy angrily as she heard her way to get into that abandoned mall.

"You think, only sluts do that. It's practically a free ticket to anywhere." Tracy growled back at Artemis.

"Yeah! Except for, that surely looks like a mafia hide out. We are not going to a movie or a club. Mafia people can be dangerous." Artemis tried to remind Tracy that they were not talking about entering a movie theatre without a ticket. They were keeping eyes on two giant guards who were guarding the entrance of the abandoned mall.

"So! There is no way you are doing anything like that?" Tracy asked again and Artemis growled.

"No! What the hell is wrong with you, Tracy? I am never embarrassing myself for anything like that. What made you think I would ever do anything like that?" Artemis asked Tracy angrily as she was done with Tracy's stupid ideas.
