CHAPTER SEVENTY-ONE

Despite all the good treatment that Bella was receiving from both Alpha D'argan and Luna Elvira, she was still terrified of the entire situation to the extent that she had developed a high fever. When the doctor checked on her, he noticed her fever and prescribed her some medicine. Alpha D'argan did not know about her fever, only Luna Elvira and she had instructed the doctor not to let her husband know.

Meanwhile, Alpha D'argan who had no idea what was going on, was seated on one of the couches in the living room and patiently waiting for Calum, the wizard to show up so they could proceed with whatever they needed to do to reverse the curse.

He had been nice to Bella, not because he wanted to, but because he wanted to gain her trust and prevent her from trying to escape. He didn't care about her or the child she was carrying, all he cared about was how to stop his impending doom and he was determined to stop it, even if it meant killing his only daughter and unborn grandchild.

"You will do no such thing." Calum reprimanded from the door. Alpha D'argan swiftly shifted his gaze from the blank wall he was staring at to the door and watched the wizard make his graceful entrance, his eyes not leaving his.

"And will you stop reading my mind?" Alpha D'argan asked, irritated.

"I don't read your mind. Your thoughts are always all over the place, they are hard to ignore." He explained but Alpha D'argan, who had no idea what he was talking about, sighed heavily and began rubbing his forehead with his fingers.

"I was told you have the girl." Calum changed the topic. Alpha D'argan instantly snapped his head up to look at him with a faint smile plastered on his lips.

"Yes, I got her. It was easier than I had imagined. She's terrified and disgruntled at the same time, but that's none of my business, I'm going to get what I want out of her whether she likes it or not!" He firmly asserts and Calum nods his head.

He had not taken a seat yet, he was standing at the centre of the vast living room, looking around as if he expected to see Bella hanging around somewhere like some furniture or portrait. When he was done ogling around, he strengthened the grip on the staff in his hand and turned to face the tyrant king once more.

"So, where is she?" He asked in a quiet tone.

  "Upstairs, in her bedroom."

"Bedroom?" Calum asked aghast. Given Alpha D'argan's reputation, he had expected him to have her locked up in one of the dungeon cells. Hearing him say she was in a bedroom shook his soul.

"Yeah, bedroom. I didn't want to scare her any further, so I made her a bedroom." He explained looking up at Calum who was staring down at him as if he had something on his face. "Don't look at me like that! I mean… it doesn't mean anything. I only did that because I want her to be comfortable and not have any ideas about escaping. Nothing else!" He assured Calum who just nodded his head and looked away quietly.

"Of course, nothing else." He repeated with a nod.

Alpha D'argan could sense the doubt in his words, but he decided to ignore it.

"Can we get over this right now? I'm dying to have this curse broken." He asked impatiently.

"Yes, of course. Send a guard to bring her down."

Immediately, Alpha D'argan mindlinked his Beta to go upstairs and bring Bella down. Once he got confirmation from him, he blocked the mindlink and smiled. Just a few moments from then, the curse will be broken and he would not have to worry about the Wall Street Pack anymore.

He peeled off his butt from the couch he was sitting on and took slow steady steps around the living room with a smile plastered on his face.

Just a few minutes. He thought.

In less than no time, they heard footsteps descending the staircase. Alpha D'argan's smile broadened as he looked up, but that smile faded when he saw Bella in the Beta's arms. He watched in silence as the Beta carefully descended the staircase and stood before him and Calum with Bella snuggled up in his arms, looking very weak.

"What's happening with her?" He asked hesitantly as he approached the Beta.

"She has a high fever. Her body is burning" The announcement sent chills down Alpha D'argan's spine. He carefully stretched his hands forward to touch Bella's forehead and flinched when he felt her temperature.

  She was burning!

"I thought the doctor had her checked up."

"She's pregnant D'argan. These fevers come and go during pregnancy." Calum explained. Alpha D'argan shot Bella one more look and she just kept staring at him weakly.

She knew he had summoned her to get on with his plan of killing her and her unborn child. She was devastated, but was too weak to fight back.

"Put her to sit on one of the couches." He instructed the Beta who did as he was told.

Once on the couch, Bella wrapped herself up and looked away from the men. Calum went over to her and stooped down by her side on the couch.

"How are you feeling?" He asked, but Bella did not look at him or respond. She kept boring holes into the couch with her gaze.

"She's seriously sick." Calum announced as he turned to look at Alpha D'argan. "We cannot use her blood when she's in this condition, it's going to do you more harm that good." He announced and Alpha D'argan's head dropped in dismay. Calum rose on his feet and looked at the Alpha.

"You have to drink your blood inorder for the curse to be broken, but right now, she's unwell and her blood is not healthy either. If you have even a taste of it, it can make things worse. So you have to wait for her to get well before we can proceed." He further explained and he could feel the Alpha's rage grow wild within him.

Alpha D'argan clenched his fists and shot Bella an angry look.

He wanted to kill her. He wanted to end her life so he wouldn't have to see her ever again, but he knew better than to do that.

"Summon all the pack doctors, tell them I said I want Bella strong and healthy before dawn else, I will have them all decapitated before their wives and children. Tell them that!" He ordered with yell and bolted out of the living room. Just when things were about to get better for him, Bella had to fall sick.

He was so angry that he wished he could just kill her himself.
