"Mummy, daddy, did aunt Diana leave already?" Little Alex asked, breaking the silence in the living room. Ever since Diana left, neither Achilles nor Bella had uttered a word to each other. They were both still terrified by the things that were going on in the pack.
Achilles knew something was going to go wrong along the way, but he didn't know it was going to be that bad. Children dying and women having miscarriages was the last on his mind. Everything was going back to square one!
"Daddy!" Alex's voice came through again, snapping his parents out of their deep thoughts.
"Yes baby." Bella responded as she took the young guy into her arms. Alex made himself comfortable on his mother's laps and looked from her to his father, wondering why they weren't answering his question.
"Mum, dad, did you two fight with aunt Diana?" He asked and that got his parents attention.
"No sweetheart, of course not!" Achilles denied firmly.
"Then why did she leave all of a sudden. I was hoping she would stay the night.
"Well, your aunt Diana had to return home in a hurry because she had some things to do there." Bella lied.
"I don't believe you." Alex said, shaking his head. He could feel the tension in the living room and he could tell that everything was not alright as his parents wanted them to be.
"Alex, your mum and I need to discuss something important. Can you go to your bedroom and wait for me? I promise to read your favorite bedtime story today."
"You are gonna read it four times." Alex bargained.
"Four times!" Achilles lamented.
"or I'm not leaving!" Young Alex insisted as he crossed his arms over his chest and huffed.
"Fine, fine. Four times it is. Now get off my wife and go to your bedroom." He urged and the little guy jumped down from his mother's hold and rushed up the staircase, heading straight to his bedroom.
"That was fast." Bella remarked with an amused look.
"He loves bribes like he was a politician." Achilles lamented.
An eerie silence crept into the living room as both Achilles and Bella sat on their various couches and stared at the walls of the house blankly, deep in thought.
"Achilles." Bella finally broke the silence and Achilles looked at her and sighed heavily.
"Yes, love."
"Did you really mean it when you said we would never go back to the pack?" Bella asked calmly and Achilles sighed yet again before nodding his head.
"Yeah. I meant every word."
"You can't mean it, love. They need us."
"They need us now, but when we go to help them out, they will do nothing but betray us!"
"I don't think they will do so now. I mean, they must have learnt their lesson." Bella defended and Achilles gave her a sharp look.
"I don't think this lesson is enough."
"Achilles, don't say that. They are your people. Your people are suffering, doesn't that bother you in any way?"
"Of course it does!" He scolds at the top of his voice with his eyes blazing red and causing Bella to flinch out of fear. Achilles, realizing what he had just done, closed his eyes and let out an exasperated sigh. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to raise my voice at you. I'm sorry." He whispered and Bella just kept looking at him without saying a word.
To her, his reaction was a good sign because it proved that he was worried and if he was worried, then he would definitely change his mind about not going back to the pack to help his people.
"Bella, I know I sound like a selfish man, but I have my reasons for saying all this. Because of their betrayal, we lost Alex. Because of their betrayal, you had a miserable childbirth. The way you had our son was not how I planned it to be. You didn't have to be kidnapped and attended to by unknown doctors. Bella I was plastered on the wall by a sorcerer. I watched you scream in agony as you pushed our baby, but there was nothing I could do. At that moment, I wanted to be by your side, I wanted to shower you with kisses and whisper to you countless times that everything was going to be alright. That was supposed to be a happy memory, but right now, it isn't. That is the most horrendous memory I have and I cannot get rid of it no matter how hard I try. Their betrayal snatched what was supposed to be our best memories away from us and I'm never going to forgive them for that."
"Achilles, I know that and trust me, I feel the same way but right now they need our help. Innocent children are dying. Our niece is bedridden Achilles and our sister just had a miscarriage. We are not doing this for the wall street pack, we are doing this for Diana and Tony." She insisted and Achilles just kept shaking his head in denial.
"Remember Alex's soul is still in the pendant? What if this is a way for us to bring him back to life?" She asked and Achilles gave her an abrupt look. "Yeah." She said, nodding. "Remember you made a promise to Alex about doing all you can to bring him back to life, what if this is what you have to do to unlock the powers that are needed to bring him back to life?" She asked thoughtfully and Achilles tiredly rubbed his forehead with his fingers and shook his head.
"Bella please stop messing with my mind." He pleaded.
Bella quietly rose from her seat and went over to him to sit by his side.
"Love." She called quietly as she snaked her arms around his and gently leaned her head on his left shoulder. "Imagine it was me who had a miscarriage, how would you feel?"
"Bella, please don't go there. No such thing is ever going to happen."
"That's exactly how Tony feels right now. He's devastated. He's your best friend, remember? Do it for him. And also, wouldn't you want us to have another child?" She asked and Achilles looked down at her in awe.
"Huh?"
"Uh-huh. You know I can't conceive here in the human world. If we go back home, we won't only solve the problems back there, but we'll get the chance to have another adorable offspring. Just take a look at Alex, imagine having two of them running around here or a mini me. Doesn't that sound adorable?"
"It sure does."
"Then let's go back home so it can happen."
"Bella, I need time to think this over, please."
"Of course. Take your time." She replied with a bright smile because she was confident that she had won the fight.
Achilles was definitely going to take them back home.
