CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED

"Gamma Carter, report to my office immediately!"

Achilles words echoed in Carter's mind and his knees grew weaker with every step he took.

When he heard that Achilles was back in the pack, he almost died of fear. Fear of the fact that he was going to give him the punishment he deserved for betraying him and the entire pack.

When he made the agreement with Mr. Donovan to betray Achilles and even after they had executed the plan, he felt no guilt and he was ready for whatever punishment that had to come his way. Even when he heard that Achilles had left the pack, he laughed and mocked him. He even called Achilles a coward for leaving his people behind after losing the war so he can escape Alpha D'argan's wrath.

  He felt accomplished.

However, that feeling didn't last long.

The Beta, Tony, who was now in charge did not banish or execute him, instead, he had called him into his office and begged him to continue his role as Beta after having a heart to heart talk with him. It was after that talk and action that Carter started feeling guilty for what he did.

What made him more guilty was how powerful Alpha D'argan had become. Even though he could not penetrate the pack boundary, he did not fail to send soldiers for other packs to invade at night and cause trouble.

Everyday before he went to bed, he prayed to the Moon goddess to forgive him for the grave sin he committed against his Alpha and pack as a whole.

"Tony." He called Tony who was about to turn around and leave. "Tony." He called yet again as he rushed over to him. Tony stood still and waited for Carter to approach him.

  "Yes Carter."

"Does Alpha Achilles really want to see me?" Carter asked.

Tony could see the terror in his eyes and that made him smile.

"You heard him say so yourself."

"What do you think he wants to say to me?" Carter asked, frightened.

"I have no idea, Carter. Why don't you go find out for yourself?"

  "But I…"

"Just go. Don't keep him waiting." He urged and immediately, Carter took on his heels towards the castle.

  ******************************************

When Carter got to Achilles' chambers, it took him almost an hour to walk all the way to his office. The fear in his heart made his legs so heavy that taking a single step forward seemed to be a challenge. He was soulless at that moment and he had many things running on his mind.

His blood was boiling in his veins and that raised his temperature, causing him to sweat and hyperventilate. His entire head and ears were itchy and his stomach felt like there was an engine saw in it, slicing his intestines into pieces.

He had never felt so nervous before. He was just minutes away from fainting!

"When he got to the door, he expected it to be closed so he'd knock and take out some time to breathe in and out as he prepared for Achilles' signal for him to get in, but to his greatest dismay, the door was ajar.

He stood by the side and peeped in to scan the scenario and see if he was walking into his end.

"I can smell you Carter, come in." Achilles' voice sounded from within, causing Carter to tremble on his spot.

He let out a heavy breath before stepping into the office, ready to face his end.

"You may close the door behind you." Achilles instructed and he did that without any hesitation.

As he walked further into the office, he recalled the last conversation he had with Achilles before he left for the human world. It had been in that same office and he had insulted the Alpha a great deal.

That was when he had not yet realized how big of a fool he had been to betray him.

"Good day to you, Alpha Achilles." He greeted as politely as he could with his head bowed down.

Achilles, who was leaning by his office table, looked at him for a while, before letting out a heavy sigh.

The last time they spoke, Carter had told him he chose to betray him because he hated him. Because he hated the fact that people treated him like a god wherever he went and a bunch of other things he could not remember.

  It had been five years.

Those words haunted him for years and he hated Carter for five good years, but a few hours ago, after Tony told him how much of a changed person Carter was, he could feel that hatred subsiding and just like Tony had done, he was willing to give him a second chance.

"Good day to you Carter." Achilles responded to the greeting.

"You said to meet you here."

"Yes…" He affirmed as he stood up straight. "I did."

  "Here I am, Alpha."

Achilles paced around the office, with his gaze not leaving Carter.

"Five years ago, you and I were in this office and you said a lot of things that brought to my awareness the fact that you loathe me. For five good years, those words lingered in my mind and I hated you with passion. When I returned, I asked Tony what punishment he gave to you guys and I was shocked when he told me that he did not punish any of you. I was even more shocked when he told me he had given you a second chance. I almost lost my mind when he made me understand that you have done nothing but serve the pack diligently all these years in my absence. He also made me understand that you very much regret your actions and you are deeply sorry for what you did in the past. Is that true?" Achilles asked and Carter instantly went down on his knees. An action which took Achilles off guard.

"Alpha Achilles, I'm very sorry for what I did and all the things I said. I did that out of greed and I know I do not deserve to live after such betrayal. Please forgive me Alpha. I regret my actions and all I ask of you is you give me a second chance just like Tony gave me. I'm very sorry for all the trouble I caused." Carter pleaded with his head bowed down and Achilles could not believe the drama that was unfolding before him.

He had never in his life seen Carter in a vulnerable state before. Carter was always poised and composed. He never showed even a flicker of emotion no matter what happened.

If he was really begging and shedding tears at the moment, it meant he deeply regretted his actions and was ready to make amends.

"Rise up." He ordered and Carter reluctantly rose to his feet. His gaze still plastered on the floor. He was too scared to look at Achilles.

"You are pardoned Carter. I am giving you a second chance to work as Beta of this pack. Do not disappoint me." Immediately those words left his mouth, Carter rushed towards him and fell on his feet, almost worshipping as he murmured the words "Thank You Alpha" over one billion times.

Achilles just smiled and hoped that he was not making a wrong decision.
