I hear her voice change through the private room door. That soft, urgent tone she only uses when something matters.

'She's taking a call.'

I finish giving Erikson his orders---Gerald's going to learn what happens when you disrespect what's mine. The ice river will teach him better than words ever could.

When I step back into the main hallway, I'm just in time to see Elin slip out the bar's front entrance.

My chest tightens.
