“A party? All of a sudden?”

I sat in Director Caius’s large sitting room, staring at him in disbelief.

He had just told me we were both attending a party. What was I supposed to be here, his girlfriend?

“I detest things like this,” he said flatly, “but I have to be there.”

“Then go with someone else.”
