Lucan’s shout came again from the northern wall, and Elrich and I ran toward him without waiting for the other warriors. My wolf was already close to the surface, reacting to every scent around us.

“What happened?” Elrich demanded as we reached the wall.

Lucan pointed toward the trees. “Something moved beyond the boundary, but our patrol couldn’t see what it was.”
